So I got my merlin today. It is bubbling on one side but not the other when I vape. Is that a wicking issue? Can I turn the rta upside down and remove the base if this is a wicking issue and not lose the juice?

It is quite normal for RTA's to only see bubbles from 1 side, no idea why, but it is, so as long as not getting dry hits, don't worry about it, but yes you can take the base off without draining the tank.
No dry hits. Thanks for the info. Great taste on this tank. Gets hot but my first spaced ss316l coil is great.

The bad thing is I lost the only o ring you can loose when I was cleaning it and they only give you one more of those. Learning experience...won't happen again when I get another.

Put the 3 x 1 mm o-ring into the hole in the 510 as far as it will go, place the two 2 x 1 o-rings on the exposed threads of the copper screw. It works for me.

With all the tweets I hope you can buy o rings from somewhere, one day. I'm sure these aren't just rubber o rings.

Question for those of you that don't experience a leaky base. What ratio juice are you using? I know one person uses max VG, she gets leaks. I run higher PG, but not a max PG and I get leaks, but I can't tolerate much VG, either. I've experimented with wicking, I've experimented with the JFC, I use the adapter because I'm a MTL vaper, but short of trying that o-ring thing posted a few posts before, nothing is working. I'm about ready to shelf this tank. Phenomenal flavor, but I'm seriously tired of having a sticky tank, mod and hands.

I have two Merlins, one that has a loose air flow ring and has never shed a drop of juice that I know of and the other that is on spec and has leaked for a while. My juice is at least 90% PG.

Most of the time it leaked after filling, though a few times it seemed to go on for quite a while. Not much after a while, just a couple of drops. Since I started turning the tank upside down when I finish screwing the top cap back on the leaking seems to have stopped. I'm not sure this is what actually fixed mine of if my wicking might have off or it was something else. I should really try to recreate it and figure out what really is going on, but I've been happy with it the last few days so my motivation to do that is not high.

One thing I've learned over the years: don't fuck with a perfectly functioning atty. You will regret it

Yup, I try not to fuck with anything that is working properly, but sometimes I just can't help myself

:)

Hahaha. Been there, done it. Almost always regret it.

With that said, I was thinking about recoiling all my stuff tonight even though all of it is behaving properly.

I should wise-up and make some juice instead :ejuice:

With my two Merlin's I don't even shut of the juice flow when filling, just take the top off, fill and put the top back on. No leaking at all using this method, one has a 50/50 juice and the other has an 80/20 VG/PG.

Just installed a 4 strand 28g SS430 coil in my black Merlin, twisted two strands together, then twisted two pieces of that together in the opposite direction as per @dwcraig1's recommendation. This is an excellent coil providing top notch flavor and vapor production at 400F/50W on the VT133.

Highly recommended! The coil is a bit spongy though so torching it a little will be required.

Product page listing QC... boo.

As far as the "seepage", I really don't think it's condensation. It's too concentrated. I'm still getting it. For 2 fills, I didn't, but it's happening again. It's not like half a tank at a time, but it's enough to be seriously aggravating. Especially when you don't think about it for a bit and have a mess to clean up on your mod and hands.

Yes, I agree. Mine seems to be coming from between the airflow adjustment ring and the base, as there is a perfect circle of liquid around the outer diameter of the base.

I don't understand what's up with my Merlin. The tank works good (no leaking, juice control is easy to move, etc). My problem is I get almost no flavor. I have three different tanks set up with the same juice, coils made of the same wire (SS430), same wicking material (JOC). The Aromamizer Supreme has great flavor, the Billow V2 has ok flavor, the Merlin almost tastes like I'm vaping unflavored juice. Something is wrong here.

PS I've tried positioning the coil higher, lower, and everywhere in between and nothing seems to help.

Cheers,
Steve

Did you take out the piece that resticts airflow?

What ohm are you using? Is there enough surface area?

Air restrictor is removed and in the box.

Right now I have a .29 ohm twisted SS430 coil in it. I've had single strand up to 1.06 ohms in it. I've tried smaller diameter 2.5mm up to 3.5mm and from 6 to 10 wraps. Honestly I keep reading it's a great flavor tank but mine isn't. I'm starting to wonder if something is wrong with mine or if it's just me. This isn't my first rodeo, I've been building RTA's for at least 4 years. Still I'm not saying I couldn't be doing something wrong, just trying to say I know my way around RTA's. I'll keep trying, but I'm starting to get discouraged.

Cheers,
Steve

I am an oring junkie and happen to have a bag of each of these. Just set up one of mine that has been seeping. Will let you know if it works for me. Just filled the tank. Will vape it down and see what happens.

Where exactly will you see the leak?
as there is a perfect circle of liquid around the outer diameter of the base.
^^^^^^^^^^^ that, and it's on my mod, too. If I don't see it quickly, it runs down my mod. I take a tissue inside the 510 and that part is dry.
Since I started turning the tank upside down when I finish screwing the top cap back on the leaking seems to have stopped.
I used to do this, too. I close off the JFC, fill it, recap, turned it upside down.... leaks. So I was trying it without turning it upside down. It stayed dry for 2 fills then started up again.

I'm bummed. Flavor has been fantastic - airflow adapter in place, super simple spaced coil on 28g about 1 ohm with 70pg. I've considered that it's from the heat of summer making the juice super thin, but even max VG peeps are having the issue. I've tried the JFC partially open up to wide open. Doesn't seem to matter.

No leaks at a 80/20 vg/pg ratio. I stuff all the wick end in the cup to the bottom then go from outside the feed hole and push it back up leaving a little sliver of wick still all the way down pressed against the back. I was having very modest leaking before I started doing this. I do also have a LOT of wick with my big coil IDs.
