Hey, speaking of EC, I just heard that the Venezuelans are leaving home by invading Brazil (and they are fighting back) and even sneaking through Columbia to EC. Is that going to adversely affect you?

Not to my knowledge, my place is 50 miles from any civilization whatsoever.....:teehee:

The GF said the people from Venezuela are leaving their country like gangbusters tho. Surely can't blame them either, I'd be outta there to.

I hear the rulers are still dining on steak and Joe Average can't get a loaf of bread with his entire life savings. I wouldn't stick around either, but what can one expect by invading the neighboring countries? Nobody wants extra bodies camping out in their fields and eating their crops....

Yeah, it's a sad situation. Eli (my GF) said there are entire families walking through the country to other countries which have more agriculture to possibly get a job picking something. She said some are trying to sell candy on street corners for a few pennies, really sad situation, especially when they have really young children.

Eli said there hasn't been an upsurge in crime, I assume the people are just desperate to get a job doing anything. There isn't much going on in Ecuador. She said many people are providing food for the people, which is a good thing. I couldn't imagine being in a situation like that...penniless, and no real plan of attack.

Some part of me says "stand and fight." I am a really old phart with "patriot" written across my face and heart, and likely I would be one of the first to die in such a situation, but I simply could not stand by while this crap was going on and innocents were falling all around me. If you don't leave, you die of starvation or get shot trying to eliminate the socialist dictatorship. But I also will always shout out DON'T TREAD ON ME!

Anyway, this old phart has to crawl in the sack now, so I'll BS with y'all tomorrow.

You would think the people would put an end to the dictatorship, I would certainly be doing the things you mentioned, and probably be shot as well.

Good news! The post is still set! :bliss: Somebody pushed on it a little bit, but not much. There was just a couple millimeters of gap between the post and the dirt, so I stepped on it. I think the shims worked, at least for now. :D

Rich is right, as of this morning, the forecast is for severe thunderstorms Thursday night and Friday morning, however the highs are 80, 81, 88, 83, and 87 for today and the next four days. Doesn't mean it won't only hit 70 in there somewhere, though, because 99% of the time the weather guessers are wrong, but that's the current five-day forecast for us. We'll see. I need some 80s to ripen all those green tomatoes out in the garden.

These are my last days of "relaxation" for a while. The 'maters should be ripe, the cabbages will be ready to harvest, the peppers will be ready, the squash, melons, root veggies, etc. right about the same time both cows calve, and one of them is a first-timer. You can't even imagine the chaos that is about to ensue with all of the canning, milking (including training a new heifer and prolly having the shit kicked outta me), cheese and clabber making, etc. I'm enjoying my last couple weeks of sanity, while they last... o_O

I got my new (tiny) LG LED TV for the dungeon den today, so I took out that 20-year-old CRT Sherman tank (weighs about 50 pounds), assembled the new one (weighs about 5 pounds) and installed it, then spent about half an hour getting familiar with these damn new style controls (this fucking TV talks to me: "Your volume is now set at 51") and scanning all the channels so it would recognize the Dish channels. Different, but as long as it is not reporting my crude comments to the NSA, I suppose I can get used to it.
I wondered where that strange video on Youtube came from...

Volcanoes and hurricanes will sure mess things up. Which means, you can spend your days on paradise cleaning up after mother nature.

The eye of the storm has moved away overnight, thank goodness

It looked pretty bleak last night

Once we get our dome house built, we won't have to worry about 150 MPH winds as much

I'm convinced its the only way to go for the climate and what have you - just about all other animals that seek shelter live in domes or circular areas, whether they create them or seek it out: think bee hive, ant hills, beaver lodge, birds nests, where bears hibernate, cave entrances - all are circular

I think you'll like a dome home it will allow you to enjoy your life a lot more

It seems funny. When Phillip was talking about his dream home, he was talking about building a big square, and told me my idea of building a round house was stupid, even after I told him it would fair better against tornadoes than a big box would.

Interesting weather in your neck of the woods.

Well today I tried to repair my garage door opener to no avail....seems like it's not getting a signal from the wall button or the remotes.....anyway, after sweating my ass off in a 120 degree garage for about an hour....I called A1 Garage Door to either fix it or replace the opener tomorrow morning. If it's not one thing, it's another.
Replaced the whole kit and caboodle today....nother $1,260 down the drain......

I have one of those things on my shop door, but if that is the going price, if mine ever fails, I'll just disconnect it and push it up by hand.

