39 years of smoking... thx to vaping, I'm now over 2 and a half years smoke-free. Vaping is the ONLY thing that has EVER worked, because it's NOT a "stop smoking" product, it's a DIRECT REPLACEMENT. All that snake-oil that pharma sells, they claim that it "removes the urge to smoke", which is total and complete bullshit; if you've smoked for a couple or 3 decades, that urge will never leave you, period. So it's necessary to find something that will satisfy that urge and NOT kill you -- enter vaping.
Some say, you have to really want to quit; some say, they quit by accident, because vaping made them forget to smoke. I found neither of those to be *completely* true, for me, but somewhere in the middle: I wanted to be a non-smoker, for a long time, I just didn't want to suffer to get there -- I wanted to walk across a bridge, not hot coals on bare feet -- and THAT is what vaping gave me. You do have to be motivated to CHANGE, because vaping is not *exactly* like smoking... it's a great substitute, but if you don't go along with the process, then it won't MAKE you do anything; you have to give yourself to the process and do whatever is necessary to make vaping work FOR YOU. It WILL NOT "remove the urge to smoke" -- after 2 and a half years, I still feel that at times; so I vape, and completely forget I ever thought about smoking. This is why when people say they're going to quit smoking by vaping, and then quit vaping, I usually laugh at them, and tell them vaping will still be here when they're ready to quit smoking again.
Quitting smoking is really just a great side effect of vaping, but if you go into vaping thinking it's a magic wand you'll wave and the "urge to smoke" will disappear, you're bound to be disappointed. To quote Don Henley: "How bad do ya want it?" If you're looking for a magic wand to MAKE you do something that you don't really want to do... keep looking for the sparkling little fairy. If you'd like to replace smoking with something that isn't deadly, then vaping may be just the ticket. And even if you vape for years, get down to zero nicotine and everything... if you quit the replacement, then you'll more than likely want to smoke again.
