What Increases Cancer Risk?

Dr. Russell Blaylock, M.D., writes:

According to the National Cancer Institute, only about 5%-10% of cancers are caused by inherited genetic mutations. In the remaining 90%-95% of cases, genetic mutations develop as a result of exposures to environmental toxins such as tobacco smoke, radiation, and other damaging substances, or due to lifestyle factors — all of which cause inflammation.

Smoking and obesity both increase risk for various types of cancer. Abdominal obesity, in particular, is highly inflammatory.

Special: New Aging Research Reveals Key to Long, Healthy Life

Age is also a factor, because as we get older we become more inflamed and cells are more likely to mutate, becoming cancerous.

In addition, immunity begins to falter as our cellular defense systems — which include detoxification mechanisms and antioxidant systems — start to decline.

Normally, we have a built-in immune surveillance system of special cells that constantly survey our bodies for cells that are damaged and at risk of becoming cancerous. When found, these potentially wayward cells are killed and removed. But as we age, this surveillance system becomes less efficient.

All cells also contain special suicide genes, the function of which is to kill cells that are damaged so badly that they risk becoming cancerous. One example is the p53 gene. Approximately 50% of cancers are found to have mutations of this special gene; this prevents the cells from self-destructing, thus allowing the development of a cancer. Cancers with mutated p53 suicide genes are highly resistant to conventional treatments.

Most people are exposed to a number of cancer-causing agents and environmental risks on a daily basis. These include:

  • Some dietary ingredients
  • Toxic metals
  • Nicotine and tobacco smoke
  • Excess alcohol
  • Unrelieved stress
  • Exposure to pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides
Some medications — such as statins, steroids, and TNF‑alpha inhibitors (a class of drugs used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory diseases) — increase cancer risk by suppressing the immune system.

Dr. Russell Blaylock, M.D., is editor of The Blaylock Wellness Report and a nationally recognized board-certified neurosurgeon, health practitioner, author, and lecturer.

Dear Friend,
If you’re experiencing ongoing stress, you may have what is called burnout. Statistics show that chronic stress is at an all-time high, and burnout is one of the main risks of increasing, constant stress and work-related pressures.
Burnout is the mental and physical exhaustion that people experience from chronic stress. More than just draining your energy, burnout weakens your resilience, can spill into your personal life, and makes everything seem more difficult and stressful — even minor tasks and daily responsibilities.
Burnout can also lead to health complications. Researchers are starting to show just how debilitating burnout can be in every area of a person’s life — from more frequent infections to neurological problems.
Discover what you can do to keep burnout from robbing you of your health and quality of life.

Hello Jimi,

Peptides are still such a new form of therapy that there are a lot of questions that need to be answered, from uses to sourcing to understanding what exactly a peptide even is. Different peptides affecting different cells and functions can be highly tailored and targeted to treat a wide variety of conditions.

In this episode of Gordon Medical Forum, Drs. Eric Gordon and Nafysa Parpia explore how peptides work synergistically and can be used with many other therapies to increase the effectiveness of antibiotics, antiviral and antiparasitic medications, IV nutrient therapies, hormone therapies, detoxification therapies, herbal remedies, and even other peptides.
Episode highlights include:
  • Different peptides affect different cells and therefore have a variety of functions. This allows for highly tailored and targeted treatment plans that address a wide variety of conditions.
  • Peptides work synergistically and can be used with many other therapies to increase the effectiveness of antibiotics, antiviral and antiparasitic medications, IV nutrient therapies, hormone therapies, detoxification therapies, herbal remedies, and even other peptides.

The Connection Between Heavy Metals, Menopause,
and Complex Chronic Illness

Dr. Parpia has observed a significant trend among her patients: the onset of chronic illness in women frequently occurs during peri and post-menopause. Many patients are bewildered by sudden health declines despite maintaining consistent lifestyles.

Join Dr. Parpia for the Over 40 and Fabulous Summit for her talk on the connection between Heavy Metals, Menopause, and Complex Chronic Illness.

In her talk she shares the often-overlooked aspect of bone loss accompanying menopause, which serves as a reservoir for heavy metals accumulated over a lifetime. As these metals are released into the bloodstream, they can trigger latent health conditions. This, coupled with lack of hormones, tick-borne illnesses and mold/mycotoxin exposure, can be contributors to chronic health challenges that surface in midlife.

Uncover The Link Between Mold and Fertility

When mold exposure is chronic, it can be a contributor to complex chronic illness and as well be one of the possible causes of infertility.

Recent research has suggested a potential link between mold exposure and reproductive health issues - something that is not often considered when exploring infertility.

Dr. Parpia will be sharing many details to consider if you think mold exposure has contributed to infertility in her upcoming talk, Uncover The Link Between Mold And Fertility. You can watch this discussion and more for free live during the Beyond “Infertility” Summit from April 16 - 22.

Blood Clotting: Symptoms, Causes and Support Strategies
A blood clot is basically a clump of blood. Instead of the normal, not too thin, not too thick, gel-like liquid state of the blood, it turns into a semi-solid state. Blood clotting is an essential mechanism to stop bleeding and heal cuts or injuries.

However, blood clots can develop inside your veins without an injury. In some cases, blood clots resolve on their own. In other cases, blood clotting can become a serious or life-threatening issue. Fortunately, there are natural support strategies for blood clotting to improve your health.

A student recently asked me a big question: do you need to study botany to be a good herbalist?

Truthfully, this is a question I’ve wondered a lot myself! Although I did 3 semesters worth of botany at Bastyr University, I’ve often asked myself whether or not this actually made me a better herbalist.

