I remember seeing some where someone using screws to wrap coils to keep the spacing even.

I was just wondering if anyone here did that and what size screws they use?

Has anyone tried this method with ni200 wire?

Thank you

There are a number of people that swear by that method but I have not heard of any that use with Ni200 wire.

I don't know of any charts for the combination of screw diameters and threading so you may just be on your own here.

But I would like to be proven wrong on this.

It seems that most ni200 builds have the wraps spaced apart. and people say it is a pain to work with....it just gave me the idea of the screws.

I've done it, it works, but you need a screw with fine threading if you want the coil to be tight, but evenly spaced.

And that is exactly what I thought you were talking about my friend. Just an idea, you may wish to use a thicker gauge of wire so it keeps its shape while you are installing your wicking material.

carefully wrapping your nickel coil on a smooth mandrel such as a screw driver, and gently pushing your coils into the handles end, will allow your nickel coil to spring back and be suprisingly even spaced...
the screw method works well with the screw that your electrical switch box has that fastens the faceplate to the box (not the switch plate one)..

I've been using a 3mm screw thats been working pretty well!! surprised there aren't any coil makers for ni200 wire!!

so whats better, evenly spaced wraps or a tight coil ?
If anything try a 4-40 size screw. Many lengths, might be a little easier that the electrical box screw.

I've used a 4-40 machine screw a few times. Even spacing, yes, but wasn't the best for me. I stuck with a 5/64 drill bit.
