So I know a lot of people here are already on to bigger and better things but this is for the newer vapers out there or anybody looking into mechs at all.
I wanted to try mechs so I went and bought a cheap mech. Saw a few reviews on it before and thought, "Hey, that's not too bad for a cheap price."
The mod I bought was the smok tech extender. It's a telescoping mod for fitting different battery types. It was advertised by peakvapor.com (a local B&M for me but not worth the drive there due to gas hog vehicles and work hours) as, "This is a new telescoping, bottom-mounted magnetic switch mechanical mod from Smok, perfect for beginners and veterans alike."
I also confirmed it to be authentic and not a clone, just so you know it's not the clone giving me problems.
I had it for 2 weeks before upgrading to trying out regulated box mods. But after 1 week of owning it I had a few problems.
1. The battery cap was stuck, tried rubber gloves and rubber gloves on pliers to no avail (maybe mine only cause in the reviews theirs were fine) so I had to change batteries by telescoping it out which is maybe 10 rotations with an 18650.
Now I will get on to the serious safety hazards I noticed.
2. If you load a battery in backwards it will fire continuously on its own. How lovely is that? Auto vaporizer.
3. The magnetic firing button was great, then over time with use it will loosen itself via the lock ring and come out due to its design in threading.
When mine fell out the magnet in the firing button came out (maybe it wasn't glued in well enough or they rely on the other magnet to push on it and keep it in place) and stuck itself to the other magnet causing my mod to fire non stop until unscrewing the battery (damn top cap not unscrewing made that scarier than needed)
4. The venting... Doesn't exist. It has no top venting. It has slight side venting but if you use any battery shorter than an 18650 it becomes covered and unusable. It has fairly good venting on the bottom though, but it also becomes unusable if the lock ring is unscrewed to lock the firing button. So if you have a battery shorter than an 18650 and it's locked and somehow vents... Boom, pipe bomb.
After getting my upgrade I looked around to see if anybody noticed these huge flaws and found that smok tech had a previous model with the same issues. They had released the mod I bought with the same name, no v2 or anything and hadn't fixed a thing on it.
Will this keep me away from mechs? No, I'll just be sure to buy a safer one next time since I do enjoy them.
My point is stay away from this mod. For your own safety and those around you. The cheap price isn't worth the risk this mod carries with it.
