Wait. Did you just actually ask me if I tried an SXK product Brewski?
But,,,but....but...you were saying you know someone at SXK......I thought as a courtesy to them, you might have tried it for a second or two to let them know how to make it better!

Well I like the flavor from the wasp but it’s a noisy little bastard. @The Cromwell you’re the wasp guru. How do you get the whistle out of it? Round off the edges of the airflow slots on the top cap? Coil up high or down low?

Carpe Nidor
Place my coil so the bottom of the coil is even with the bottom of the air flow channel.
I also use a long parallel coil that goes from on post to another.
Seems like I had whistle with shorter coils....

Haaa.. ah yes, my forbidden friendship
:giggle:
Non, but word on the street is they did a bang up job on the SXK Vapeshell.. like Le Supersonic ...without the bang ups!
Also news from said friend is that the Vapeshell clone is not gonna be around long, so if you’re inclined to try one before the real deal you should jump soon.

Did you try the SXK Vapeshell?
All this talk about BB, I'm really tempted to get one....fortunately they are sold out....for now.
I just might have to tag you for a Vapeshell in a month or two:headbang:
3f and FT have the SXK Vapeshell clone (less than $15 IIRC). I am tempted to try it myself in my SXK DNA60 BB clone.

I got my SXK BB from Gas City vapes in Canada. Came in 7 days. No complaints.

I also got the "DNA60 USB data/charging board" for $6 from Protovapor.com, and once I solder some leads to it, plan to temporarily connect it via removal of the button cover panel on the BB, in order to update via Escribe. (there is info on the Evolve Vapor forums, as well as a PDF from their product page for how to connect and use without installing it). The built-in SS316L profile feels like it has a TCR of 0.00080, and as such hits very low. Meaining to get a similar output to my preferred TCR 0.00111 35w @ 420F, with the stock material setting, the BB needs to be set for 50w and 500F to get the same vape output and response.

Let me know if there is interest and I will post links to all the above later if requested, as right now I am a bit impaired for typing due to a finger injury.

Also, rumor has it that SXK is doing another huge manufacturing run on the BB clones and they are supposed to be stocked at Chinese vendors some time in May.

Seems that the SXK 70w version with the Ares chip sells for like $85 and the DNA60 for like $130, but color selections right now seem limited to Dober, Green or Purple, and the 'rat black' version is hard to find.

I plan to get another BB at some point. I just love the form factor and the vape on this, and it's perfect for me as a shirt-pocket out-and-about device. With a 2.5mm 1+ Ohm 26g Kanthal build, @ ~18w, I can get about 7 hrs of chain vaping on a freshly charged LG HG2, and juice consumption is lower too, which is good.

Sorry for no links right now, but hunt-and-peck typing is like pulling teeth for me...

Another run & end of May, yes.
Huge, no. SXK DNA60 will be a very very limited production. And so far only RatBlack is planned.

Ok. Thanks for the info.

Do you know if the existing stock on the China sites are using the 'Ares chip' for the 70w, and also any way to get more info about the chip, like if it accepts custom TCR?

I tried to find info and it seems not available.

Pretty sure it’s the Ares chip ..which in my knowledge is total crap. These things have a very famous reputation of frying, seizing, autofiring etc.. it’s just a matter of time.
Supposedly SXK has done an incredible job on the DNA version though, not my cup of tea as I don’t buy clones but seems the extra money is well spent on getting the DNA.
Or better yet, save yer nickels for the authentic and get the lifetime warranty from BilletBox. A hefty ticket price but not when you consider the peace of mind.
;)
I stripped a screw on my DNA40 Rev4a that I didn’t even purchase directly from them and they send me a baggy of screws free of charge. Quality.

I will ask my friend at SXK for some info, but she’s in marketing and not a vaper so likely the best info I’ll get, is that they told her ‘temp control work real good, long time’

Thanks for the reply and info.

I too have heard bad things about the Ares chip. When I was looking to buy one from The Vapourist, and sent an email to confirm they were in fact in stock, I got a stern warning in the reply that the Ares chip version had no warranty and is subject to damage from e-juice.

I can confirm that the SXK DNA60 version has a rubber gasket seal all around under the plate where the display and buttons are located. I had removed this cover to put the end of a ribbon for the battery under the edge, since getting the battery out was a headache previously, and now it very easy to just pull the ribbon.

So far the ribbon is holding and no adverse effects to the board.

The price delta is about $55 between the Ares chip and the DNA60, which is about retail for the DNA60 board alone.

