Simple enough to find out, vape in power mode at your normal Wattage and see how it is before going to TC. I set my wattage limit just a little higher than normal on TC mode as backup in case TC isn't working well.

My coils are simple single spaced coils. I build my own. If your doing contact coils I can see why you need to pulse to ensure no hot spots.

I see. 580 sounds high. Also the drag u need to adjust the tcr between 1400-1600 for ss tcr to get it to work right

It's at 1300 right now. I'll try adjusting to 1500 when I get home. As far as temp goes, I was just trying to get the same hit I get in power mode. So I ended up at 580. I'll try lowering it but I think it'll just push me back to power mode.

I was really enjoying it last night. When I'm in power mode and using an rta, if I drawl on it for too long, the vape gets really hot. I was loving TC because I was able to get the hit I wanted without the temp of the vape/rta getting too hot.

I should mention all this is caused by me lowering my nic content And trying to compensate lol

I will at most clean/dry burn 1 time then replace the coil.
I use round wire and it is cheap.

TC mode and Power mode are different beasts.

Heck I am vapin at 400 SS TC with my Dripbox 160 squonker.
    And I like it.
It is not like vaping the same build in power mode though.

In power mode the coil keeps getting hotter thru the vape.
In TC mode it peaks at the set temp and throttles down.

So how does your power setup differ from your TC set up? You drag a little longer in TC?

Yep and I like that it does not get hot towards the end.
I tend to take long slow lung inhales.

TC is not for everyone or for every atty.
And some mods TC really sucks too.
I have a couple Kbox Mini 75W mods that the TC is wavery as heck. not useable, but they are fine in Pwr mode.

I like squonking with TC as I do not get dryish hits if I forget to squonk.

    Only wire I use is
    • Kidney Puncher (Kanthal & 316L)
    • Atomizer Wick (Kanthal & 317L)
    • Crazy Wire (317L)

Practice wire that I use and end up giving away the coils
    • Temco
    • Pure Atomist

Worst/shittiest wire I've ever used due to being filthy and just shit quality are
    • Kaybee
    • UD

I hate the taste I get from NiChrome, can't stand it

When I started trying to mess around with SS and TC all I had was my Captain PD270. Couldn't get a good TC vape to save my life. I thought maybe I just didn't like TC. Then I got the Drone. WORLD of difference. I vape the Drone almost exclusively in TC mode with AVS SS316L. I like it at 520-550 @85w. Sometimes I'll lower the wattage when I'm using a single coil. The two devices are day and night as far as TC is concerned.

With the captain, I feel like it's trying to melt my face wether I put it on 520 or 420. Can't tell the difference with the vape. It's just terrible no matter what I've tried. Def not the case with the drone (DNA chip).

I thought I remember the drag getting good reviews in regards to TC.

Either way it doesn't make sense why it was good last night and then bad today

I've been happy with the mod in every other aspect, just def not one you would want if TC was the main goal. It vape well in wattage mode. I like the feel, the huge fire button, the battery life, just, the TC is trash.

I don’t worry too much about it, and in any case, I’m in TC mode so they never get a chance to glow. They simply work.

My coils never get gunked up or dirty because I don’t vape juice with sweeteners or dyes, and in combination with the TC, I never reach temps where molecular chains are broken such that carbonization occurs.

    Cheers,
    Ian

You use Temco as "practice wire"? Why? It's annealed and is as clean as any wire I've used, including Kidney Puncher. I've heard others say they don't like Crazy Wire SS. Must be like wicks everyone loves this and hates that :D
You do realize crazy wire, kidney puncher, etc aren't actually wire manufacturers they get their wire somewhere, maybe offshore manufacturers, maybe Temco who is a manufacturer.

the crazywire SS430 isn't really SS430. it doesn't work in any SS430 mode on any mod. outside of that their wire is fine. i like their NiFe but their service was a disaster the 1 time i ordered from them

I've used Temco, and also Lightning Vapes, for kanthal. couldn't tell any difference at all. Not sure what brand of stainless wire I have, but my son seems to like it, though I didn't. *shrug* He also likes more heat and vapor than I do, which I think is the real difference; SS really isn't for tootlers like me. :giggle:

Temco wire may be the only vape wire sold that has the actual manufacturers name on it.

the only wire I have ever had that gave me any issues was UD wire.

Yes I use Temco as practice wire, I don't like it as much as I do Kidney Puncher or Atomizer Wick. Temco is clean, real Sandvick Kanthal but I find it springier than Kidney Puncher or Atomizer Wick.
Crazy wire, I don't like their Kanthal but I like their 317L and they have an excellent selection of gauges. My favorite for 317L is Atomizer Wick.

