I appreciate every bit of information so what can I do to keep it safe?

Safe is a relative term. For example some people don't sub ohm for safety. However I'm skipping that whole speech because it's been said a million times and it's obvious you feel comfortable with sub ohming.
For this mod I haven't had a chance to test each safety feature but I can say that mine, no clue on others, doesn't use the atomizer short message that is supposedly has. Maybe it only considers post shorts or 510 connection shorts atomizer shorts. I've had a few builds accidentally touch my deck or top cap on the mut x v4 and never got the atomizer short message. I noticed them when dry firing my coils to get them to heat evenly so it shouldn't be a problem so long as you check your coils before wicking them, which everybody does so they can align them.
If they do end up touching your top cap or deck while vaping you'll be fine and you'll notice instantly because you'll get a straight hit of Satan's anus. If you somehow can vape that, I can, it'll taste burnt and metallic and very different from burnt wick.
Also it has an improved lock feature from other models if you have the limited or royal edition, from your picture it looks like a royal if I'm not mistaken. So use your lock.
And always make sure to wipe up any leaked juice asap to keep it out of the mod. Mut x v4's are notorious for leaking through their bottom airflow and mine leaks like no other. To prevent it just drip less or pay attention to where you drip and you'll be fine, I'm just careless.
Also I'm pretty sure it's just mine but my firing button can get stuck if pushed in and then slid to a direction if that makes sense. It's only happened twice and when it does if I just push the button in and let go it normally stops. If not I push in and slide toward the center and it's good. Pretty sure I just got something stuck in it and it's in need of cleaning.
