Been trying to convince my cousin and her husband to try vaping, as they keep complaining about how much they're spending on smokes. Some of the comments I've received from them and others thus far:

"Vape causes popcorn lung and that is incurable I believe" ... "there is documented cases of it"

" the ionizing of the water going your lungs from the vap is dangerous.. what happens when fluid gets in your lungs? pneumonia!"

Vaping? Might and maybe. Cigs? WILL.

I'll take my chances. If I'm going to die from inhaling something, it might as well be something that tastes like lucky charms, allows me to feel, taste, smell (both the detection of scent and the scent detected by others), and fuck better.

    My $0.02.

Ask them for indisputable proof of the 'documented cases'.
I have yet to find a nay-sayer continue to argue after asking for proof.

Ask them how much water vaper goes in their lungs when taking a shower.

If they've ever gotten sick or kids have and used a vicks vaporizer then they already have vaped before...and probably there kids also...Tell them to do some real research and not read online news...find credible evidence that supports their arguments or its hearsay at best and they are just being ignorant.

Crazy part is a cigg has 100-1000 times more diacetyl then a vape does...but ever seen a documented case of popcorn lung in a smoker? There are only a handful of cases worldwide of popcorn lung and they all were in popcorn flavor factories for a decade+ working 8+ hours a day inhaling that specific flavoring..

Your chance of dying from popcorn lung is much much lower than your chance of getting hit by lightning.

I have found only 9 confirmed cases of Popcorn Lung.
8 who worked in a popcorn factory and on who ate microwave popcorn all day long for many years.

I was outside on a break the other night, at work. Had 2 vapes with me, a kid (20 yr old) comes over and starts talking about his vape... while smoking a cigarette. Then he started talking about how good a smoke is, at certain times. THEN he started talking about the FDA, and how he sides with, and believes in them, because they say ecigs are bad. My jaw dropped. I said to him, "You're not serious!"

Him: "Hello, we work in a pharmacy!"
    Me: [IMG]
Him: Well, they'd never approve all the drugs we work with, if they didn't help people.
Me: I stopped and remembered his dad is a Dr, so of course, he'll go along with whatever his dad says, realizing not all Dr's feel the same way about ecigs, that my own doc does, and to not get into a long discussion about how drugs get approved, the good, bad and ugly of it.
Me: So you smoke, because of the FDA? Then I went on about BT and BP and how the FDA wants their own share of everything. Even tried throwing the word Chantix into the mix, and he was not having any part of it.

He shook his head, stood by his belief in the FDA. I told him to go talk to the guy that teaches pharmacy law in some classes that are offered at work. Once you get him going on stuff like that... I have a ball talking with that guy.

Some people refuse to try and understand. When I hear other people express interest in vaping, they usually mention "But, it looks like too much work." Then they start talking about explosions.

All we can do is try. Then there are 2 people there, that I've seen smoking, that now carry only their vape. There's still hope.

    Ahh the real key.
Yes vaping is more "work" than smoking and reguires more planning since you can't just stop in in at any gas n go and get juice, batteries, etc.

Americans are overall a lazy bunch of Humans.
They will even choose a more deadly option because it is easier?

A year or two ago, I went to the hospital for a routine checkup. As I walked in, I passed a nasty old geezer sitting outside, with a hole in his throat, a breathing tube under his nose and - yes, I kid you not - a dirty rolled cigarette hanging out of his mouth. The guy looked at me funny, pointed at my mod and said "Wow, does that thing look gay or what!"

I instantly got really angry, but I managed to hold it in. I stared at him for a few seconds, then I say "Yeah. Enjoy your oxygen bubba..." and I walked away.

    What a stupid dipstick...

Damn, that's rough, not what you said, just how hardcore some are. My smart mouth can get me into trouble occasionally. "How's that hole in your throat treating you?" popped into my mind, What's really sad about it all, he's probably one of the people that says, I'll smoke til I'm dead. Looks like that's working, too. Really sad. I never imagined I'd quit either, though.

Think about this. In the animal kingdom, when an animal is stupider than the norm for its species, it doesn't last long as it'll either be eaten or killed quickly. Humans, on the other hand, are the only species whose stupid not only survive, but can thrive and procreate. What a sobering thought.