That and yes I'm fully aware that none of them smelt or mill their own wire, but where they source them from is what makes the difference.

I can't use wire with all those nooks and crannies, with my gunk-monster strawberry & cream. Just simple single-coil builds, right around 2 ohms. I have to dry-burn way too often to use fancy wire -- even twisted wire, when I was trying titanium TC, gave too many places for the gunk to get into.

Also about Kidney Puncher and Atomizer Wick -
    • Kanthal is actual real Sandvik Kanthal
    • SS is smelted in Sweden and milled here in the U.S.

Yep, but it's getting better, I've noticed; since I brought the flavoring down to right around 25% instead of 30ish, I can get by with dry-burning and re-wicking once a week, if I get really lazy. Twice a week is still better. :D

One time I was at the vape shop, and we were talking about rebuilding and incidentally, I asked a dude how Titanium wire vapes because I was curious. So he gave me a couple feet of his Titanium wire he got from I think it was Hong Kong or somewhere around there, and as soon as I hit it, I got a really horrible aftertaste. It was reminiscent of when I was a kid, and I had an obsession with licking those old metallic window screens they used to use in houses in the late 80s or so. It was that times 100. I was not happy! But it gave everyone a good laugh because I was making the most gnarly faces for a good three minutes because I couldn't get the bad taste out of my mouth! :D

Oddly enough, I don't have a problem with Kanthal or NiChrome though. All I ever get out of those coils is juicy goodness, but then again I always build my own coils. Never felt the need to try storebought coils except those nasty Demon Killer "claptons" I used to use before I got into rebuilding, and I wouldn't exactly call them claptons because it would probably insult every rebuilder in this forum. I've a huge amount of respect for the rebuilders here.

Nasty wire is a bit relative.
If making claptons and such and pulling 10 ft or more of wire between your fingers vs using 3 inches or so of wire to wind a coil.

I usually pull out about 1 foot of wire and wipe it in a fold of a paper towell with Isopropyl on it. Snip it loose from the spool and wind coils with it.
Then when mounted pulse to a dull red to burn off any impurities and to make sure both coils glow evenly. Just in case I forgot a turn or have a leg screw loose. :)
I only do spaced coils now so no pinching and such.
Just a quick check for even coils and hot legs.

Lots easier than when I used to torch all of it.

Kidney puncher wire costs almost 2X as much as LV or Kbee and KP does not have 25 ga SS316L wire.

If the wire is this filthy one has to also worry about what other nasty shit was processed in that factory. I hear a lot of "oh it doesn't matter, pulsing will burn that off" and other shit like that. Granted I always run my coils through the Ultrasonic, but still.

If their QC is that bad there is no way I will trust them. Also when I use quality wire they all hold up much, much better than shit wire like UD, Kbee, etc. Yes there is a difference and the cost for quality wire is negligible.

Don't think so, since I use Temco for my practice wire if it was the same I'd use Temco exclusively ya know ;)

I don't believe Temco has exclusive Sandvik distribution ya know

I only use genuine Kanthal A1, from Temco. Use their SS too, clean, annealed so it's not too springy, doesn't get any better than that ;)

Hmm, I got my last couple orders from KBee's, and haven't seen anything like you describe. Only small complaint I have with them is they take forever to deliver. Probably isn't their fault though. It sucks getting paid on a Friday sometimes.

I have my first order in the mail from them.
    25 ga SS316L.
    Kinda hard to find wire.

I used a bit of UD wire early on in my vaping.
    Kinda sucks.
Moved to Lightning Vapes and have no complaints at all with their wire.
I suspect that the LV and Bee wire is from the same manufacturer.
    Price is very similar.

Try washing the RDA in boiling water. Remember to take out all the O-rings. It's important.
Just boil up some water. Put the RDA in it, leave it for about 5min. Take it out and wash it again.. Or just pour water over it. Rebuild and try.
Also, take a look that the coil connector/post is clean and is able to establish connection with the coil(s).
Then u can have a look at the screw under the RDA. The one that goes down in the 510 connector on your mod. Maybe there is some dirt inside there wich is prohibiting the a propper connection between the RDA and the mod.
Might as well take the RDA fully apart, then you reassemble it. This way u can make sure 5hat the RDA is put together properly

One thing I'm finding with the pre-wrapped coils I have is that they're turning black pretty fast. Doesn't taste bad, doesn't change the taste of the juice, just turns the juice a dark color.
