Pegleg Meg, if you do twist them backwards they will open back up and create crevasses for juice to run through. Can also be done all four at the same time and wrapping ribbon backwards to create, as mach1ne said, a tidal wire. It's a pretty nice build from the ones I've tried but they do need alot of space because of them opening back up.
Mach1ne, absolutely loved that haha, one of us, one of us, one of us.....
And JRiley always lovely work la, how's it vape?

Lovely coils Jriley! ..what did they ohm out at? Also do you have the build specs?

Do you put the lead forward to skip every other wrap on the 1st half of the build?

I really want to give these a go :)

some framed multistrand/cablecore fused claptons. no idea whats inside it was a pile of wire ends from random builds. likely mostly a mix of 36-42 n80 and 316, framed with 26? n80 or ka1...came in at .12, on an ijoy 26650 its got a bit of ramp up, but its not intolerable. i was in a rush with only about 20 min to get this new tank (clone of 'the tank') set up before company arrived. will probably try a better build after this tank is empty, but its vaping pretty well so maybe ill just leave it alone...

lmao now ill have dio in my head all night you monster!

coils are 3mm
Could be worse, coulda been RIDE THE TIGER, YOU CAN SEE HIS STRIPES BUT YOU KNOW HE'S CLEAN

I mean...oops :xD:

So that tank's air looks good for normal ID coils, but wider/more wraps I guess? Dunno if I will jump on a 30mm tank soon but that Ohmec one is looking good to me.

:cuss2:

i have had the silver version of this tank for quite a while and yeah, they really prefer wide coils that can cover the whole air hole. the air itself isnt adjustable. its pretty wide and very smooth. with the right build the flavor on this thing is surprisingly good.

34 was to be replaced with 2×40 but i ran outa 40 awg wire a couple inches in
that always hurts. hows it vape? its prolly pretty close to how it would vape if the wraps were perfect. 34 is not the best wire to be stuck with at that point in such a tough build, its so stiff im surprised you got as far as you did with it

rebuilt the tank from yesterday with some 5x30/40 316 aliens (.13 ohms). some big mistakes on the back coil, but most of the wire came out clean  much nicer ramp up/vape now

Awesome man...how do you keep the 5 cores in a line? I just did a 3 core clapton, it's a triangle of cores of course

i used high gauge wrap, two ribbon sliders, and almost zero tension on anything. its also in the prep of the cores. i tie mine together at the end with high gauge wire and clamp it flat, then add a dab of hot glue stick. then i make two ribbon sliders on that end and slide them towards the side thats not glued together, gather it all up, tie and glue it too. then when im on the drill wrapping the clapton/alien around it, if i see anything start to bunch up, i stop the drill and squeeze the cores flat (nylon pliers) asap. you can catch/fix it if you are vigilant

Sounds like some really handy advice to go into the official aliens thread mate ;)

It's not the fanciest build, but it works well and definitely makes the flavor pop. I'm running 26g nichrome fused Claptons with 36g nichrome wrap, 9 wraps with a 3.5mm ID, and it OHMs out at .18. I put three of them in my triple 28 RTA. I am really liking this set up so far. This Triple 28 is a beastly tank. It's just really well built, and the grub screws are really high quality which is really important to me....im a bit heavy handed when tightening down the screws and always seem to strip them pretty quick lol. If anybody is looking for a bigger RTA with plenty of room then this is the tank for you.

My first two attempts at Claptons. I went straight to fused. N26gx2/K34g. I can't tell if it's just a bitch to straighten these out or if my cores crossed.

Top is my first attempt. Bottom is the second. Top ended up mostly spaced because I couldn't keep tension on the wire. So I put some encyclopedias in front of my jig

And yes I thought about using my daughter's toy bench lol.

Thanks! I plan on getting a better set up. I'm wrapping them right now and they seem to straighten themselves out in the process

Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Yeah the fused ones do, I dont even bother trying to straighten them anymore even 3 core aliens straighten themselves out when wrapping I find

Staples however are just a bitch to wrap full stop

Very nice, indeed. I’m pretty sure it took me a couple of days before I even had something that could “kind of” fit into an atty to vape when I started claptoning. And there is nothing wrong with that bottom one...one of the great things about coilsmithing is that if a coil doesn’t come out exactly like you wanted all you have to do is give it a name and it’s just a new style of coil! I don’t see a fused clapton where your cores might have crossed...you simply made the perfect “Twisted Fused Spaced Clapton Coil”...congrats!

You're not drinking water are you?! You realize that stuff is found in antifreeze!?!

Haha after wrapping them I don't think the cores crossed. After doing this, idk how you make aliens without swivels. Props to you.

Yeah, like Kingpin said, fused clapton designs want to lay flat even if at first glance they don’t appear that way. And the key to non-swivel builds is shorter core wires...when you’re only claptoning or wrapping Decore with 6 inches or so worth of cores, once you get the first half inch wrapped, the rest of the wire stiffens up and stays together, there’s just more of a corkscrew type twist that happens with mine...lucky that all I have to do for that is reinsert the wire into the drill, grip the other end with pliers and squeeze the trigger a few times and it uncorkscrews the wire...or at least enough that I can finish untwisting with toothless pliers or nylon pliers.

I had no idea what this was going to ohm out to. I just used wire I had and wrapped it at what I thought would work.

26x2/34, 3mm, 7 wrap, .22 ohms.

Perfect! I'm happy.

Holy crap, that’s gorgeous. I’m jealous now...coilporn worthy stuff on your first couple of attempts? You’re cut off from Aliens now...just on the principle that your stuff shouldn’t look that good so early in your building progression, lol.

Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Yeah why not ...mind you those seconds ones you made will clean up and keep you going for at least a month or more ;)

Edit: If it makes you feel better I vaped on this monstrosity..... the gargoyle hoof in the flesh ..was pissing about using up all the left overs I had from some builds a while back

Actually wasn’t that bad haha

Omg so beautiful buddy, you can tell by the coloring then MFers are already glowing right off the rip inside out. I need to get my builds a bit more immaculate before I start posting macros. My phone has the capability but nothing like you guys. Great job every one. Happy New year's your guys, to all my homies

I twisted wire for the first time today, it was fun. I twisted 2 and 3 22 gauge and 2 and 4 28 gauge to get a feel for how thinner and thicker wire act.
View attachment 99487

So I'm trying the quad twisted 28 first
View attachment 99489

Worth it :) totally gonna try lots of twisting and braiding, before claptons (I'm a girl, braiding is in my genes)
I have a feeling you'll be great at it!!
