I received the Serpent elevate a week or two ago directly from wotofo for this writing. The following is an account of my experience with this tank.
The Serpent Elevate was designed in conjunction with Matt from “Suck My Mod.” It is the latest rendition of the collaborative effort that is the serpent series. I have had the first two serpent tanks; and, still use the serpent mini; however, I do not have the previous SMM version. The elevate is a huge advancement over the Serpent Mini.
Included in the package:
The RTA with straight glass tube
Coil trimming tool (not included in sample pack but will be in retail version)
510 driptip adapter -flush fit so all 510s fit nicely
PMA bubble tube
User manual
2 clapton coils (28+38x9+28+36 @3mm ID 0.33ohm)
Extra o-rings
Extra post screws(flat head stock are Allen head)
3mm laced cotton strips (2)
2 810 driptips
(1 acrylic wide bore tip- 9mm bore. 1 smoked, shallow bore 4.8mm bore)
Upon opening the package you are met with the above list of parts. I have to say, I was immediately blown away at the build quality of the rta; as well as, the pre-packaged accessories. What can I say, the satin finish is pretty sexy in my humble opinion. Gone is the high polish finger print magnet that are most tanks of yester-year. It comes with a nice media blasted finish in your choice of colors from black, gunmetal. Blue, ss, gold and rainbow. The one pictures is the SS. Out of the box you can expand the juice capacity with the included pmma bubble tank from 3.5 ml to 4.5ml. Not only are you able to expand the juice capacity; but, you are also given the ability to give the tank a slightly different look. I don’t use tanks much; due to my propensity to breaking glass. This tank is ideal for a person like me. I have already dropped it a few times. Thankfully I was using the PMMA tank; which, did not break under my recklessness. The glass tube would have certainly shattered. The tank is 24mm at its base, with the bubble tank it extends out to 27mm. It is 35mm high excluding the 510 pin and driptip.
To fill the tank, you unscrew the top and are met with two large kidney wells and a space for spillage. The design lends itself to be mess free in the event of spillage
As you can see the top airflow ring, has decorative knurling, made to resemble snakeskin. I’m not so sure how much it resembles snakeskin, but I do like the look of it. The airflow ring also has stopping points in both directions to avoid free spinning. The o-ring tension of the airflow ring, as the rest of the tensions, are ideal. It gives the ring a high-end feel; and ensures that it wont accidently move out of the set position under normal use. The airflow has two slots on both sides which then travel down the bell to the deck and then turn to go under the coil as well as the bottom side of the coil. The diagram below was supplied by wotofo’s website and will illustrate the airflow far better than I can describe here.
For another view you can see on the deck where the airflow comes in to meet the coil.
I find the airflow to be ideal for a restrictive direct lung hit. About what I would expect from a good single coil RTA. I was thankful to find the flat head post screws for the postless deck in the spares bag, and changed out the installed grub screws in the post I was using.
In the coil cutting tool, it is advised to use the 5.5mm cut slot, it looked like I cut my legs between 5mm and 5.5mm after trial and error to find the right height. As you can see I mounted the coil just above the recurve inspired side wall.
As in the recurve, the postless deck also offers you the convenience of allowing your legs to face any direction you would like for an easy build deck.
One thing I did need to figure out was the wicking. I have never used a tank like this, with the deck suspended above the base of the tank. What I discovered was that, because the wick is capillary dependent it is best to comb out the wick and slide the wick through the wick ring, and have it suspend in the juice well without touching the floor. This method proved to be best as I did not experience any dry hits, flooding or gurgling. Just a constant well fed coil for consistent vapor and flavor production.
