Got a day off today and the sun is shining bright! so gonna wander round the city and look for an excuse to spend some money (not a lot though) on something irrelevant and uneeded, which is part of the point of living, to enjoy the fruits of your labours.

@Hobby Kid right on man, enjoy! Me, I gotta work for a bit, ATM I wish I was vooping, but I'm gonna go for a run, so I'm saving the vaping for after. I won't elaborate, though it's obvious what I'm doing now :)
i thought vooping was when you take a pic of your mod between your breats lol
Yeah, there's nothing like a post workout vape. the first thing i do at the gym after a run is pop down to my locker and have a quick toot. it just seems to taste doubly nice !

Just got back from the trails. I saw a buck with some huge antlers, it's rare to see anything but does, so that was cool. About to do some prep for work, and have a vape!

Did you enjoy your post-run vape .. what did you vape? I just bought some asics gel-excel33 2. They're so well cushioned it's like bouncing on a mattress.

Hell yeah, i enjoyed some butter pecan from vista vapors, probably full of diacetyl.

Ill have to look up those shoes, are they neutral? Im currently on my third pair of Adidas Supernova Glide 6 Boost's. They are a neutral shoe, and the boost cushioning is soooo awesome. I run in subzero temps in the winter, and one of the best things about it opposed to EVA is that they dont get affected by temp, so they aren't rocks in the cold. I cant recommend the boost line enough, its compressed TPU foam i believe, and it's not a gimmick. They have soles made by Continental Tire, and i do push my shoes to 500 miles like an idiot sometimes. They are the only shoe that i haven't worn through the outsole, even at 500 miles.

Gotta go work now. See ya on the other side.

diacetyl.. what's that ;) the asics are have support for pronation and good for 500+ miles. Best to google reviews. I've been using asics for a few years now since their kayano 17's. But was recommended today by a long distance runner some Adidas Glides. They didnt appear to have any pronation support though but they're still good for long distance and high speed finishes like the asics.
Enjoy work. Don't forget spare juice and batteries.

Oh... I always bring two full kayfuns, but rarely a spare battery. I am a contract worker and deliver food, i mainly handle one huge account that requires work at home, so now for instance, I'm probably done for the day, delivery wise. I get huge tips from them, and i pick up odd jobs on the side. I Dont like leaving batteries in a hot car, but i do bring a spare sometimes, i rarely get below 3.9-4.0 chain vaping on the road anyway.

If you ever check out the adidas, make sure they have the boost soles. They have a model with pronation support, a couple neutral ones, and a racing one. Asics and i dont seem to get along, though they are great shoes. My sister swears by them. Once you find a shoe, youve found your holy grail. Ive been known to buy multiple pairs on clearance when they update models, since the update might make them awful for me.

Ive been fighting plantar fasciitis since my last marathon, may 2013 :( and its hell. I used to wear fucking motion control tanks of a shoe, but my gait improved, so now im neutral, with inserts. I corrected my biomechanics and no longer overpronate. PF fucking sucks. I took a month off and it didnt heal. Ive done everything. Its worst when im not running, especially using a clutch. My feet are on ice atm, and at this point im so used to the pain, its just life. Ice ice ice, and compression socks are essential.

I had to pull out of the marine core marathon next month, the second year in a row from it, thats registration, and a deferment fee from last year down the drain. I can still speed through 5 10ks a week at the minimum, but i miss my long runs. It seems every runner gets bitten by P.F. At some point, and its a bitch to get rid of.

And i agree with you and celtic, running shoes get recycled into my daily shoes... Theyre the best.

End essay, i type so fucking much.

well, i'm 46 and been running since i was 15yrs old. never got plantar fasciitis. they also said i'd have trouble with my knees after the years pass - but all's still ok on the western front. in my experience pf occurs by not taking a good rest after long runs. thing with marathons is you push yourself harder than a normal run. and the urge to get back out there to soon. i've been fortunate to have personal trainers guide me through my running life. their advice really sinks in regardless of age or gender. i fought a young 24yr latino girl a few years ago and fck she was fast!! we have some instructors half my age at my gym who really know their stuff and still feel i learn from them. black belt this is my current personal trainer. real tough woman!

@Hobby Kid , you've got quite the trainer there. Wow. And you are correct, p.f. Is definitely an overuse injury. I got it from running a 20 miler then a 6 mile recovery run the next day. I was fine, until I stubbornly ran again the day after that, sure enough, that did it. I am certain that was it. I've seen specialists, and do most of the stuff for physical therapy, but even they say it's a crapshoot regarding taking time off. My current plan, which I've been doing for a bit is to strengthen the plantar, and my calves and shins, effectively trying to eliminate the causes, rather than just treating the symptoms. Otherwise it will always just come back, part of why I'm in a neutral shoe now.

