Me panic? Nope have my peril sensitive glasses on :)

I am fairly prepared though. Not as well as I am for the Vapeapoclypse though.

Surgeon General says not to worry the virus is contained to areas.

Umm why are the numbers of infected areas rapidly growing in number then.
Now 33 states I think when less than a week ago it was maybe a half dozen or so?

We are being led by lying idiots.

Hit Nevada a few days ago. 2 at the VA. ( I think there are a few more now ) My hubby was there that same day. Great...... I honestly am surprised it took this long to hit Vegas with all the casinos we have here. You know when they test here? only IF you have traveled to hot zones and if you have a dry cough and fever. They ( the hospital a teacher went to ) turned her away even though she had the cough and the fever. She had not been to any "hot zones" so they would not test her. Real nice, a teacher, in contact with kids. I think I read that she does not plan on going into work. I sure hope that changes fast since the article came out.

I have to go to the doctor come Wed. Hubby broke out the n-masks and the hand sanitizer and gloves. He told me I'm not going anywhere without those due to my having a very bad immune system. As it is I don't go out much because when I do, I would say there is a 75% chance I will get sick once I am in contact with people.

I wasn't real thrilled that the boys all came here Thursday for DnD game day. They all work as dealers in the local casinos. With as paranoid as my hubby is with this, I was shocked he even let them come here to play. What I don't quite understand is that we have thousands if not tens of thousands of people that die from the flu every year. Why is this such a BIG thing now. It makes me think this is a hell of a lot worse than they are letting us know.

Shrug, I simply don't know. All I do know is I am a bit scared to go out Wed but it's an important appointment. I will just have to try and protect myself best I can :)

Latest I have read is the CDC only tests those that appear to have the virus or if confirmed with those they know came into contact with them.
latest is 1,500 or so total CDC tests. And 400 or so positive out of that?
And NO anyone who wants a test cannot get it.

Better news is that more test kits are coming available and states have begun their own testing.
Most states seem to be planning for this MUCH better than the federal government who appears to be in denial.
KY is doing their own testing now.

the wife and I are going into self isolation in our rural location this week.

i predict the real panic to begin in April.

KY's patient zero for the virus worked at Wal mart in Cynthiana.
Here we go folks. Also second patient already from Cynthiana.
In rural KY maybe 25% or more of the local population will shop at Wally World in the course of a week.

Gov. Beshear setting an example for state employees, urging employers to accommodate sick leave needs for patients at risk or testing positive for #coronavirus

good for him. People lose their low paying jobs for missing work sick.
And by the time you realize it is not a cold and you have been working....

I think that's the reason this has spread like it has. People can pass it on to someone else before they even realize they are sick.

I just wanna stay home now. Have to go to the office tomorrow, and I'm really, really dreading it.

Yep they just think they have a cold. And since many/most employers will penalize you for missing work and most of us need money, we go to work with the 'cold'....

Over the last few years, thankfully, my employer has gotten better about realizing that, when people are sick, they need to stay home. Otherwise, instead of one sick person, you have two, or six, or twenty. People take things home to their families, then it spreads that way, gets out of control quick!

Everyone in my department is close to or over 60. When someone gets significantly sick, like with flu or something, if they brought that to work. it could wipe out the department for a month. We are all more susceptible than the average bear, and as you get older, you just don't bounce back as quickly.

I am pretty terrified of the COVID situation. Right now I am recovering from my second staph infection this year already. My immune system is crap, and I already pick up everything the grandkids bring home from that petri dish of an elementary school they go to.

Not gonna like that post and I feel your pain honey. Please try and take whatever precautions you can. I am quite scared also but there are things I simply must go out for ( as we all do )

That sounds like the way China was testing, prolly to lower the numbers of infected people.

I also think it’s going to get bad next month or possibly May. What else do we need to happen in May at this point?

Plus a lot of infected people are asymptomatic, afaik. It’s a recipe for disaster.

Captain Trips is taking hold....

Had to look it up. It's been too many years. The book that thoroughly pissed me off at Stephen King. Never been so tired of reading a book in my life.

Holy cow. I am thoroughly impressed.

Another 345 pages? The thing was already about 700 pages in paperback, wasn't it?

Amazon says the paperback version they are selling now is 1200 PAGES. Jeez. I knew it was long.

My original release hardcover is 823 pages. So add 345 to that for the extended release lol. My mom has the extended version.

Here's my slow growing collection of King books.
Still missing some of The Dark Tower series. Used to have them all... lost them years ago. There's a few pictured here that I still have not read.
There's even a Stephen King pop up book in these pics. Ive never opened it or taken it out of its plastic.

