Interesting idea. Just be careful to make sure it doesn't "wick" further down the ribbon that you intend it to.
I've heard of people vaping wax, but I don't think that this is what they're referring to... :p :D
I used a Shot Glass and Melted some Candle Wax and dipped it while holding it vertically, I dont think it would rise more hten a half inch but ig your juice smells like Green Cinnamon Apple or what ever wax you use you may not have clipped it far enough :D Who knows...some juices could benefit from it :p

Although I love doing coil porn and various intricate builds (just haven't had time to do any lately), sometimes simplicity is the key. This is a simple fused Clapton build I made in the Velocity for the Noisy Cricket. This thing hits like a fucking powerhouse.

2x30SS316L/42KA1, 11/12 wraps, 3.0mm ID, 0.58Ω

View attachment 52297

Ive tried tons of different coil variations, from simple single wire buids, to aliens, cat tracks, hives, staples, etc, etc, and the fused clapton has always been my favorite. The other ones are cool to look at, and super pretty and brag worthy, but the dual core clapton imo has the best functionality (and its staggered variation is even better with all the little gaps in it).

The fused Claptons used to be my "go to" coils, but now I prefer aliens, hands down. The wicking abilities of aliens bring out nuances in your juice that just can't be had otherwise. But my TC aliens in the Petri need cleaning, so I figured I'd throw something together real quick for my neglected Noisy Cricket. Also, I really have to disagree that the staggered version is better - it's nothing more than a simple parallel Clapton coil with some wire around it. It completely lacks the wicking capabilities of the standard fused Clapton

I feel the same as Chef a nice 2x28g/38g or 40g Fused Clapton (7 wraps/3mm ID) is perfect for me on Series Mods but I like Aliens and Alien Framed Staples the best for Unregulated/Regulated Boxes...

Youve got to try a 5/6 Core staggered Chef...its actually decent to vape on and it wicks well, if your only using 2/3 cores its not much of a improvement over a Parallel build..

Well I tried making fused clapton 1/8 ID 28k/30k. I think they came out alright but the ramp up kinda sucks and the ohms are a little high. I think it was .4 ohms.

Edit first time posting a pic I messed something up

when using like a paperclip to keep your core wires from overlapping do you have to stop and keep moving the clip? stopping seems to kill me.

yeah i work in about two inches between the paperclip and the wraps. the key to starting and stopping is to hold your angle and tension the same. if your wraps are going well at your current angle and tension, and you stop without moving them, they will continue to wrap well when you start again (just start slow and work back up to full speed). if you change your angle and tension then you have to find the sweet spot again once you get the drill going and you get little mistakes. with some practice, you can kinda know where to hold your angle and tension and get cleaner starts. i have noticed an improvement in my own technique after half a dozen sets of aliens. just keep trying.

Thanks for the advice guys. I noticed that @raymo2u likes wire from kidney puncher how does that compare to temco?
I havent bought much from Temco themselves but just about every other wire out there is made by them. KP wire is ultra clean, it last a longer duration under use, the spooling is top notch (No catching) and above all its Smelted in Sweden and Milled in the USA....Temco doesnt only make wires for vaping, they manufacture lead and other toxic metals...I dont feel as comfortable buying wire that may be made/milled near or on the same machines, or stored with, or may be unprotected against those metals near things I heat and inhale off from, this is why I buy alot of play wire for pictures and self use but I clean the hell out of it!

As long as you clean your wire/coils then you shouldnt have any issues some people like peace of mind when buying their wire.

I've used Temco before, seemed to be decent quality and don't have any complaints. But like Raymo I prefer Kidney Puncher, the prices there are good, the quality of wire is excellent, made in the US, no cheap Chinese crap. I don't trust any wire out of China, you never know what you're actually getting, it could have shit loads of lead or other toxic crap in the metal itself, coated on it or what ever. The Q/A just isn't there from anything coming from China. I've had wire from UD that leaves a nasty black film on my hands. KP wire is super clean, annealed, good price and we know where it comes from.

25 PLY Naked Staple (4 Wraps/3.5mm ID @.1 Ohms)
I just want anyone that wants to try a Naked Staple or framed Staple...Its a very long process, especially with a half dull blade. It took me almost 2 hours to completely remove the wrap...

