Turtleship locking ring stuck

So i trade a mod for a turtleship from a friend. He didn't like that the button was sticking out and would fire in his pocket. The spring supports the weight of the mod and atty but in his pocket it fired. I traded him and seen there was a locking ring and it was just stuck. Any help on getting it unstuck? How about is there any way to tell if its authentic or not?

What I've done for stuck locking rings, or my stubborn Aqua's tank, is to wrap a rubber band about the same width as the ring around it and hold it tight.

It'll give ya the grip help you need, without marring the finish. Just don't turn it the wrong way, or it'll be worse. ;-)
