Anyone ever put a build in a goon lp? Gotta build some coils for one, just wondering if a couple staggered fused clapton would be to hot for the small cap
i found 2.5mm inner diameter is a nice fit. i settled into a regular alien build in it on a parallel box and its a nice vape imo. its a different style to the original goon, but its a nice smaller atty imo. make sure you have lots of leg to work with, you have to sorta guess the first couple times how much leg is required to bend down over the posts and have the coils in the right spots. dont use a staple variant until you sort that distance out because it can take a few bends to get right and staples dont bend so good

here is a question for everyone in here, regarding the 'official' threads. its nice to see the threads get stickied so they are easy to find, but they are kinda wrecking the main page of the coil building forum already because there are so many. i am planning to do at least one more, and anyone else who wants to is also welcome to start one (potentially there could be quite a few more). @KingPin! and i think it might be better to have one thread stickied, that contains links to the rest. i am happy to create, and maintain the thread and keep it up to date with whatever official threads there are to keep track of.

the question is, does everyone thinks thats a good idea? got a better one? as a result, the current stickies would all get unstickied. i am fine with the ones i started being unstickied, but i dont want to answer for @CrazyChef v2.0 or @Zohmbiebuilds, or anyone who is contributing to the threads (or anyone using them). the goal is just to clean up the front page of the forum and still keep the 'official' threads easy to find.

I have some good news for you. The person I made them for ended up not being able to vape stainless steel so I'm gonna redo them in Kanthal for that person. Would you like the stainless steel ones? I'm happy to send them out to you for no cost and shipping covered.

I don't mind. And I'm pretty sure Johnny Vapestand is okay with it, too.
Maybe a single "Official Coil Building Thread" or something. On the other hand, would a single stickied thread be TOO generalized?
yeah my concern was that people would miss the 'directory' thread when they were looking for 'alien' or whatever, so i am gonna have to think of a clever title, and make sure to include the proper tags and stuff for search efficiency. hopefully some of the regulars from outside the building area notice it and link future noobs to it when they see building questions as well. most of the official threads seem to be on the first or second page most of the time anyway (and people still miss them most of the time anyway lol).

We were thinking of a contents page of sorts with links to all the “official threads currently stickied” ...once created we can sticky the Contents page and unsticky everything else except the pre existing few that were up before the official threads were created

I dunno something along the lines of ...

Links to all “Official” build threads and “Related” topics

Any future threads created (believe shred and machine has something in the works) can then be added as well

Hey @KingPin! I'm interested in starting An official hybrid coil thread. I was holding off while working on some ideas for hybrid coils. Once I had a few variations that I was good at I was gonna ask you for permission to start the thread. I'd also like to hear from the builders! I'd love to know if they think if its a good idea and if there are enough builders with the ability/interest to make an official hybrid coil thread viable.

A build for my son's new squonker coming in the vape mail tomorrow. Fraliens. 2x28, 8x.5x1mm 36 alien (around 24 for that extra wavy goodness). I really wanted them flawless for my son to be able to show em off to his friends. Got pretty darn close I think. Shout out to @Pegleg Meg and @Shredtravolta for inspiring me to jump on the Fralien train. And also a shout to @scarecrowjenkins for keeping me building all these years when I was ready to quit after so much beginner failure the first couple months several years ago. Look at me now! Never thought these type coils would be within my grasp, much less laying on my build station by the dozens... *steps off soapbox*

In case you're wondering, @scarecrowjenkins saved my building life by praising a janky set of 32 over 26 SFCs I built and gently encouraged me to keep trying, try new coils, different gauges, etc. Just what I needed to keep my nose on the grindstone, and be patient, mastering more complex builds over time. Seems like yesterday I was a Master of the Universe because I could rip a Fused Clapton out in seconds. Now Fraliens are becoming a second nature. Thanks to the friends and support I found right here.

