Sooooo, just finished up a 5" piece 3x26 Mad Rabbit Staggered with 36/36. Ever make something then you realize you have no idea what your going to do with it?

Always. I have hundreds of coils made because I like making them more than I can use them. No idea what to do with them all. Maybe sell some or give them away or whatever. My coils usually last a long time in my set ups (or I use them until either they break or I feel like changing them lol.)

Many Many Times....thats why I started having Ideas for Jewelry :D

I don't think what I did is going to work. 5 wrap 4mm comes out to ~.15-.16. Super looooong ramp up on on just the one coil. Rx isn't reading the Buddha so I can't hit it with megawatts so that's that. Think I'll put the one coil away and wait for the VC600 and hope it fires under .1.

I tried it. It does seem to be the optimal amount of stretch for wrapping the cores and having them fall in line easily, but I just cant get 3 cores to stay in line to save my life. I always wind up with a shitty pyramid and that throws off the spacing and the lining up. Ive tried using shit like paper clips (or similar) and tying them up, but they always bunch. Its frustrating lol.

The whole coil making thing is frustrating for me. Ive never had so much trouble with adapting to something new. Everything else I pick up as a hobby I seem to either have a nice run of beginners luck, or I just fall in line and adapt easily. But coil wrapping? Fuck me, Im having a hard learning curve

If you are pulling the wrap wire too hard that will happen. It needs to lightly slip through your fingers, nothing like wrapping a fused clapton or similar coil... just enough so you can hold it at the right angle without it popping out from your fingers. Will also happen if the tension on your cores is uneven, if one has a bit of slack it will curl around and make a triangle on you.

What is this VC600? Is it just the board? Or are they putting out a 600 watt mod? I WANTS IT!

Finally, after many tries, I got the fused staggered claptons to wrap perfectly with no jumping or skipping. Its really a bitch to get it to set in the right groove on every single wrap, but I figured out what my problem was. I was trying to wrap too long a length at a time. I could get the first and last 3 or 4 inches good, but in the middle it would start fucking up. So I cut the size down a bit and it came out really good. Stoked.

Ive seen this a while ago but the was asked to try building it this morning, so after coming back from dropping off the kids at school I had a go at the Metal Snake Spine....My polishing Gear never came so instead I decided to Flatten the build to achieve the same result...

Reminds me of the annoying scorestreak called R.A.P.S. on blackops3 that go's around spinning and destroying your day.
Nice work!
Is the other side of the wire flat without the mohawk?

Just thought I'd share this for everyone who owns a Authentic Goon or the Clone with the Goon sized tip.
Search Kennedy Dragon Tip on Ebay for a wide choice of Colors, Sizes and width of the same tip the Black Goon Comes with for $12...

I know but this tip is the exact same as the Black Goon Tip which you cant buy or get unless you buy a black goon...This is why I posted this, I didnt think that they made Kennedy tips that big but they do!

With 40g/44g for the Stagger and Fuse its pretty damn difficult getting a perfect stagger ;) Just a single coil takes almost a hour to fuse just because how much filling is needed.

Im not sure if I grabbed the Good coil or not...one was great and one sucked...Ill go look and see, brb...

I used the Crappy Coil it seems...

I was just tryin to feel better about myself and my own fucked up staggers:cry:

lol
Dont worry it gets better....this build I wasnt even trying to stagger...I claptoned the 26g like normal then did the decore trick that you use for aliens but I didnt remove the core. I stretched the clapton a bit and then pinched it with pliers at the ends to keep it where I wanted it. Then I bent the length in half, it still has play so it can be moved around or adjusted while fusing....I didnt do the Tamer Method or Loop on this one, maybe thats why it wasnt completely perfect but 40g is hard to space while ensuring its the proper space the while length...

Decided to try aliens out again now that I have a bunch of new stuff for my build setup. The one or two times I tried these before was nowhere near this, so even though they couldn't be wrapped and installed I'm very happy with the results. This was more for practice and to see if I could get it.
This alien would have been good, but my cores got twisted somehow. I had them taped, attached to the swivel and was using a small paperclip to hold them parallel, but still went wacky. Will be trying again tonight.

This was a Mohawk alien attempt.. and about the only good section lol. I think after a few more tries I'll have my technique and the feel for leading the alien wire.