Some folks asked about the DNA75 being used in a BB, and the main concern is size, the DNA75 board is about 30% larger than the DNA60 board, and as such will not fit in this form factor without a major redesign.

I have also seen specs that the DNA60 is more efficient by about 12% than the DNA75 in terms of battery usage and power conversion to the atty connection, so I do not see much reason to 'upgrade' that myself.

Also, with something like a SS316L 0.25 Ohm build at 50w, the boro tank gets really warm/hot as do the G10/fiberglass doors, so running higher/hotter, I'd worry about melting the derlin boro tank or causing some other failure. When the mod is hot to hold in the hand, for me this is a concern.

To me, the beauty of the BB is mostly the form factor, and not for blowing massive clouds. There are plenty of devices that can do that, but for those that like a cooler temp vape than a 300w cloud-chucker, and/or want something that feels and looks kinda like an iPhone and is easy to fit in a shirt pocket, or the inside breast pocket of your suit-jacket and looks sleek and refined, the BB is really nice for any of that.

I'm currently running the Nic River smooth nic salts in it right now, with the Exocet, where I managed to get a nice vertical coil build in there with 26g Kanthal @1.15 Ohm, and at 19w, it is a nice, warm, moist and flavorful vape, also with great battery life...

@Le Furet - If you find out anything more from your friend from SXK about the Ares chip, and/or the release date of the next production run, please let me know.

I'd love to get an authentic BB, but I am tapped out right now and another SXK clone is closer to being within my grasp...

Sorry to all Bonkers for the lengthy digression into the Billet Box...please accept my tangential ramblings...

Thank you :)

No worries. I’m always guilty of singing the praises of the mighty BilletBox in here ..much to the chagrin of my mates. I tried posting in the BB thread on VU and the only ones that listened were the crickets. But yeah, I try to keep it squonky in here.
Anyway.. Squonkers are Bonkers.. then they get a Billet Box.
*ducking!*

But dang dude, your poor finger must be killing you...
:giggle:

Edit: besides, I think this time it was @BrewBear ‘s fault!

Thanks for the concern.

The finger pain turns out to have been caused by a super-tiny splinter that got under the fingernail of my pointer on the left hand, and somehow went unnoticed for about 24 hrs and then all of a sudden it was this throbbing and shooting pain, not just in my finger but went up my arm as well.

I manged to get the splinter out in between posts here, and it is better now, and just very tender underneath the nail in the skin part some folks call the 'quick', but yet the feeling of that sort of 'pinging' is still there...

A soak in peroxide will likely help to flush out any further debris, but my typing ability has improved since then.

I was hoping that something like the Innokin BASTION LiftBox would be like a hybrid between the BB and a Squonker, but lack of adjustability and a fixed glass tank that cannot be removed or replaced and a dodgy suction function - seems like a lot to pay when you can get a cheap mech squonker like that S-rabbit clone for a lot less that basically 'just works'...

But just had a proper gander at this, deck & airflow looks pretty promising.. and even if it sucks, I’m getting one just for the drip tip!

I have not looked inside of a squeeze yet.
I tend to not take things apart unless there is a need to do so.
Might see if DJLSB or Busardo has taken one apart...
Todd usually only takes mechs apart.
Of course taking mechs apart is a requirement to keep them running.

I know for a fact Daniel hasn't... I PM'd him a while back asking if he ever did a review of the squeeze... his response was," They never sent me one to review"

It's not difficult but there is a bit of a trick to the process.
The only tool required is one of these:

Torx_T5.png

Nigel Moxon (of SVB mod fame) had posted a vid in his FB group. He's probably done this a hundred times or more. Since I was unable to download it, I contacted him asking permission to share here and with the unwashed masses via YouTube so he was kind enough to send me the file via dropbox.

Yay me! My first YouTube upload...

Yeah I saw a tear down video of the pico a few months back, was in Italian I think...didn't seem all that hard to take apart if needed. Although Nigel's video is easier to understand lol

Thanks!

It's insane all the custom mods going up in the classies. And me with an orca on the way thinking to myself I was a third if the way to one of those customs. Now I'll just have an orca and watch someone else hand check that Nocturne mod.

I'm just over the gooberfet...I like the mod, but I don't find myself reaching for it much the past 2 weeks. Once that happens, I tend to move on from said mod.

I think the only one I wouldn't sell is the Neo Mara, I really like the ease of bottle fill and battery replacement.

