Hard to see but it almost looks like it's soldered?

Weird...usually peeps will hot glue or epoxy stuff like that.

Yes I initially thought soldered. But that wouldn't be strong? Maybe it's putty that been painted. I really don't know.

If it was a cold soldered joint, it wouldn't be strong at all. Is it metallic?
Could just be epoxy. As you now know, that can resemble the hardness of steel. ;)

I use a 2 part epoxy at work to fix bearing races that is harder than the steel it is replacing .

I'd like a pot of that. Just to add, there are lots of adhesives which go very hard. But it's also about finding something that'll also take, especially if you're bonding two different materials together.