Its very smooth, it ramps up at 100w almost instantly and the glow covers just about the complete coil....I wish I made it a Double Barrel to cover more ground but its a decent vape already. Its pretty warm on a Parallel Box I think it was worth it but it would of been better with a brand new Exact-O blade...

Sounds sweet! Now you'll know for next time, but even with a sharp X-acto it'll still probably test your patience lol. Good work though, just thinking about sitting there cutting wire off a coil is making my head hurt, I do not have patience for tedium like that hahaha

With a Exact-O knife I would try and cut straight down...and if it was sharp enough that should of broke the wrap but thats not what happened for me. I had to go under the wrap with the tip, turn the blad pointing up from underneath and pull up until a few strands broke and repeat...inside and underneath SUCKED since I had to cut from inside the wrap and to the sides without messing anything up, once you bend a strand of Ribbon it stays bent and frayed..
Next time I make a set I will use 14 or 15 PLY and then it will be a nice Dual Coil setup for a Box...it is a great vape!

That's what I figured you had to do. I'd probably end up doing that anyways, because knowing my luck, I'd cut through the wrap and into the ribbon trying to cut it the other way lol. I'mma maybe need a pair of these on my next order hahaha :p

A lotta guys polish the wraps off with a drill and sandpaper, might be easier. Looks great though man!

A very smooth vape is what i also found and even though you don't have the outer wrap the clapton to spit juice fireworks anymore its Vvery flavourful, i thought it was worth the effort but not only did i make mine different i took the outer wrap off differently.

mine is made with a frame, when i wrapped my clapton i didn't wrap it it snug i purposely left gaps so it wouldn't take so long to unwrap, i installed it into the rda to get the bends etc where i wanted them, then i uninstalled the coil and made one cut in the clapton wrap somewhere in the middle and unwrapped the clapton from the coil.

Hey raymo2u are you uninstalling your wrap while the coil is installed?

I expect a naked corrugated coil has already been done?

Yes I removed the wrap while it was installed....I didnt want it falling out of shape or form.

There are many Naked Corrugated builds...I was going to try a few Ive seen but IDK if I will anytime soon...

If I have this coil started and I decide to put 26n80 frames on it... how will that effect the ohms? Not sure how to do that on steam engine.

Add the two frames to the core option. It will drop your resistance significantly tho. What will the overall build be?

Haha, duh. Not sure why I wasn't thinking of that. Thanks! This is going into my griffin on my g2. So it really doesn't matter the ohms. Just was thinking about it.

I hear you. I was the same way with my lavabox. Love that thing but still had to grab a g2. Now I'm debating between a hohm slice and the new hcigar dna75 vt75. Wanting to pick one more mod up before Aug 2.

Haven't been up to building the last 4-5 days as the whole family got Norovirus. Not fun. Started to feel human again today and built another diy light box. About 1 foot cubed this time and used tracing paper for the transparent sides instead of frosted plastic like I did on the last one. To test it out I reinstalled the fused reef I did a few weeks ago and ran the iOS focus stacking app I got too. Still learning the limits of the app with my clip on macro lens. Probably can do better moving forward.

So I made some progress with the focus stacking today. All of these photos are 9 images stacked except one which is 3 images (the cross over where both lines are colored). The 9 stacks are a bit grainy though so I will dial it back to 6 stacked next build.

Fused clapton (40g N80 over 2x 26g ss316l) paralleled with twisted 26g ss316l. 2.4mm ID, 0.19 ohms.

Alien wrapped staple wire.
With added floor dust.
BTZXo1Ym.jpg

Not sure how it will wrap without frames, so I will leave that bit for now :giggle: just didn't want frames but did want the other bits. Might blow up on the coil jig doe
Floor dust is optional - unless you dump the decore in a pile of it.

I Call it a Double Decker Half Staggered Staple Staggerton ...I have no clue what its called...you can see places where the 44g is screwed up from the Cage wire I tried using moved it around and almost destroyed the build....I wish I took pics before trying to Cage it....it was a flawless build before it.

image.jpeg Revisited the cat track today, it's been a long time!
Went with 3x 26g & 32g all n80 just to see how it compared to the aliens of same spec that I have been running for a while now & I have to say it tastes better, might be due to being a fresh build, who knows!
They reflect some nice purples and look shiny in the flesh
