eBay Replacement?

I've been thinking about this for a time, and while you can still buy a HUGE amount of vaping gear on eBay, they are TRYING to get rid of it, or at least cut back pretty majorly. I can't tell you the number of items I've had in my cart that simply "disappeared" after a short time, and they weren't sold.

I'm working on improvements to this site, and will eventually move it (and all existing information) to a custom solution, but to get us going, I've created:

<-- Click!

https://mod.bid

If you use the code "grand" when listing, you will get free listing and images until September 22, 2014!

Add-ons are extra, and not free.

BTW, there are NO final sale fees. My listing fees are slightly higher than eBay's, but I don't take ANYTHING from your final sale value. You get it all, minus PayPal fees on your end, of course. For most items, that's 10% that WILL NOT be taken off the top. :)

Thanks for looking!

I will be building it into something a little more than what it is eventually, with more user-friendliness and features, but for now, it's open to post your items on. :)

Payment will be with PayPal (for now), and the only time you pay for listing an item is when you list it or re-list it, or when you purchase an item, and then you will be PayPal'ing the seller. Mod.Bid gets nothing, and you owe nothing further, buyer and seller.

Great for auction-style or Buy Out (Buy It Now).

I hope I've answered your questions well enough... :)

Looks like something the vaping community is going to need. Best of luck with the site. I bookmarked it and will use it for future sales.

Best of luck with your new endeavour!

You may wish to rethink your higher than eBay fee structure.

While I don't sell on eBay, I know folks that do and do it a lot.

And they are all complaining about the eBay price structure.

Just saying.................

Hi Uncle,

Just to be clear, the listing fees are a little more, but there is NO end-of-auction fee. eBay takes 10% off the top from your sale when you sell your item. Mod.Bid doesn't.

That adds up when you're selling a lot. I would have my listing fee as low as eBay's, but, as far as I'm aware, PayPal takes $0.30 away from all transactions, no matter how small. Getting $0.10 for a listing and subtracting $0.30 from it would make you go backward.

So I get $0.18 for each listing that does not have any add-ons.

eBay (when they're not offering free auction-style listings) gets I think $0.10 for your listing and for a $1.00 item sale price gets another $0.10. eBay and PayPal are part of the same company. They get their own fees. So they get $0.20. More if the item sells for more.

That's the only reason my listing fee is higher. I wish there were a way of getting around that $0.30 thing. :(

I wish you well in your endeavor - I got an offer from E Bay once to list 3 items and when they sold I would get $25 credit . I listed and sold 4 items and never saw the $25

http://corevape.com/ has been around for years. These sites never really catch on because they don't have the eyes that eBay has.

Mostly high end and legit stuff. The guy who owns it also owns the standard line of liquid.

Please don't count me out before I even get going, @VaporJoes

:)

Without looking at your post above, I'm having a hard time remember what that site was, though. Tomorrow, I know I won't remember. I admit that I have a poor memory, though.

I'll see what I can do about those fees. :)

Never let anyone stop you from what you like. A site like Vaporjoes was tried 3 times by other people and failed - then I came a long and made it work. Same with forums. Everyone said making a forum now was stupid.. well - I guess everyone was wrong! :D

Hi Donald,

I'm not sure why that would be. I always get notifications of a bounced email when they happen, and I did see that you signed up.

I've activated you.

I'll look into it. I have an idea, and if that's what it is, it's already being taken care of.

Thanks for signing up!

This is great, and I feel honored: My first online vape purchases were from a certain eBay store. That store has just signed up on Mod.Bid.

If they want to be known, I'll post their store name. :)

When I'd posted that, she hadn't listed anything yet and I didn't know if she wanted it known she signed up (I value my users' privacy), so I said it the way I did (I can see how it might seem ridiculous when people WANT exposure).

Anyway, she's posted several items now.

Thank you 510Central for taking a chance! :)

Yes I did, and I'm very impressed. It was easy peasy, I'll list some more good deals tomorrow.

Great idea but the text link is wrong at Https, it opens with Http and the image link also does not function. Good luck with this!

Ah, it got messed up when I added the little <-- Click text. It included that with the image in the link, and broke the link.

I've also fixed the text link, and it opens as https for me. If someone wouldn't mind checking that for me, I'd appreciate it.

Thank you, but I also thank those who have alerted me to my bad edits here on VU. :)

My first post has been corrected.

I like what you have done so far! The only suggestion right now is if you can change the background of the listings banner from yellow to another darker color. The white text over yellow is hard to read with my Samsung Note phone. I'm sure your bid site will grow. :-D

If you check it out again, I believe I've changed what you're talking about. If not, if you could post a link to what section you mean, I'll happily fix it. :)

Can you setup a banner or link in your signature? After you make a few bucks you should have a contest for a gift certificate to one of your new customers or something like that. I'm not sure how you do those social media contest apps we all play, lol. I'll play!

I like the color scheme now. Black text over light gray cells. It all looks professional.

I Like that idea! Once I get a few things worked out, I'll play around with my signature so it looks a little more obvious. :)

I had some issues with my monitor before this morning, so things looked a little wonky, but I believe I have those worked out now. It also helps that I'm getting suggestions from members. :)

I like the idea, and I can help with the site as well if you need anything. Was looking up your FAQ and About Us, but I guess you haven't gotten around to those yet...

I'd put another block/section on top of the Featured Auctions letting people know what the site is all about and how it works...

Yes, I had actually opened the site before I was originally planning, so I'm still coming up with a FAQ and About Us page, along with some other items/pages. Your suggestion about a bit of an explanation somewhere at the top is a very good one. I will implement that today.

I'm also working on a couple of other features that will greatly benefit multi-item listings greatly.

I'm still catching up with my husband starting his new 1st shift job yesterday. I don't like getting up that early...

Anyway, If there's anything I've said about Mod.Bid here that you think I should add to my welcome message (posted on the homepage if you're NOT signed in), I'd like to hear you out. I've discovered that people don't want to do too much reading...if I could be more concise, I'd like to hear that, too.

Thanks Everyone!

Welcome Message box is back on homepage.

I'm also working on a combined-shipping edit and tweaking and cleaning various areas of the site.

I'll be so much happier when it's all my own code.

Who are these Amazon vape gear sellers? I don't get a lot of hits with Amazon searches.
Do a Search for Kanthal wire. Then right below go thru Customers who bought this item also bought section Click on something close to what you want then look below at --Customers who bought this item also bought section. It will keep giving closer items to what you are looking for

I've listed a few things on http://mod.bid/ at sacrifice prices to help this site get off the ground. And there's more to come... If you haven't checked in you're missing out!

Thank you so much!

For everyone: Right now, with Voucher Code 'grand', all it will cost you is a few minutes of your time. :)

Sale will be extended. I'm messing with the layout of the site (not database) right now, and it can get a bit wonky at times. Database edits will be done on a separate development install with a new database.
