Apple has announced its first hardware event for 2024. The iPhone maker will hold one on May 7th at 7 am PT / 10 am ET.

In an email invite sent to the press, Apple revealed that it is hosting its next event with the tagline "Let Loose." As is common with Apple events, the company does not share any details on exactly what will appear at the event, but many reports suggest that new iPads will headline it. Interestingly, Apple's event invite, which you can see below, shows an artsy-themed Apple logo with a hand holding an Apple Pencil.

In his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported late last month that Apple plans to release updated iPad Pro and iPad Air models in the second week of May. Gurman reported late last year that Apple was reportedly planning to launch two iPad Air sizes, while the Pro model is rumored to include an OLED display.

Beyond new iPad announcements, Apple is also expected to announce updates to iPad accessories, specifically the Magic Keyboard and the Apple Pencil. Apple most recently updated the Apple Pencil last November, adding USB-C support, though that stylus was considered a low-end model due to its $79 price tag and its lack of support for pressure sensitivities and no wireless pairing or charging support.

This will be the only hardware event Apple will host before it kicks off WWDC the following month, with the annual developer's keynote scheduled for Monday, June 10th. More importantly, Apple has hosted this first Spring event since 2022, when the company held its "Peek Performance" event in early March. At its last Spring event, Apple announced a slew of hardware, such as an M1-powered iPad Air, a third-generation iPhone SE, and the first-generation Mac Studio.
