12/11, Day One...UPS drops a package off on my porch that isn't mine, belongs to a former resident of our new house. I call UPS for a pickup, am assured a driver will come get it from the porch by 7pm.
12/12, Day Two...package is still on my porch. I call UPS again for pickup and explain that it does not belong to me but a former resident. I am assured the package was delivered to the correct address since it IS the address on the label. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but it ain't mine. I do however see it as mine...on someone else's porch...and I'd like to think someone would have the courtesy to call and have it picked up. Might be important, might be a Christmas gift. Might be someone's job to come and get it. I am assured the driver will come get it TODAY...
12/13, Day 3...Package is still here. Good news: I obviously don't have porch pirates. Bad news: UPS sucks. I realize it is ultimately the addressee's fault for not changing their address with Amazon, but after two phone calls and a promise of pickup, I'm still holding it and it still needs to go to its rightful owner. Today I am emailing Amazon about the situation to see if maybe they can contact the package owner.
Now to worry about the television we purchased for my brother's family, which FedEx is supposed to deliver to his home, 300 miles from here, by tomorrow. Hopefully it arrives in better shape than this poor misshapen box on my porch...
*** An update with an FYI: I called Amazon yesterday with regards to said package and was informed that they do not accept return packages in this situation. They wait for the customer to complain and then either reship or refund their account. The package is mine to "keep or donate," as the rep on the phone told me. So I got a freebie from Amazon. Is it something cool? Something useful? Bling? A tasty morsel?
It's door hinges. I have for my efforts two small boxes of door hinges for a set of swinging doors. *sigh*