Molly...pfft

GooberFet...pfft

Maybe someone will take me up on it, doubt it though...not many people want to spend $275+ on a mod ;)

I left it open to trades, but I think I may of worded it where people might think my examples are the only thing I'd consider. *shrug

There seems to be a vast number of Squonkers that remind me of Billetbox folks: "spending more is always better".

I think, as a spectrum, we are mostly being screwed by that plan and thinking.. I'd say the same about single-cell and dual-cell - regulated, unregulated and mechanical, too - but Squonking is a a subset of this mainstream.

I still don't like the "Pico Squeeze" - but they got the right pricepoint, I've no problems with them making billions on that stupid pricepoint, because folks getting them are aware of the pricepoint.

For myself, I still want a single-cell mod, using other than 18650 (20650, 2x700) is a plus - DO NOT tell me my batteries are bad cuz they are "too thick", (Smok OSUB Baby); Regulated? Fine, good - can't replace pcb cheap? BAD.. Unregulated? Fine, good - can't replace PCB? BAD.. Mechanical? well, stop selling me shit 'printed' or metal that somehow you justify for more than $30. NOT HAPPENING!

Oh, lest we forget: why the fuck are mech-switches - like on the DS-style - NOT using some proven, reliable mech system like <someone, somewhere> mech-tube-mod?? (Personally, I find most of them shit - but at least FDV sells a complete NC replacement, magnetic switch)

How many companies produce their OWN flavor of PCB? How many are replaceable? Why is the concept of a MOSFET so expensive? Adding even battery-protection?? Comethefuckon.. Here's a clue: chuck out the fucking "charge in place" option.. We can all buy and own decent chargers..

"wet" - wait, wtf? Evolv knows about "conformal coating", and I just had a buddy tell me about cheap spraycan sources.. Waterproof, JUST SOLDER LIKE IT"S ROSIN.. umm, really? way-cool. (I knew about solder-mask and even making PCB and multilayer, and reflow - never heard of simple "CC".

"Updating" - are you fucking joking? I've programmed atmel, and will never own another PIC. Try again.

So what do you think the mod you're describing should cost? Are you saying that there aren't any mods worth buying?

I genuinely hope you find what you want but I don't think such a mod exists.

The price-point is already evident. Feel free to spend more. No, I am not - enjoy.
Sounds like vaping is utilitarian to you... a means to an end. A good number of us here are hobbyists and/or collectors. That's why some of us spend more to get something a little more limited or unique.

I guess I'm trying to understand where your rants came from? Did someone talk shit about a lesser expensive mod and I missed it?

Oh yes, yes I do. With a sexy-ass stainless domed button and matching integrated drip tip.

I have no real issues with "collectors" - those Commemorative Vapes have a real future.
Sure sounds like you do or at the very least you think you're much smarter than us for the way you choose to spend/not spend your money. Burden of knowledge and all that.

Or maybe I'm just too stupid to comprehend your real message. I'll go with the latter since ignorance is bliss.

Your life sounds like one big misery and it comes off like you resent folks who like to vape nice things

I understand being frugal, I understand being broke; I don't understand why you seem to resent anyone else enjoying a quality squonk

Yes, thanks for the suggestion. It is on my list to investigate.

What do you all (Bonkers here) vape for ejuice?

Is it your own DIY, or do you buy mostly pre-made?

Are you favoring freebase-nic or nic-salt juices?
I don't DIY my own e-liquid.
I get a couple big bottles of a few of my faves listed below.
(Gaia & Legend by Heather's Heavenly)
(Blueberry Buckle by Bulk E-Juice)
(Boss Reserve by Cuttwood)
(Exodus 7:20 by Seduce)
(Apple + Grape & Strawberry + Blueberry & Blackberry all by Jam Monster)
Of course I'm subscribed to Zamplebox as well.So that handles about 10 days worth of vaping.

Please note I didn't list all my faves otherwise this response would be way too long.I'm a (Juice Juggler)

If you want to try NET juices, send @Vash a PM, he can set you up with a tester pack for not much cash. His NETs are really good (at least I like them) and he is a nice guy to deal with.
I don't know him.Plus it seems like most people here hate my guts.So that idea might not work for me.

Don;t confuse "resent" or "nice things" with overpriced/expectations. A whole lot of folks at a whole lot of levels vape - or want to. I merely don't want the herd to even begin to believe that Expensive relates to Works, or Nice.

I'd love to have a BB to compare-against and test, but - like buying a "gaming computer" or a Lamborghini: it's not necessary and not on my agenda.

Interesting how I appear to resent folks when I resent expensive, however.
