The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild doesn't feature the option to play as a female hero, and series producer Eiji Aonuma has come forward to explain why.
In an interview with GameSpot at E3 2016, Aonuma acknowledged the rumors of a female Link, noting that the team "did discuss as a staff as to what would be possible if
took that route."
But instead of exploring the possibility of a female Link, they considered making Zelda the hero. "We thought about it and decided that if we're going to have a female protagonist it's simpler to have Princess Zelda as the main character," he said.