It's because of all the damn "progressives," trying to save us from ourselves, which is pointless and stupid, as well as a complete sharp stick in the eye of Darwin. Also because stupid people have lots more children than intelligent people, and the gov't obliges them with welfare and food stamps and medicaid.

We had one child. At one point, we actually considered having a 2nd child, so we could get help from the gov't -- but we decided that was a really stupid reason to bring a child into the world. But stupid people? That's all the reason they need.

My husband and I were heavy smokers. When e-cigs hit the US market hubby bought one. I refused to even try it. My breathing was labored in humid weather so I imagined the horror of inhaling vapor. Hubby never quit smoking and died of lung cancer in 2013. I kept smoking. Last July my sister started on me about vaping and I stubbornly refused until she cornered me with an e-cig and a ton of flavor cartridges. As soon as I smelled one of the flavors I was like, "Give me that thing!" After 44 yrs of smoking I tossed the cigarettes, bought a vape pen and began reading/watching everything I could find about vaping. A few weeks later I was buying mods, tanks and concentrates. On occasion, stupidity is fixable.

No, I always have a retort for them about how much I still feel it's worth it.. I'm just happy they're becoming curious, even if they do think it's too much work. They tease me about have 2 with me, then I talk about how good they taste and remind them of what their cigs tastes like. They still ask questions :)

Disease-causing viruses and bacteria too commit suicide by killing the host. That doesn't prevent them from thriving as long as the host is alive.

By that logic, if you believe the Gaia hypothesis, it means the human virus hasn't killed the Earth yet. But it's well on its way towards doing it. So don't count on the human species being so cleverly resilient as you think in the end...

    Ohh that is a given.
Even without another cataclysmic impact or something humans are far too short sighted to save themselves. Laziness and greed rule the species which leads to self destruction.

But the earth will continue on long after the human infestation is eradicated.

This comes to mind every time I hear someone say "we have to heal the planet"...

    From Michael Crichton,

"You think man can destroy the planet? What intoxicating vanity. Let me tell you about our planet. Earth is four-and-a-half-billion-years-old. There's been life on it for nearly that long, 3.8 billion years. Bacteria first; later the first multicellular life, then the first complex creatures in the sea, on the land. Then finally the great sweeping ages of animals, the amphibians, the dinosaurs, at last the mammals, each one enduring millions on millions of years, great dynasties of creatures rising, flourishing, dying away -- all this against a background of continuous and violent upheaval. Mountain ranges thrust up, eroded away, cometary impacts, volcano eruptions, oceans rising and falling, whole continents moving, an endless, constant, violent change, colliding, buckling to make mountains over millions of years. Earth has survived everything in its time. It will certainly survive us. If all the nuclear weapons in the world went off at once and all the plants, all the animals died and the earth was sizzling hot for a hundred thousand years, life would survive, somewhere: under the soil, frozen in Arctic ice. Sooner or later, when the planet was no longer inhospitable, life would spread again. The evolutionary process would begin again. It might take a few billion years for life to regain its present variety. Of course, it would be very different from what it is now, but the earth would survive our folly, only we would not. If the ozone layer gets thinner, ultraviolet radiation sears the earth, so what? Ultraviolet radiation is good for life. It's powerful energy. It promotes mutation, change. Many forms of life will thrive with more UV radiation. Many others will die out. Do you think this is the first time that's happened? Think about oxygen. Necessary for life now, but oxygen is actually a metabolic poison, a corrosive glass, like fluorine. When oxygen was first produced as a waste product by certain plant cells some three billion years ago, it created a crisis for all other life on earth. Those plants were polluting the environment, exhaling a lethal gas. Earth eventually had an atmosphere incompatible with life. Nevertheless, life on earth took care of itself. In the thinking of the human being a hundred years is a long time. A hundred years ago we didn't have cars, airplanes, computers or vaccines. It was a whole different world, but to the earth, a hundred years is nothing. A million years is nothing. This planet lives and breathes on a much vaster scale. We can't imagine its slow and powerful rhythms, and we haven't got the humility to try. We've been residents here for the blink of an eye. If we're gone tomorrow, the earth will not miss us.”
