My pulse 22 finally came... still trying to figure out what resistance I like a single coil at.. very limiting being capped off at 80w... I’ve been vaping on 2 coils around 100-125w for YEARS now. It is a big change..... anyway, here’s a fralien I made for it to see how it went

    4(.5x.1k)
    2(26k)
36n80 alien.. 4.5 wrap/3mm around .23ohms. Coil got all matchy matchy with my squonker haha

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

If anyone got a good build for a single cell 80w mod, let me know!!

i have had good luck within those specs (single mech at ~.2 ohms) just using spares from my lower parallel builds. the best coil i ever put in my hadaly was a leftover fattie framed staple. i cant remember the exact composition but im pretty sure it was 10-15 plies of .3 ka1 and i know it was 42n80 wrap. thing was so good in there i regret replacing it.

lucky friend :D super slick looking coils too
keep posting your builds man, 'getting there' is a side effect of posting here  have you made any more staples or tried a framed staple yet?

No i haven't tried anymore Staples lately. Waiting on some more ribbon wire.got some .5 should be here this week. But I was able to get the .8 to work even though too thick. I have faith in the 5 and eventually the 3. I'll get it. Thanks for the boost of confidence.

Dude if you practice you will definitely get there. It took me nearly four months to learn how to make alien coils. Now they are easy, I feel like I can alien wrap almost anything. It's entirely a feeling thing. There's no one thing your going to think or realize that is going to make it happen. You have to practice and develop the feeling. At first you might only get a half inch of wire done. That's OK cause that's proof in and of itself that its not impossible. Then as you keep practicing you'll notice you'll get a little further, then a little further, until one day you'll be building and the groove will just stay in place and you'll be like is this really happening? Sure enough you'll get enough for at least one coil and the satisfaction of building your own alien coil and vaping it will be overwhelming. One thing that helped me in the beginning was using a paperclip to help keep the wires parallel. I think that's one of the parts people have the most trouble with. If you use a paperclip doing two inches at a time and you keep your hand steady and the tension even you will get a groove. The more you practice the longer you'll be able to keep the groove. Don't give up man just practice whenever you have the time. I promise you if I can do it, anyone can.

That's a really beautiful build man! Single coil Fraliens are my favorite vape and your coil looks excellent. I love the color you got in this shot. The deep blue and purple really came out nice and even. Your binding is tight and your wraps are really solid too. The image of this coil is gonna make me go out for a vape break right now! Awesome work man, really beautiful.

Thanks bro!! I really need to work on my photos... this coil looked so much better in person then in the photo. Maybe I’ll build a picture box later today, see if that helps any.

If anyone has any advice on taking pics let me know... right now I’m usually using my IPhone 8 Plus, Black or white base and background and sometimes a magnifying glass if the lighting will allow me.

Honestly I think your photo was great but I feel the same way about my photos. I was thinking about buying a magnifying glass and using that to help me with the photos I take. I'm no expert in photography at all but I've heard from credible sources that a magnifying glass can really help. I guess we'll find out when I get the time to pick one up!

Great for MTL or little flavor clouds DL :) that's a 16mm deck :0

This thing, I can hold it right up against my phone perfectly still (holding the phone still is a different matter lol), the circle (5x mag) fits over my camera lens just right :)

I have a round old fashioned one too but it doesn't hold steady at my phone like this rectangle one does

thats a lotta coil for such a small atty :D

i used a little loupe for the longest time, and only recently upgraded to a clip on macro lens. the loupe was the only way i could get a good pic of my coils with my phone and kept me going for a while. i am really impressed with the macro lens though. the loupe is ok for taking pics of coils, but the macro really get some extra detail. heres a couple very similar shots. first is the loupe on 32/42 alien, second is the macro on 36/46
    3242wire.jpg
    3646alienwireshot.jpg

can really see the difference. the loupe is ok, and its a bit easier to work with. good enough for coil pics imo. the macro gets a lot more detail, but its a lot harder to work with. all my loupe pics are just cropped and uploaded. my macro pics end up being harder to take/set up, and they have to get stacked in photoshop. takes like 10 min for a pic instead of 1 min with the loupe.

