I think there are a few sound-hardware geeks in here. Can someone advise me on a decent set of bluetooth headphones, that don't cost too much? I don't want the cheapest, I've got that already, from the dollar store. :giggle: But something that has good sound quality, clarity, reasonable bass, that I can reasonably afford, if not all at once, then with just a month or so saving up. I've found it difficult to get used to earbuds, I really prefer well-cushioned, adjustable "cans," but since I have to wear reading glasses all the time, cans don't really work for me anymore, and I've had to get accustomed to wads of plastic in my ears.

My laptop does bluetooth so I am wondering if I can make them work with teamspeak or ventrillo.

As someone who used those programs frequently in my WoW/BF2 days I don't see why they wouldn't. As long as the PC recognizes them as an input/output the program should be able to be configured to use them.

I ordered a skullcandy Uproar off of Ebay for $29. When it shows up will give it a try. Might have to tweak it a bit with linux or it might be plug and play.

Thanks. :)

Won't be long now desk is actually in transit now hoping it maybe here by Friday. :)

What happened to your desk?

As for headphones... I've looked at a couple pairs online now, found a couple from skullcandy that I could reasonably afford... but doesn't anyone list the frequency response? That's the spec I always look at when I buy speakers, and even these cheapies from the dollar store list the freq. response as 20Hz-20,000kHz... Why do none of the nicer ones show the freq. response? On the skullcandy website even, when I clicked "tech specs", it took me to a lot of blah blah blah about how great they are, nothing actually technical. :(

I had my old TV on the wall with my PC below it on the entertainment center all in one central area since I frequently game and use the PC at the same time. Well I got a new 4k TV for myself as a "gift" for the holidays that's larger and the space the PC was in got ate up by the extra TV. So the computer has sat disassembled since then since I didn't have a good space to hook it back up in the bedroom. Now that the sting has worn off from the new TV I was able to order a computer cart that will work great in the bedroom since it's on rollers that I can move it over near the bed while I'm gaming and reconstruct my temple of lazy. :giggle::giggle:

Very cool! All kinds of new toys! :)

I don't think I grok what that "4k" really means. We got a HD "smart TV" back in June, but I really have no idea if it's "4k" or not... I suspect not, since we got such a good deal on it; just like with vaping, PCs, etc, when new tech comes out, the older tech gets cheaper. :D

I've found a couple of earbud sets at bestbuy that do list the freq. response, and 20Hz-20,000kHz seems to be the standard, at least for the inexpensive ones; I haven't bothered checking the pricey ones, since I can't really afford those, and I'm not sure it would really be worth it, since I don't think the bluetooth sound quality from my new phone will be anything to write home about; when I was checking out all the features and reviews for this phone, I saw more gripes about the sound quality than probably anything else about it.

I'm thinking I might try a set with that "sport hook" thing, that makes the bud fit better inside the outer cavity of the ear; one of my main gripes with earbuds is how they wobble around in your ear canal, but with that rubber hook holding it in place in the outer cavity, surely it would be more stable. I really wish I could go with some of the "on ear" kind, but with my glasses permanently affixed to my face, anything that presses the glasses' ear pieces harder against the bone behind my ear becomes very uncomfortable, very fast.

It was a sneak attack of a stampeding herd of white Angus sheep that growled as I come down our hill from putting laundry on at father-in-law's. My little black fluffy son had to run to his barn meowing fiercely. Then, I tripped over some crufty python script what ate my pascal program which interfaced with the Lisp program for global dominion. *sighs* Next time I'll write it all in bare metal assembly, that'll fool those hot -n- tots!

Sheep... growling??? Are you sure they were really sheep, and not aliens disguised as sheep?

Best Buy had the last gen Powerbeats for 129, they are wonderful if you have glasses and work great for talking and rocking out, very comfortable and the over ear loop you can barely tell they are on. Not sure if they are what you are looking for but I use these things for everything, mowing, working, running, just hanging out etc:)

And hello fugees, sorry I was late to the game and joined VU before I found the other site:)

I'm still awaiting one of my xmas gifts, though it won't get here till sometime next week -- on eBay, for $1, we found Android Application Development All-in-One For Dummies -- shipping was $3,99, 4 times the cost of the book itself. :D I figured it will give me an overview of Android development, possibly inform me as to other resources I may need.

Well since I abandoned web template development for vape-forum'ing, I need something new. Vaping isn't a new novel thing anymore, it's just the thing I do instead of smoke; I really need something to engage my mind. Nobody cares about PCs anymore, they take their computer wherever they go, so it seems the right way to aim.