Sorry dude she needs WORK. that last bout of kicks to the pad she has had some shit instruction and has a more than a few seriously bad telegraphs and habits.
First off I always believe in train how you will fight. Since she is wearing shoes her ankle/foot control vs. power will cost her some destruction with someone with half a clue... trying to remain upright with a shattered foot/ankle is not going to happen.
Her dropping of her primary defense hand is more than enough of give away a kick is coming but leaves her wide open for facial abuse.

Just saying.

I should point out I have not competed in any real fashion but studied a few styles and more than a good fair share of street altercations to realize what works and does not.. every fight is going to go on the ground at some point.

hey that's ok. that's what discussion is for. if you're gonna say that then you'll clearly have experience in the discipline yourself.

Yes a few.
the flat ankle approach is an awesome way to cutting your training time short and on the recovery list, in a self defense situation a broken face from breaking your ankle and the attacker walking all over you is another thing.

While speed is a good thing, and so are spinning and big kicks in practical applications it will get you crippled or dead quickly. The last real big skirmish I had while bouncing I had someone with a half a clue come at me with a flying kick... it ended quickly and badly for them.

i don't actually do all that. I'm a runner. but i do boxercise with her. i count my feet and ankles too precious to go kicking. but we do a good workout out and it's strengthening my triceps. thing with running is your lower half is incredibly strong but your upper body is totally pants if you don't balance your training. i was kicking when we first started but my shoes are too expensive. it felt like i was going to rip them lol so no, just hitting pads, either straight punches and combinations etc or situps and punching pads

@Hobby Kid , how does you moves my posts likes thats? ;) Good idea man, I was thread jacking, unintentional, but my bad.

Seems you and @BigNasy have some fighting training? Pretty cool.

I'm gonna be interested to see how many people we have here that exercise. We all are here because we decided to improve our health after all.

Never too late to start. I became sedentary and ate like shit after high school, which combined with no more sports, and I was up to 300 pounds four years ago. Now I have to stuff my face to stay half that. I only mention that since I always ignored people telling me to exercise, and now that I do, I fucking love it. There truly is a runners high.

Lol. Right on man. That's what I fell in love with the most quite possibly regarding running. It's never easy if you're pushing yourself, but your mind is so powerful. As I progressed, it truly shocked me how strong the mind could be, and what it could help you accomplish. Very empowering and confidence building.

i'm now disappearing for a while as it's 23.00 here and i'm up early tmrw. someone's coming round early to pick up my exercise bike. i had it sitting around doing nothing and i was going to bin it and then i thought what the hell. i'll put it on ebay as "Buyer Collects". it was free to list too. it sold tonight in less then 24hrs. cool huh. cycling is not for me. it hurts my legs. its a very different exercise to running.

Trust me throwing proper kicks and punches correctly is one helluva work out, it also helps you out to how your body balances.

Spent the afternoon in the gym. I got there early to miss the crowd. Why is it when you've got two really long rows of "empty" treadmills that someone always comes along and runs next to you. Get another treadmill man! You're giving off heat! I'm well and truly done for the weekend now. This is the upstairs part of my gym btw

I took an off day and have been icing a ton. Rolling a frozen water bottle watching football and a vaping ATM. I feel fortunate not to have to rely on a gym, hobby, that's gotta suck to have someone do that. I also have an inability to run on treadmills, I constantly think I'm about to fall off the back lol. True story, never happened, but it's distracting.

Im in the middle of suburbia, but two blocks from a large state park with an abundance of trails. It like entering another world in a matter of minutes. All I have to do is push through weather, but that I can handle.

What is "rolling a frozen water bottle"?

I was running the seafront up until a while ago but it's starting to get cold now. Very icy winds here on the south coast. And people! They can't walk in a straight line lol there's enough stress whilst running without having to deal with that. There are trails here but I live in the west end and have to wade through people for half hour before reaching them.

I once used to consider moving up north where there's the hills and wilderness purely for the sake of fell running and stuff. Might still do. Who knows. You only live once. The good thing about the treadmill is it makes you keep up the pace. Nice girls at the gym too ;) Oh btw, I wore my asics for the first time today. They were very kind on the end of my toes :)

Glad you enjoyed the Asics! Gotta love new shoes. And I'm sure the ladies are a nice benefit of the gym.

I meant I was rolling a frozen water bottle back and forth under my plantar fascia. The pressure helps break up scar tissue, and the ice opens the capillaries. It's a good pain.