@VAPEROXX i am the same. i jumped into the thread when scarecrow was still quite active, and him and chef and ray patiently answered all my questions and pestering. without a couple people sharing experience and advice, im not sure if i would have taken as much of an interest as i did, and i certainly wouldnt have made as much progress as i have, with the time/wire i have put in. this thread is like a living thing, and people come and go, but the spirit stays the same

Shred all of the current ones that were created have been discussed in here prior and by popular demand...so if you have a guide for it, or others want to know more or can add tips and tricks then its worth making sure :)

Id say If its for picture purposes only then that is what this thread is for :)

@mach1ne might be worth listing things in descending order ...easiest coil builds at the top follow by the more advanced stuff

Then beneath it list out related topics such as photography and steam engine

They'll heat evenly, just quicker than the KA1 ribbon. Giving the same effect as a staged coil. I've done it a few times, and it works great!
agree, I like to throw a couple KA1 cores in with my N80 or SS as well. As you say, it's gives a nice staged heating effect. 2*28 N80 / 2*28 KA1 SFC with the inner 2 cores just plain round wire is one of my favorite vapes. or same build with 26g KA1 outers and N80 28g inner

inspired by an earlier build a few posts back and the semi-current talk of mixing wire types.

wraps opened up a bit much on one end during wrapping :/ should be fine though. now to stick it on the dead rabbit sq and try one last time to see if I can manage to coax some flavor out of it before I get rid of the God forsaken thing.

I wonder what would happen with say a couple of 24 ga. 316L or Ni80 cores wound with say a 36 ga. Kanthal Clapton.

With esspecially stainless having such lower resistance, but the Kanthal being the much lighter wire, it seems like the ramp up would sort of even out, wouldntw it?

Aghghgh!!!! It's ribbon, I need to cut off an end so it can bend and stretch, the alien wraps won't slide off like on round wire which is why I was gluing both ends!!!

:idea::idea::idea:

Wish I had realized this at around 10 am this morning:grumpy::grumpy::grumpy:

I'm gonna try again lmao

Bam, I WIN, RIBBON!

I figured I would post my build. Not as fancy as some I've seen on here. Still learning, only been trying to figure building out for a month or two. Wire is kanthal 26awg and 32 age Clapton. Store bought. Haven't tried to spin the wire myself looking for pointers on how. It's a dual coil build one coil 6 wraps and one coil 7 wraps. Inner diameter is 3mm. Read out at .73 ohm. Any advice on building and wicking techniques would be much appreciated. Thx

Should have the same number of wraps. But now sometimes one side will have 6 and if you flip the coil it's 7. But if it really two different wrapped coils one will heat faster due to less resistance

Thx Wtmke1 got the wrap count from steamengine. Might not be using it correctly as I'm just learning. I've been wondering why when I was figuring out how to build, it always says one coil has one more wrap. Ex: one coil 6 wraps then the other 6/7 wraps. Thanks again for the advice, it's always very informative when I can get answers from others that are building to.

Steam Engine gives you two possible coils that are close to target resistance - one with whole wraps - legs facing opposite directions - 6 wraps

The other is for a coil with legs facing same direction - 6/7

They have slightly different resistances, if you notice - it's just giving you two options for coil types (legs same side, or legs opposite side)

The 6/7 means you'll see 7 wraps on one side and 6 on the side with legs

Almost all atomizers with dual coils need legs going same way, so the 6/7 is the one you want (for Both coils)

Thx piglet meg. New at building so still learning. Still doing just basic coils but seen a lot on here I wouldn't mind trying just not to sure how yet.

Now with the 6/7 I count 5 full wraps and 2 half's being the legs which would make 6. Who knows. It's all pretty damn close. Lol

having one of those days/nights where cant stop screwing up. at least it's an improvement over the last f*ck up.. damn near slid the alien wrap off while cooling, but was able to slide it back on without too much damage.

2*26g outside, 2*28g inside, 36g alien wrap - all N80. 3.0mm ID ~.20ohm

when I'm making aliens, I just make sure the cores are straight, lay them side by side, hot glue one end, run my fingers down to the other end, and hot glue that end. not much tension on the alien wrap, so they stay flat. on other coils, I do the same thing, but use paperclips, small clothes pins, or a toggle thing from a hoodie to keep them flat. in all cases, you may occasionally need to use a pair of nylon tip pliers to squeeze them now and again.

Thanks a lot man gonna try those things next time. Keep on posting I haven’t seen some of the kinds of coils you’ve been posting. Where do you find nylon pliers besides online? Craft store?