I was at home with a broken arm, in a cast from my knuckles to my shoulder, with an 8-month-old baby boy and a 4-year-old girl, in pain, couldn't sleep, couldn't crack a darn ice tray by myself to save my life, trying to read that damn book. To open baby food, I had to take my shoes off, sit down in the floor, put the baby food jar between my feet, and open it with my one good hand. I was not happy.

I got about halfway through the book, and it felt like I'd been reading the same chapter over and over and over again. I looked down at the book, saw how much I had yet to go, and just got so mad I could hardly stand it. There was an impressive string of profanity going through my head right at that moment.

Think that might have been displaced frustration? I can't imagine that it was...but anyway, me and The Stand parted company right then, never to meet again. And that's the story of me and the end of my Stephen King reads, except for one book of short stories I read years later (under his Bachman nom de plume, I believe).

Check out the Audiophile Repository ll on YT. He has some great readings of Stephen King books. And a really good Salem’s Lot 6 part radio drama. And The Dark Tower. Really excellent, imho.

Nice collection of books! I’m a book worm, too.

I was raised on Stephen King, Dean Koontz... horror novels and horror movies as far back as I can remember. My absolute favorite is a book titled Carion Comfort by Dan Simmons. Only book of his I've ever read. Fantastic read. Very vivid story. A bit unsettling. Nazis living after the war. Mind control. Playing real life games with unsuspecting people as their game pieces. Twisted.

Have you read any Blake Crouch? The Wayward Pines trilogy? I thought it was super good, even though that's not normally my kind of read. I was glued to those books, and then others of his that I read after I finished the trilogy. Then, a quite different series I thought was good was Benjamin Ashwood (6 books) by A. C. Cobble.

I got Kindle Unlimited a few years ago and have read more in that time than I have in the rest of my life all put together, I believe. Not all of it was good stuff, but some. I've very nearly given up TV altogether.

But the mini series was so good, imho.

Oh jeez, the original IT series. Oh my freakin god.

See I was already pissed at Stephen King because of The Stand, and I had already read that stupid book "Christine," and by the time I got to IT on TV, I was ready to throw him to the damn curb.

We all sat in the living room when the thing ended, looked at each other and went, "What?" Only thing I've ever seen on TV that left me more puzzled than the ending of Dexter.

Never made it to the mini series of The Stand.

Yes, it was. It only made it for 2 seasons before ending abruptly. I remember it now. A town in the future. Surviving by isolation. Hiding from some sort of mutated future humanoid. Everyone lives in this town. Unable to go outside the walls. Most don't question it. But then a federal agent shows up. Things are weird. She was in an accident hundreds of years in the past. Frozen. Then brought back as a citizen of this town in the future.
Wonder why they cancelled that series.

Father Callahan from Salem's Lot comes back in The Dark Tower. He died in Salem's Lot only to find himself trapped in Roland's world.

You’ve got to check that YT channel out, then. I was glued to it for 6-7 episodes of Salem’s Lot. And he just uploaded The Dark Tower. I’ll listen to that this week!! I like being lazy and listening to audio dramas or books sometimes.

I didn’t like the movie with David Soul, but I’m not sure if you can translate that story effectively to film. I haven’t read the book, though. My hubs read IT and although he’s fairly inured to scary stuff, he was pretty freaked out when he read it @15 years ago. He was at out his parents’ house and he was calling me just to hear my voice! <3

The dark tower movie was a disgrace. Worst piece if shit to ever be called a movie. They destroyed the story to fit it into 90 minutes. So many characters and events missing.

I will listen in a bit, thanks for recommending it! I never watched any of his movies, except the Stand one as a mini series. I really loved that, and I hope they were true to the book.

I don’t usually read horror anymore. I read a few Lovecraft stories and I started having nightmares every night for a week. So I figured that was really enough!

Have you ever read The Dresden Files? They are so good!!

Dark Tower isn't really horror. It's more fantasy. Monsters. Wizards. Magic. Witches. That's why a lot of hardcore king horror fans dont like the dark tower series.
Never heard of the Dresden files... sounds like a mystery thriller.

It’s a mix of mystery and magic. Reviewers point out the Noir detective aspect, but it also involves wizards and magic and the like. It’s very well written and I’m reading them again now. You can get them on eBay for cheap. The author is Jim Butcher.

It’s not really graphic but it’s not lightweight, either. He’s got a website but it’s mostly for fans. Maybe check out Wikipedia?

I have about 400 gloves and 100 surgical masks.

Just got in from Wally world. the place was beat to crap, pretty much out of toilet paper, bleach, lysol, etc.
Good thing I have pretty much completed my prep.
