My step sister had a little baby girl, that no one could get her to sleep.
Well Sahara Grace "Gravy" used to come to either be dropped off for mom to watch, or she was there when my little bro and his then girlfriend lived with mom. Mom would have a fit in trying to get her to calm down, much less sleep. I'd come to mom arms out. "What you think you going to do that I can't?"
I just winked, carried her in and put that dvd on, sat in the chair, two chords would play. Gravy would look at the television, then cut her eyes to mine all big and happy. I'd sit rocking in the chair with her. About the time they sang Kingdom Come & Angel of Harlem she would wake, be rocking herself in my arms. Then, back out like a light.
I didn't much care for his girlfriend. She was one of these nurse what are allegedly nurse but well *cough*. He had issues with his lower back. Still to this day does. Has to sit very little or stand very little, takes forever for him to get comfortable in bed from the pain. I know for sure one night he asked if she wanted the back side of the bed or the outside. She said outside. He crawled to the back, just had figured out how to be comfortable. "Charlie, get up and turn the light off for me."
We figured out too she was supposedly on BC, but then took some kind of stuff for TB that killed the BC. She was looking to get preggers and hook him into marrying her. Charlie was not sure, just simply not sure, not ready for anybody much less her. He knew he wanted to do right by helping with Gravy. But this girl of his was to say the least, um, not nice.
Me & wife lived with mom about the time he & her did. Well, the house has a hallway to the right two doors for two bedrooms. to the left one door, straight on one door to the bathroom. It's a narrow hall like on a ship. I used to have the one door on the left as my/our bedroom. I got up and went to the bathroom from righ side door 1, right side door 2 was always mom's room. So, being all zomby-groggy, I turn and shuffle foot, lumbering on into left door apparently not quite realizing I was going in the "wrong" room.
I just remember hearing his girlfriend holler "what the Hell! God damn it, somebody get Benny!" Next I know, mom is guiding me back out of their room. she saw my eyes were "dead" "C'mon sailor, ya got your head mixed up with your port, you go starboard."
I grinned that dullard thousand yard stare grin, "huh, uh ... okay". So, i got back to the bedroom with my wife. the next morning Charlie tells me I scared his girlfriend half to death. I go to apologize. He spurts out "oh Hell, no. I want you to do it again, maybe you can scare her to death."
One of the things she did too was foul with the medicines he was on. He was taking some potent psychotropics for depression/stress from dealing with pain, her and just in general trying to keep a job while still shifting into disability to stay covered to help his kid. One of those drugs caused him hallucinations that were seriously evil. He asked me one morning. "You'd never do XXX and try to YYY me, would you?" I caught on and told him no. He nodded, "okay, bullshit stuff I'm on."
So he goes off of that. There were still a few left at the house. She took them and instead of disposing, she crushes them up and puts them in his food. I caught her at it once then she tried to call me a liar because I couldn't smell the stuff. What she didn't know, I could taste it. I pitched the plate of food she had made up for him. Handed him his plate. After that she realized I was not letting her fuck with my brother. She moved out, took Gravy.
My brother went to court and got visitation rights, even before she could think to file restraint orders. He told the judge he was Gravy's dad and wanted to do right by Gravy, he didn't care if his gf went on and shacked with whoever he just wanted stay Gravy's dad. The judge had the dna pulled, give him all rights but told him she knew that being his daughter's dad he wasn't going to exercise all rights. He agreed but wanted at least every other week end. Hell his gf kind of dumps her off with him any time anyway.
He doesn't mind at all. I think he might have complained once, simply because he had a doc visit scheduled. He caught himself, "C'mon Gravy, daddy's got to see the doc." He's never bad mouthed her mom to Gravy. But he has explained honestly stuff Gravy has asked and told her she's free to ask her mom. She told him she can see her mom's answers. Charlie grinned "there you go."
Well then, ...