WELL then. Never had so much trouble getting a vape ready as today. Yeah, I had two coils ready for the Templar but one leg Would. Not. Stay. Put. I messed up taking the wrap wire off the legs, the staples got too flat on one leg. Such smooth air though, very nice
    IMG_20180315_114337_2.jpg

And the Morphe has a short in the leg, but I had to get my school assignments done and it's noisy as crap, rape whistle plus a gust of wind through the trees, so I'll work on it later. I'll flip the coil upside down and get the little bits off that's shorting it. Pretty sure it was meant for the legs to be at the top, not the bottom, anyway.

    akd_game_thumb_408x314.jpg

edit: @AnthonyLouis this is a good single coil vape for just under 80 watts, the one on the Templar is great unregulated too, I Think that one is 12 ply .3 too

About to spin this staple in a few. Finishing kids homework now. Hope this works out. Will be 8x.4ribbon/36 n80 wrap. If that goes well may try a frame for it. Or just do a few ply in the next one.[IMG]

Last wrap twisted on me but it's a staple and wrapped the correct way. Woohoo. Still not real happy with it but at least I got one down. Didn't have enough for a dual but can always make some more. Need better swivels[IMG]

2 strands of .3×.1 KA1 twisted together, clapton'd around it with 38g Ni80, then twisted that together with another strand of .3×.1 KA1. Haven't vaped on it yet, but going for the full 16.8 volts this time.

well, I had a good idea I suppose lol.. SSFC that twisted in a weird way.. 26g frames spaced with 32g inside those, 8 .3 ribbon with a 28/38g Clapton running down the center. all fused with 36g all n80 except the 28g which was KA1(couple different styles of fuse, I stopped caring lol)[IMG][IMG]

:inlove:It's my first 40 ga. I find it cool how with 36 ga wraps my lemon vape really shines (Nitrous oxide -double comma vapes) but with the 40 its kind of muted. On the plus side my grape (skyline fuel) shines, really nice with the 40ga !:banana:

I've learned from my superiors that the trick to wrapping anything with vertical ribbon is to keep constant tension on the wire. If you can find a way to get clearance and keep constant tension your wrap is gonna improve significantly. Once you install those just give them a little tweeze to tighten them up and you'll be vaping just fine. Good job!

Very cool man, especially your second photo, that just looks really tight. I noticed the ribbon seems horizontal. Was that on purpose or did it just come out that way? I love the idea of throwing that clapton wire right in the middle of the SSFC I never would have thought of that. Really really nice.

Dude I gotta tell you your Fraliens are just sick. Your wraps are perfect. Color shots look great. I mean extremely impressive. In the short time I've been a part of this forum I've seen you make some really awesome fraliens. I gotta make myself a pair this weekend. I think they are arguably the best vape. Great binding too. Your waves are tight and there's not a single mistake. When I do em I find the faster I bind the coil the tighter the wrap gets so I like to go along slowly for an inch or two on the framed stack and once I get that I just let em rip. I really enjoy seeing your fraliens great job man! You and @Pegleg Meg have just been killing it with the fraliens. Hopefully I'll have some time to build tonight after my 11 hour workday. I'll get some fraliens done and maybe get started on a staple helix, a build I wanted to improve on. @mach1ne inspired me to become good at the staple helix and I gotta do right by him.

thanks man. it was unintentional. I'm not exactly sure why it twisted over, prep was solid, but it did. I thought it'd look neat. I originally made it with a plain ol' 28g in the center and it was hard to distinguish from the ribbon. fwiw, the vape was a bit off for me anyways. pretty hot and harsh. came in around .10-.11 or so.

I used to have my ribbon twist all the time on me. I think the key is in the prep work. Also using nylon pliers and keeping tension on the wire helps a lot as I'm sure you know. I recently did a staple helix and I watched as the ribbon twisted on the first wrap and I was like nooooooo! I think I know how to prevent it a second time. Thing is the ribbon can go horizontal and you can still get a quality vape from it so it's never the end of the world. It still gives you those flavor benefits you get from ribbon wire. I honestly have a hard time loving any vape that doesn't have ribbon wire in it at this point. Come to think of it I have to order some more haha.

