What is Spider-Man: No Way Home About and How Does it Fit Into the MCU?

Spider-Man: No Way Home picks up after the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home and will deal with the fallout of the public discovering that Peter Parker is, in fact, Spider-Man. The official synopsis from Sony Pictures is as follows;

“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero's identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.”

No. Longtime Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal has reassured fans that Tom Holland will continue on as Spider-Man following No Way Home.

“This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel – [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie," she explained. "We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel, it just isn't part of… we're thinking of this as three films, and now we're going to go onto the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies."

What Villains Will Be Returning for Spider-Man: No Way Home?

With the Multiverse opening up, villains from alternate universes are arriving in the MCU. So far, it has been revealed that Willem Dafoe’s Norman Osborn/Green Goblin from Spider-Man, Alfred Molina’s Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2, and Jamie Foxx’s Max Dillion/Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be three of these villains to make their way through after Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange appear to open the gates of the Multiverse.

While not explicitly confirmed, we have also seen teases that Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman and Rhys Ifans’ Lizard will return in No Way Home.

Will Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield Be in Spider-Man: No Way Home?

A big question from fans during the development of Spider-Man: No Way Home has been whether Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will appear as their respective versions of Spider-Man in the film.

Tobey Maguire, of course, starred in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and Andrew Garfield starred in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 1 & 2.

With the tease of these old villains returning and the opening up of the Multiverse, many are hoping the two actors will join Tom Holland on the big-screen as alternate versions of Spider-Man. Andrew Garfield has denied in the past that he has a part in the film, but actors have been known to lie when their involvement in projects that would ruin a special surprise.

One of the more recent hints that these two actors could be making their way back to the big screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe came by the way of a Brazilian Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer. In the Brazilian trailer, the scene where Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is facing off against many of the previously mentioned villains runs a bit longer than in other regions. In it, we see Lizard being struck by... something invisible. This has led many to speculate that either Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield has been edited out and will be there in the final film.

Will Charlie Cox’s Daredevil Be in Spider-Man: No Way Home?

There had been rumors swirling that Charlie Cox, the actor who played Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the character’s MCU Netflix series, would be joining the cast of Spider-Man: No Way Home. In April 2020, Cox denied these rumors by saying, “I hadn’t heard those rumors, but it’s certainly not with my Daredevil. I’m not involved in it.”

Recently, Kevin Feige confirmed that Charlie Cox will remain the MCU’s Daredevil, and many are wondering if that means we will see his character fighting alongside Spider-Man in No Way Home. We won’t have long to find out!

Will Venom Appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home?

Tom Hardy’s Venom joining the MCU has been requested by fans for quite some time, and while Venom: Let There Be Carnage gave them a glimmer of hope, there are those who wonder if he will also be part of the ensemble cast of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

In September 2021, Hardy was spotted wearing a Spider-Man: No Way Home hat. While there could be millions of reasons why he chose to wear that hat, fans have pointed out that the hat he chose is similar to the one worn by the cast and crew of No Way Home.
