I'm not one to insult anyone's vape gear....but give that Smok Mag to the trash can and get yourself a better mod friend. There are way better ones for similar price points. I absolutely DETEST Smok anything. As well as do most seasoned vapers. Just friendly advice sykes199523...

<--- Been using a Smok alien since 2014. Smok has a bad rep ... and a lot of it is for good reason. But, I have never had a problem with their hardware. It's their sub-coil-heads that are wretched.
Edit: Ok maybe not 2014 cause I don't think it was released yet lol. but I bought it new from the first batch my local vape shop got in ... whenever that was

I used to like Smok hardware...the X Cube II was nice. The Alien isn't bad...but they flooded the market in the last couple years every week with substandard junk that doesn't last, with a shit warranty, and no customer support to unwitting newcomers with flashing lights and pretty colors. They forgot quality over quantity. My neighbor has had 6 of those mags in probably 6 months from the local B&M and still loves them. The owner (a buddy of mine) can't return them for warranty claim because Smok won't even respond to his wholesaler...

Well that sucks ... I got a Majesty Resin a few months ago and it has been just fine. It's not a GREAT mod. Doesn't seem to have a good power output, and the menu is janky. But it works as my "out and about" mod. But your right ... their QC and customer service are trash tier.
Odd ... I found I'm not really a fan of mohawks. Maybe I'll have to try some of yours. You puttin' crack powder on them or something?!?
Lol apparently so! My decore grip fingers are literally almost raw...I'm not a huge fan of the vape off Mohawks in most attys; but there are exceptions. But I'm good at building them and damn they look badass

Hello again guys. Been a minute and a half since I've been around :/ hows everyone doing? I'd rather not put my sob story up everywhere but I'll put these coils up for your perusal. All Alien variations as they seem to be the easiest thing for me to do now getting back into things now though so hopefully achieve something new soon

Good to see ya back! Funny thing, alien variations have been going around lately lol lots of enigmas stitches interlocks and stuff
I'm just worried about heat. With a couple more 32g cores it's going to pull it down to ~.09. And the ALL that wrap ... Don't get me wrong, I like a good hot vape. But that sounds like a little crazy to me. And, I'm sure the Alien will work. There is enough space. But I like my builds to be vapable as well as pretty. idk. I think I'm going to go for it anyways. I guess worst case It should be easy to peel out the inlay if it's a crap vape.
Thanks @chrisakasparky I'm still yet to achieve the more complex alien variations. Getting a bit more time to myself now though so it's time to get back to learning and not just spinning up stuff I know

The more I work with fine wire (30g+ cores and 40g+wraps) the more I feel like it's easier for most non complex things. The lower mass wrap means less tension on the cores. So, it's easier to keep them from twisting and collapsing.

Funny you say that, I was only mulling on the reason people say keep 10 gauges between wrap and core wire a couple of days ago and came down to the conclusion that it makes the alien wrap just sit in place easier. Less of a gap in gauges and the wrap wire can start to collapse multicore builds. Great minds and all that jazz haha

That is true to some extent. A lot of it is about aesthetic. A 10 gauge gap is just super pleasing to most peoples eyes. As well as the mass difference between the gauges helps a lot. But that is not to say you can't do anything else. I've done a 30/32 alien that turned out really clean and kinda cool looking. This is a 3x30g core with a 32g wrap. Ignore the rest. Was testing groove fuse applications.
Personally I prefer it without the inlay. That groove fused alien thingamajig looks cool as fuck

Not nearly as experienced as you guy. What exactly is an inlay? Maybe an alien then frame that and wrap again? I just love looking at the coils dissecting how they're possibly made. I still haven't tried an alien yet. Always wonder about the decore math.

See where there's a ridge in the alien? The inlay fits into that gap.
And with Aliens I pretty much always use the 3:1 ratio. The hardest part is the stretch and holding the right amount of pressure on while wrapping. If you measure your cores against the stretched decore it will be much easier. I tend to just eyeball it now and try to get the waves at around a 90 degree angle. I shall take some photos after of what I mean as I don't have any ready to upload.

Cool I appreciate it. I'd love to try an alien 100 times because I feel it'll take me that long to get it. I get frustrated easily sometimes. I really have the "looks good from my house" attitude sometimes.

Best advice I could give there is make LOADS of decores, don't stretch them and put them in an envelope. Much easier to keep cracking on at them when the decore can just be pulled out and stretched instead of changing your work setup back and forth. I found that to be the most frustrating part until I gleaned that information from this thread. Which I'm still eternally thankful for as it means whipping up Aliens are now no more time consuming that regular fusing.

The coil on the right is the same as the left just with a small alien "inlayed" into the indent.
Basic decore math is extremely easy.
*Standard alien is total width of your cores divided by 3.
Examples - 1)You have 3x 26g cores (.4mm each). .4mmx3=1.2mm ... 1.2mm/3 =.4mm. So you will decore off of a 26g. That is why 3 core aliens are what you see the most of because it's super easy.
2) The indented alien above is 2x 26g (.4mm) cores and 10x .3x.1 ribbon (the .1 is all that factors in since it will be the dimension contributing to the width). .4mmx2+1mm=1.8mm ... 1.8mm/3=.6. Well 22g (.64mm) is the closest so you would use that to decore from. ***I pulled the ribbon out after fusing to make the indent**
3) The inlay in the right pic is 2x 32g (.2mm). .2mx2=.4mm .... .4mm/3=.13mm. 36g is .13mm. So you would decore from that.
The difficult part is figure out the stretch. That ONLY comes from practice.

So with what you wrote there the Clapton would be done on a 22g? I'm sure I can figure it out with enough research. I've watched M Turk a bunch just never had the ambition to do it.

I have a curtain rod attached to a wall with masking tape around it to hold all my decores. Keeps them from getting tangled. You can't see it in this pic, but there's a piece of tape on the wall above these with the specs for each set.
When I say "decore from", what I mean is clapton around for your alien wrap wire, then you pull that clapton off and stretch it (or not stretch it if your good like that ... I am NOT good like that). So for my Example of (26x2)+(.1x10), you would take a piece of 22g and clapton whatever gauge you want around it. Then pull that clapton off of the 22g, stretch it, then re-clapton it around your cores. Also, on your initial clapton while making your decores, you have to run the drill in the opposite direction than you intend on making your final run with.

Yeah, that's called interlocking alien. Basically a paraclapton (parallel Clapton) that's used for Alien wrapping. One technique I still don't have down is paraclapton :/