It's getting cold here, too, but at least Colorado isn't humid. I run in everything man. My left big toenail is still growing back from a snowstorm that killed it last year. So much snow built up in my toe box and froze, and my nail died and fell off. Second year in a row actually, lol.

Ah, my right middle toenail always turns black, dies, and another one grows over the top and I get the painful pleasure of peeling off the old one hahaha. Hopefully the new shoes will put an end to that. I've gone half a size up to allow for swelling. Have you tried gel inserts in the soles?

My Adidas actually have a breathable liner inside which helps prevent the snow from coming in. Not perfect, but much better. The Saucony's I was in had mesh only. I also do wear inserts but they are hard plastic arch supports.

I had a pair of Sauconys. Never again. They killed my feet.
Your pf.. ah well. You just have to plow through hey. I've known so many runners who gave up running for one reason or another - and running was their life. I'd rather run into my grave. I've seen the change in ex runners. It's something you'll always miss if you stop if it's in your blood. Well, I have to sleep now. Chat tmrw. Weekend rest coming up. Nite.

Just had my coffee and some water, now I'm doing what nobody else can do for me, then gonna hit the trails. Looking forward to a good run, and a day of college football. The real kind, btw, @Hobby Kid Not that boring one that actually does make sense to be called football. Seeing as it actually is played with the feet ;) Still, it's soccer, not football.

the closest we have to american football is rugby (yawn lol). although you can pick up the ball and kick it and stuff in Irish football.

i'm totally not a football fan anymore. english football is only and all about money. clubs have their own insurance firms and businesses. i was in a sports shop yesterday and these parents, looking very depressed, were buying a little strip for their 7yr old son and it was ÂŁ37 - that's $60! So i said to them 'you're getting ripped off' and they said they had no choice and the sales guy said 'well it's the latest strip.'

how far or how long will you run today?

@GlycerinHack , anything you can do is good. That was a barrier I fought at first, I am an all or nothing guy, and I had to learn that it's alright to do what you can, and slowly build up, if that's your goal.

@Hobby Kid I did what's become my standard, 10k, 5 days a week. When not training for a race my base was 4 10k's and a long run of at least 13.1 miles a week. With the P.F., I can't long run consistently. I'm fine with 10k, sometimes a bit more, though. It rarely if ever hurts during my run, and I think I'm having trouble healing largely due to my sleeping problems. I tend to get a 3 hour block, then it's waking every hour or half hour until I get up. You don't heal without sleep, so, oh well. I listen to my body, and 5 10k's is not an issue, and keeps a good training base.

Strangely enough, speed work is what I've been doing for a while, since I found that running faster actually felt better. I think purposely running slow was possibly causing my stride to put more pressure down. I have slowed down about :30 seconds a mile since the sleeping problems hit, so that's kinda a bummer. I still enjoy myself, and I still get out there, and that's what's important.

Saw a coyote today, too. It was a bit alarmingly not afraid of me at all. They've been known to get a bit aggressive in my area, mainly with dogs. We enter their habitat, and eventually they aren't threatened by us. It's inevitable.

@TBCAmor sleep is essential. Having got a good nights sleep gives me a real positive mental attitude. I think I need to practice sleep. Seriously. I'm terrible for staying up late. But I'm trying to drag my ass up and into bed in the evenings as soon as I feel my eyes get heavy, no matter what time it is.

You're putting in some good milage. I did 10k yesterday before pt. Set the treadmill to 1hr. Started at 9kph and finished at 12kph. I just remember as I type it was actually 63mins as I wanted to see the 10k, so I kept pressing an extra minute and going up by .5 lol. Hitting the target sits more comfortably in the mind doesn't it.

I have the opposite of you... I'm in bed and out by 11-1130 at the latest, I just can't stay asleep.

And yes, hitting the target it imperative, lol. I can't stop until I go at least as far as I set out for. Oftentimes long runs are 10ks that feel so good I keep going, but if I put in my GPS app to run a distance, I'm fucking running it. Lol.

Hey, no I'm resting this weekend. It really catches up with me so I try to take weekends off. I only woke up at 1.30pm lol so..
90mins run tmrw and a half hour PT session afterwards. I also walk to the gym and back so that's another 1hour. When was the last time you bought new running shoes? What do you look or wait for until you buy them?

Nice. I like when I can get my 5 days in during the week and take the weekend off, too. I've been stuck on 3 days rest 2 days rest for a while, though. It's nice to get those two rest days in a row for sure. That sounds like a fucking solid workout you got tomorrow man. Enjoy!

