I'm just not seeing any app root the newer phones, now if the phones are already rooted maybe it could do something, but since android 4.0 very few all in one apps have been around. A computer is needed to gain root permission.

I definitely get your point but...
Mighty hard to question the credibility of Ars Technica.
Numerous devs haven't been able to execute an all in one, new systems must have a tethered system and run adb. It doesn't mention android version in the article. Froyo to kit kat (1-4.4 )have one clicks. Higher 5.0-6.0 not happening. Even if a program was installed the updated bootloaders would throws flag and the phone wouldn't boot until it was repartitioned.
Even with older android scripts the phone must reboot more than once. I refuse to believe that can go unnoticed.
