No stranger to exploring the tragedy on film, Michael Pena recently explained to IGN why he wanted to return to telling the stories surrounding 9/11, the most devastating terrorist attack in US history, in his new film 12 Strong.
In 12 Strong he stars alongside Chris Hemsworth and Michael Shannon to tell the story of the first U.S. Special Forces team deployed to Afghanistan the day after the events that shook the world.
“I think it's a very important part of American history and something that you hope people don't forget about,” he told IGN. “This is a different part of that history. World Trade Center, the 9/11 movie I did with Nicolas Cage about those two guys trapped underneath all the rubble and then somehow miraculously being saved, that was its own story. This one is about after the towers came down, what these 12 guys volunteered to do literally the following day and how they went into a region that very little was known about.”