For shoes, mine are a couple months old, now. I go by mileage, but tend to push to 500, which is honestly too much. I have 236 on my current ones. I'd like to start phasing new ones in more near 400. Even at 400, these Adidas look brand new almost, but when I put on that new pair, it's like walking on clouds. I'm sure you know that feeling... You never realize how beat your shoes are until you put on a new pair. If I have the money, and when I'm training hard, I try to pick up two pairs and alternate. That's always a nice luxury. I track my runs with the nike GPS app, so it let's you choose what shoe you ran in, and retire them as well. It's free for iOS, a really great app IMO. Helps in keeping exact track of everything, including shoes, and that's difficult otherwise.

How about you? Are you a mileage kinda shoe buyer?

it really is. surprising actually how ya never notice it until trying that new pair. that feeling of walking on air .. that's how they manage to sell them for $160+ . sounds a lot on paper but it's a different story in the shop ;) you'll um and ah over it whilst browsing them online, but once you try them on that its! i just generally buy a pair every two months but things are changing. i'm putting in more mileage but at the same time i only use them at the gym now whereas before i used them just all the time everywhere. i bought new shorts a couple of weeks ago and they bunched up and really chaffed my thighs. when i got home i couldn't walk. i'm using proper base layers now like under armour

It really is so true about the shoes. That new pair is always fucking incredible. And yeah, they're pricey, but if you run like we do, you just have to accept it. Mine are 130 bucks, though I lucked out and got em on sale during a back to school deal for 99, I was pleased.

I understand the chafing, too lol. I wear thin tights under my shorts in the summer, and thermals with two pair of tights in the winter. Tights eliminate the chafage. I also scotch tape my nipples, lol. Sounds funny, but bloody nips are no fun. I forgot to tape em about a month ago, and I was holding my shirt out half the time. That shit fucking hurts, and it'll make you bleed. Lol, I still chuckle a bit every morning when I tape my nips, it's necessary but undoubtedly humorous.

If you haven't tried gradual compression socks, oh man, I can't run without em anymore. They are fucking awesome. If you're interested, CEP is the brand to get, and I wear the Progressive Run +. I've tried a couple brands and they are by far the best. They can be found online for about 45, and in stores they're about 60. It's a lot of money for socks, but they last a good year. That's about 1600 to 1800 miles for me, so 60 bucks seems reasonable, and I wear them every run, only have one pair, too. I think it's a German company, and they started out making medical ones for diabetics, so they're no joke. You might not get hit as hard with exchange rates, being a European company, but I know you have taxes that are exponentially higher than the u.s. I'd check em out if you haven't. The website explains it, but you size em by your calf measurement. Truly, they're incredible, I can't run without em. One thing I noticed is that they almost make you're calfs feel warmed up right after you slip em on. They also help with recovery, and their is science to back that up.

always make sure you're wearing clean scotch tape just in case you have an accident :D
As for the chest area i think you have to wear tight tops and then it doesn't rub. something like this - Helli Hansen, either vest or long sleeved depending where you're running. but that's a cool base layer - very very thin. it'll dry within minutes. it's good for keeping cool in the gym but you might wanna wear something over the top if you're outdoors.

i wear Skins sometimes. they do a good job. i tried stirrups as i was curious but i really don't need them. i just use short socks and that's it. i used to buy running socks but found they made no difference. they can be expensive and i found the ends where they're meant to be spongy would harden after a few washes. i must admit they last a long time and i never got holes in them, whereas i get through ordinary socks every 4ish runs. actually as i'm typing this i'm thinking of giving sports socks another chance and buying some more tmrw.

Skins looks like good stuff, and the calf high compression socks are about what I use. They have targeted gradual compression areas, but not so much any padding, I tend to get bothered by even the slightest padding.

And I do wear tight quality running gear, my nips just get hard, chafe, then bleed. Lol. Helli Hansen makes good stuff, I've got some nice Pearl Izumi tops, my favorite has hand pockets on the end of the sleeves, never need gloves with em.

Argh, slept like shit as usual... I just said fuck it, got up, was gonna have an off day but I'm gonna head out in a bit. Gonna be rainy and colder this week, and I hate rain, and wind SOOO much. I'll take snow over rain for a run. Might as well get one in before the weather comes. Morning @Hobby Kid , I'm guessing you being about six hours ahead of me or so, you're up. Hope you have or had a good workout. See ya on the other side. I won't forget my nipple tape :)

@TBCAmor wait I am confused.
I thought ice constricted the capillaries, reduces swelling, helps moves blood and fluid to reduce the inflammation and dulls the pain receptors.
I was always taught ice for pain/injury when it happens and to reduce swelling after injury.

But then again I always iced, the heat then ice if need be.