Simply put, botany is a scientific approach to plants that focuses on their anatomy, physiology, and classification. Essentially it’s a specific language to describe plants, which is why it can be a challenging area of the plant world to learn because it feels like learning a new language.

But do you really need to put the effort in to learn it?

I think the answer to this question really depends on what aspects of herbal medicine you want to focus on. There are certain aspects of botany that every single herbalist should know.

While there’s no need to become fluent in the language of botany, there are definitely things you should know that will make you a better, well-rounded, and more effective herbalist.

If you’re wondering what these pieces of information are, you can learn about them right here in our new blog post. I hope you enjoy it and learn something new.

Take care,
Sajah

Hey Jimi

It may intimidate you that cancer can come in many shapes and forms, and can be caused by a variety of reasons…

But it also holds true that there are a lot of ways to prevent or even reverse cancer - some of which aren’t as well-known to the public and in the medical world as others.

One of those ways, and a personal favorite of mine, is through the use of what I call "medicinal movements".

These are physical movements that kickstart your immune system and, more importantly, your lymphatic system, which is a crucial part of your body’s overall defense against cancer.

In short, moving your body isn't just good for your fitness; it's also important for dodging chronic diseases and helping your body heal itself.

To further explore the role of exercise in keeping diseases like cancer away, I had a conversation with renowned exercise physiologist Dr. Jason Conviser where we discussed why being active is so vital and how it supports your body's healing powers.

And here’s a short but valuable preview of that conversation.

To staying disease-free,

Hey Jimi,

Are you exhausted from navigating the labyrinth of chronic illness without a clear path to recovery?

The truth is that chronic illness is a very personal issue – and often a lonely path. The solution that helps one person may do little to help someone else.
This fact is frustrating and is what keeps the hosts of Cracking the Chronic Illness Code Symposium searching for better ways to help you find YOUR solutions.

If you've been struggling with chronic illness and feeling frustrated by extensive testing, elusive diagnoses like fibromyalgia or ME/CFS, unsuccessful treatments, or the nagging feeling that there's more to your health puzzle than meets the eye, then you're not alone.

Well-meaning physicians can misdiagnose when you don't fit into a well-known diagnostic box.

Some people may respond to routine treatments, while others don’t.

Why is this? Chronic illnesses have multiple causes that happen at different times – in your body and in your life. Simply put, you are a unique individual with unique experiences, and for that reason, YOUR solutions may look completely different from someone else’s.

--->>Join me to learn more at the complimentary and online Cracking the Chronic Illness Code: Ticks, Toxins & Mold symposium!

Your hosts, Nafysa Parpia, ND, and Eric Gordon, MD, understand how exhausting and disheartening your challenges can be. Every day, they help patients who have seen dozens of doctors before they arrive at their clinic. People who are dealing with mysterious illnesses or unexplained symptoms have found relief through their individualized protocols to unravel and address the often overlooked issues that are contributing to complex chronic illness, including what they call “The BIG 3” – ticks, toxins and mold.

Their mission for the Cracking the Chronic Illness Code Symposium is to help you, your family, and health practitioners better understand the multiplicity of triggers that can lead to chronic disease.

Save the date: May 6-12, 2024.
Yours in Health,
Dr. Justin Marchegiani

P.S. When you register for Cracking the Chronic Illness Code: Ticks, Toxins & Mold, you’ll also unlock early-access interviews, complimentary guides and helpful eBooks about chronic illness prevention and recovery.

Wioman smoothie wide_559174189 copy

Hi, Jimi

Smoothies: They’re portable, delicious, and a great way to increase your intake of important plant nutrients. But you can’t just throw a handful of random veggies and fruit into a Vitamix and call it a day.

The good news is that making a healthful smoothie is easy when you follow a few simple guidelines. Use mostly greens, keep an eye on the amount of fruit, and add seeds. The problem is that if you use too much fruit – and not enough greens – you can overdo the sugar and calories.

And – spoiler alert – there’s one fruit that you absolutely need to avoid when crafting your drink.

Read my updated smoothie guidelines here:

Gut health is a growing health craze for good reason. Digestive issues are a widespread problem affecting roughly one out of every three adults. In an effort to improve their digestive health, many look to probiotics or “friendly” bacteria, but is this approach the best?

Marketing would have us believe that probiotics are the answer to all gut issues and while they are important, probiotics are not always representing the best natural solution for common digestive complaints.

The underlining cause of most gut discomfort is not digesting food properly. Most people compound the problem by choosing to simply block symptoms with acid-blocking drugs while others will jump on the probiotic bandwagon only to be disappointed.

The first goal in trying to improve most gut symptoms is to focus on improving digestion. Here is a good rule of thumb. If the bloating, gas, indigestion occurs within the first 30-45 minutes of eating go with Betaine HCL with pepsin. Here is an article I wrote that gives more information:

Can Betaine HCL Help With Low Stomach Acid and Improve Digestion?

If digestive symptoms occur more than 45 minutes after eating, supplementing with digestive enzymes will most often produce the best results. Unlike probiotics, digestive enzymes can make an immediate difference in digesting a meal. That is because enzymes actually help digest food, probiotics do not.

And if the issue is gastroesophageal reflux disease, please click here to download my free booklet GERD – What the Drug Companies Won’t Tell You and Your Doctor Doesn’t Know – where you will find safe and effective natural alternatives to taking acid-blocking drugs.

Digestive issues are often embarrassing and uncomfortable, many people get frustrated because they feel they have tried everything and nothing has worked. The reality is that they have not tried everything, they have just not tried the right approach.

Don’t give up, keep working to improve digestion and gut health. It is important. As Hippocrates said, “All Health Begins in the Gut”! It is true.