"Nobody cares about ..." & "He could not hit an elephant shooting from there ...", "Here, hold my beer and watch this ...", all seem infamous last words in my experience at least. :) That noted, I understand and agree with what you are saying in regards to the Android market, realm being quite popular at present. I also understand and need something new to engage this mind. :)

Find it is a bit comical to witness people only now beginning to see and comprehend what I saw and knew about twenty years ago or more. Billy Idol needs to make another album, I think. He was twenty years ahead in the 1980's and got another twenty ahead with the Devil's Playground album. It is nice to have fresh music at least. :)

Attempting to avoid an urge to learn programming with COBOL and/or Pascal. My boyfriend had suggested COBOL to me a while back. It is highly structured, orderly, systematic. Rather not be a systems engineer, systems administrator. If I took up the COBOL, the structure would lend toward focusing me upon that path, directly. It would be a simple natural progression and second nature happening for me.

Got a sentence locked in my mind too, akin to getting an ear worm from songs. The sentence was repeated at the end of an article regarding sex robots. "Perhaps, some might think, that's a good thing." To me it reads as a double positive and voids itself out. I change it to, "Probably, some probably think, that's a good thing." Well, to me that is expressing there is a probability of probability, which is a double positive not to mention drolly redundant. I think it would be better writing, "Some might think that's a good thing." That expresses probability, merely that there exists probability incurred by some. It avoids being double positive and redundancy. :)

Totally agreed about the correct and elegant writing style -- writing well seems to be mostly a lost art. One that drives me completely batshit is the "He tried as best as he could." That 2nd "as" is completely unnecessary, and WRONG -- it should be "...as best he could." Robin Cook makes that error CONSTANTLY, so I had finally had to stop reading his damn books, which are all just cookie-cutter versions of every book he's written before in any case. I never could read more than 1 Mary Higgins Clark for the latter reason -- her books are apparently written to a template, just change the names and locations, and bam, new book. I stopped reading James Patterson when his books got like that.

I also get extremely annoyed when I see the word "discrete" when they really mean "discreet," but that's English for you, all the damn homonyms, and that's modern literacy for you, which is disappearing VERY rapidly, leaving people too damn lazy to look up which homonym they actually MEAN. Computer spell-checkers are marvelous things, but they can't figure out which one you mean, from context.

My father programmed in COBOL, back in the mainframe days, and when it was ported to PCs, he did a bit then, too. I think it was his favorite.

I've never been very good at actual programming, but I got very good at the coding necessary for HTML/CSS, even when bits of php began peeking in, so maybe it's time I stopped saying "I can't" and tried to exercise my brain a little.

Yes, recall my boyfriend telling me COBOL was used on mainframes. He said it is also a language used a lot in big business, finance application. On first looking at the methodology of writing a COBOL program the established structuring, oh my, is splendor. :) Of course, it would be because Rear Admiral Grace Hopper (U.S. Navy, retired) helped to create a sharp programming language.

Interesting note on HTML, it is a subset of the standardized document processing language dubbed SGML (Standardized General Markup Language). Fascinating seeing how a means of universally displaying textual information can translate itself into a means of becoming a functional programing language that might be used as its own application. :) I used to write ASCII macro viruses, oops, which could function with only needing being buffered, poodle bombs indeeed. *chuckles* Lost art in its own right, that.

Well, best to not bore everyone to tears, ... self inclusive. It has been one of those days, today. Might need to get out of my head and go enjoy some fun with my pack. :)

Back in the early 90s when I was heavily involved in DOS-based BBSs, I used to read several diff PC magazines regularly -- PC Magazine being my favorite. I remember reading an article about this new Hypertext Markup Language which would allow "links" in text, which could be triggered with a mouse -- I was deliriously happy to read that, as everything up to then was pretty much all text all the time -- except for Apple stuff. It didn't even make mention of GUIs, because as I said, "all text all the time," and the www had not yet been invented. Some 25 yrs ago? I finally got on the internet in '99, and was bug eyed at it, there was just SO MUCH of it... and that was nearly 20 yrs ago!

I take your earlier point about smart phones being the "coming thing," but I had no real way of knowing that since I didn't have any sort of mobile phone until May of this year -- I never go anywhere, what did I need a mobile phone for? :giggle: But as I've pointed out, though I truly hate phones and phone calls, I can forgive mine for being a phone, because it's also a computer. :D