Dont use a Paperclip, If you have some Ribbon wire wrap a few loops around the cores and lightly pinch it with nylon pliers...so far this is the best tip that Ive tried

yeah the pinching of the ribbon that you are using to hold your cores straight is an important step that i missed on my first couple tries. i dont have nylon pliers so i just wrap mine in duct tape and go easy. the pinch really sets them in place though. my other problem was that starting and stopping the drill is a source of little mistakes and i inherently wanted to avoid that, so i was trying to work in too large of an area. it really is much better only working on an inch or so at a time (an inch between the stuff you just wrapped and the ribbon thats holding your cores straight). also, dont forget to lightly pinch the stuff you just wrapped every time you slide your ribbon out of the way. pinch the ribbon again too every time you move it.

edit - @Iliketurtles or anyone else have any other math calculations for coil building? i am pretty new at this stuff and im just starting to get a feel for how much of x = y and stuff like that. i still usually get an odd number of coils, or end up with a couple feet of extra stretched alien leftovers, or 4 inches of unclaptoned cores when i run out of wrap too soon :|

I left an important thing out of mine, the relationship between the core wire and wrap wire sizes. However its still a good starting point so I didn't change it - I don't mind who knows I am stupid :D When I tested it was with 26 / 34 and worked fine but I don't do aliens all the time like some people do. I have nothing between 34 and 40 now and I can't alien 40 anyway it's too thin for me to hold lightly....or see properly. I did one with the last of the 36 I had on 28 cores and that worked but it was only enough to make one coil.

the relationship between the core wire and wrap wire sizes
i wondered about that too. so far i have made 26/32, 26/36 and 28/38 aliens and never had a problem as long as my wraps started on the same size core that they will finish on. i wonder if you can do something cool by using different gauges for your wrapping cores and your final cores (like a way to always get a perfectly consistent prometheus/mohawk??).

i think im going to try stitched or interlock aliens next (hell maybe stitched interlock lol who knows). is there a performance reason for either of those techniques, or is it just for looks? it kinda feels like neither of them should be as good as regular aliens at wicking but wtf do i know?

@raymo2u is that snake spine coil a flattened stagger fused or is there more to it? thats one of the coolest ones i have seen yet.

There a bit more too it then that, you could do that but you wouldnt get that edge.
Steps:
Clapton a Piece of 22g with 36g.
Decore and slip a piece of 26g in the 22g Clapton
Fold the length in half and fuse it with 36g.
You can hammer it very carefully, use a roller or other flattening methods now, be careful not to screw it up!!!
Then pull the length of wire through some toothless pliers holding the wire flat between the jaws.

This is how you make that Female Metal Snake Spine, The Male Metal Snake Spine you do one side up and one side down.

A lot of builds don't make a better vape. They are done to make a cool picture or just for the hell of it, I like to see them but I never build any like that. Once people can flawlessly build all the vape coils they often go onto the technical ones because they like to build stuff and they have the time for it so we get to see all their cool stuff. There is a beauty to a perfect fused clapton, a perfect framed staple or a perfect alien....but once you have seen one, you have seen them all.

yeah thats what i figured. there are reasons for some techniques though. another core in that plain clapton will really take it up a notch, or alien wraps compared to normal for wicking...

i am at the point now where i want to learn how to make them all just for the sake of it. i find this stuff helps keep me sane sometimes. even just wrapping up basic coils when i first started felt good. if i can put my mind and hands to work on this stuff, they dont have time to be bad ;)

I know this is very noob of me, but I just finished this lol. First alien coil 26/36N80 Had just enough for these 5 wraps, so I think I know how much wire to use next time. Since my Goon can only do single coils at the moment I'm going to cage it.

So to you crazy coil artists... what's your favorite vape? Pretty is awesome, but functional is better :D
I've been enjoying the groove-fused claptons a lot, but you can never go wrong with a nice fresh set of aliens. Most of these coils are well worth the effort, they all intensify the flavor in different ways. In my experience very few coils were not worth the trouble

I hear that, but everyone's got to have a favorite, and some of these, maybe I'm just not getting it, but functionally they seem like they'd be a step backwards compared to others. Like the corrugated stuff looks awesome, but is it really better than a simpler fraple?