I stopped making regular staple coils because it just wasn’t worth it.. took to much effort to wrap them lol. Try doing the framed staple coils. They are an incredible vape (best core setup in my opinion) and MUCH easier to fuse and coil

And I agree... fraliens are hands down the best vape possible... I don’t see how any other coil could top them. Hell I’ve said it before, even the regular framed staple coils vape amazing. I was vaping on them the year+ I took off from building. I could probably make those in my sleep now haha. But yeah, the faster you go wrapping the alien, the cleaner and tighter the wraps are going to be. I have a Pretty beefy stick of fraliens I made the other day that I wanted to try as a single coil,

It was really great to make them because the frames were so large that I didn’t even need a slider holding the ribbon together with it... I was able to just let it rip the whole time and the wrap just came out flawlessly. I kinda wish I used some n80 because they would have colored beautifully with how wide of a stick it is!! But yeah, I generally do the same thing, I do about 7/8 rotations slow just to make sure the stretch is right and then let it rip. Another thing... if i see my decore isn’t stretched enough after my first few wraps I’ll stop.... rather then continuing to wrap with more tension on the decore to stretch it, I’ll get up and actually stretch it some more and then start again. I find having a perfectly stretched decore works much better then trying to wrap and use tension to stretch. Maybe it’s just a personal preference but I find it works out MUCH better and cleaner...

If you don’t have the Patinos Alien Makers I highly recommend you get them.... best sliders I’ve ever used. Most of the time I can let it rip and they’ll move down the wire on their own... that’s how my wraps get so tight most of the time, no stopping/starting/stopping/starting, etc..

    Good Luck tonight!!!

Totally agree with you about the stretching. If you try to add more stretch to the wire while your binding you could end up giving too much tension and pulling the stack out of order. We have very similar methods of making fraliens as I agree with everything you said. I'm not really familiar with the Patinos Alien Makers but I'm gonna look into them for me its just a paper clip for the first couple inches and the off we go. I get the wrap real tight... if I don't screw up my groove from my anxious left leg bouncing up and down hehe. Glad you are back into your building groove. Sometimes I'll do a regular framed staple. I find high gauge framed staples vape nicely for me. I'm a sole N80 builder so what I like to do is make a single coil 6ply .5 ribbon/26g frames/36 or 38g wrap. I'm not knocking kanthal or stainless steel I think if that's your thing then more power to you, I just prefer the taste I get from N80. Some people say they can't tell a difference so I dunno, I could possibly be a weirdo. If I'm gonna dual them I'll use .3 ribbon instead of .5. I'm also a sole mech mod user, although I'll use my DNA250 from time to time to get some color for a photo. I'm no where near as good as catching color as you are, not even close, but its always fun to see a little color of some sort on a build. Hopefully tonight I'll have something new to post! I wanna do another staple helix but you need daylight for that sh*t haha. Be well man, looking forward to your next post.

I have these for regular aliens, do they make ones large enough to the whole core, ribbon wire and all? That would be magic!

Are staples with ribbon bigger than 0.3 that much harder to wrap? I've only used 0.3 ribbon, and it seems to wrap easy; I use my hands and only get out the pliers to hold one end if the wraps start sliding on me

In my experience .4 is not much harder .5 is a little bit more challenging just cause you need more tension or its likely to flop and twist on you (frames do help), and anything above .5, like .8 is virtually impossible, I mean I'm sure it's been done somewhere by someone but no matter how much tension you give it its gonna wanna twist on you. I think the only things .8 would be good for are like juggernaut coils where your wrapping two claptons with slightly spaced ribbon wire or Tiger Wire where it's twisted. .8 ribbon twisted with 24g is nothing that special to look at but it can be a nice vape if you need a build and don't have a ton of time. I personally don't keep any .8 ribbon.

The .4 ribbon got a little stiff towards the end of the coil last night. But honestly it's the first staple I've actually coiled so not really sure