I think we hit 80 today. By evening, clouds were moving up from the south, so I guess that high pressure is moving east (as expected).
Well, it's nice to have some decent weather once in awhile....!

Yup. I was supposed to work on wiring the pallets to the cow pen fence today, but my back was screaming most of the day, so I didn't do much. Gonna do monthly shopping tomorrow (I hope), so I think Lannie is going to attempt the pallet job while I am in town. I'll bring home Chinese...

Shanghai Garden is the only Chinese restaurant within 100 miles of us, and it's on my way home from shopping, so...
(it ain't the greatest, but better than any fast food place)

Well what were you up to today, Rich?
Very little because of nasty back pain. Luckily it let up a bit after dinner, so I managed to take the garbage out, fill the chicken bin, do evening chores, bring dog's meat into the house (from garage freezer), then crash for a while.

That list would take many many pages... tossing 90 pound bales of alfalfa up on a truck bed four feet up at 16 years old probably started it...o_O picking very heavy things up wrong while in the military didn't help... o_O falling off a cliff (several actually)... o_O crashing while skiing the black diamond runs... o_Ocoming off a dirt bike while winding it tight and trying to ride it UP a cliff face... o_O How many thousand more excuses would you care to read? :( So every disc is jerked out of position and the docs claim I have advanced degenerative disc disease with extreme stenosis in several places... L3 is actually broken, but the V.A. doesn't seem to think surgery will do much good, so I wear this girdle-like back brace a lot. The last back doctor I saw (a month of so ago) was expecting me to be another one of those people who had a complaint and was trying to get out of work (seems to be the norm these days - every snowflake wants disability pay so they can sit on their asses and still buy toys). He was absolutely amazed to look at my MRI and see what lousy condition I am in and have me complaining that I can't get enough work done.

So, back to the reason you asked that question: every now and then, I can barely get out of bed... it takes me a long time each morning to wiggle around and get things popped into place so I can put my pants on... and some days, like today, even the pain pills don't make the pain go away enough for me to get done what I planned to do (I was gonna wire those pallets to the cow pen fence, but I would have been lucky to just be able to walk out there, much less do the work). One of the things I hate to hear anyone say is "I can't," and I absolutely refuse to say that myself, but I find more and more lately that I get real close to saying it and instead use words like "It might take me a bit longer, but I'll get it done eventually." The day I quit trying is the day Lannie has to throw my useless ass in the burn barrel.

Well, no, I haven't. I looked it up the last time you mentioned it (or was that Lucy?). While Kratom is not a controlled substance (yet) and can be purchased on the internet (although it says "not for human consumption"), it can cause effects similar to both opioids and stimulants. Two compounds in kratom leaves (mitragynine and 7-α-hydroxymitragynine), interact with opioid receptors in the brain, producing sedation, pleasure, and decreased pain, especially when you consume large amounts of the plant. I figure if it just reacts with my opioid receptors and the V.A. is giving me an opioid already (albeit low dose), what's the difference? And here's my trigger: if it produces sedation and pleasure, it is affecting my ability to think more than the hydrocodone does, and it is my brain's functionality that permits me to mentally override the pain's attempt to keep me down. I do not want to become some helpless old bedridden POS who feels good but can't carry his own weight.

You got it all wrong....I used to take it daily, and work my ass off seven days a week. If anything, it provides much more energy than any opiate would. Hell, I was taking 120mg of oxycontin a day for years for chronic pancreatitis. Since I started with the kratom, my pancreatitis has seemed to go away or into remission, now I don't take anything. It's like a freaking miracle....after dealing with this shit for the last 10 years.

The good thing about kratom is you can toss the opiates away - and not have one second of withdrawals from the big pharma garbage. The next batch I get, I'll send you a care package, I finally found a good trusted source.

Does that come with destructions on how much and how often? :) So was it Lucy you were talking to before (why am I trying to put her in this?) and it had something to do with this new source... hers cost too much or wasn't as good or something like that... but, hey, if you are so certain this works, I'm willing to try....

Anyway, I gotta put my ass to bed now. Tomorrow will be a full day of shopping and I need my beauty rest. :D

I hope to experiment with growing my own Kratom in Hawaii

Mr Juicy is occasionally funny like that too :wait:

Drives me nuts!

Me: Hey, lets try that restaurant, it is supposed to be really good!

Mr Juicy: Eh, I don't know, blah, blah, NO

Next month:

Mr. Juicy: Hey, lets go to that restaurant! So and so says its really good!
