The only time I was offered a management position, was at a telemarketing company I worked at. The day manager was going to find a better job somewhere else. That meant the night manager was going to be day manager, and I was going to be night manager. That day manager was such a bitch that she decided to steal my commissions instead of looking for that job she wanted. Then, she went behind my back and got me evicted from my apartment, claiming I was doing drugs.
I collected evidence and got her fired. Yes, I am one that holds grudges, and retaliates within the law.

Those that refuse to do their jobs are easily replaced. That's why all new employees are put to work through a temp agency. My hubby just didn't want to get in trouble for nothing getting done by the kids that were being sent by the temp agency.

I call that corporate theft (stealing company time) and I would fire them on the spot.
One of the kids that worked at Lund's did just that, and then faked an injury after being caught.

One quick trip to the doctor would prove the injury was faked and then the employee is not only fired, but must pay the doctor bill. He would be warned of this up front so he can decide whether or not he is actually injured. Either way, he will be gone.
Funny thought: it is illegal to refuse to hire an 18 year old, but it's not illegal to fire one for not being able to pick up a piece of steel at a plant where that's all they do.

I would think the company would test them before hiring and if they can't do the job, that would be justification for not hiring them.
While waiting for the ride to the hospital, the kid's mommy came and picked him up. He never saw a doctor. So, he was fired. Then, we found out the temp agency had him sealing envelopes, just a week later, when my hubby was made employee of the month by the temp agency that put him to work. My hubby has now been a full time employee of Lund's for more than 2 years now.

They are forced to give them a chance. If they still can't do it after two weeks, they are sent packing. That's in the contract with the temp agency. They can get fired for stuff that is technically illegal tho.

And my husband's spelling and grammar are so poor, he couldn't properly fill out reports when the kids screw up.

Once when I ran a crew of about 18-20 in Beaverton Telco office installing switching equipment I got a guy who was useless bounced to my crew.
He would not work. I counselled him and he said I could not fire him because of his race.
My reply was keep up what you are doing and you will be fired.
I went to hr and got filled in on all the legal steps to fire someone.
And followed them to a T.
fired the guy and a couple of days later a lawyer showed up. I called HR and they brought over all the records.
The lawyer sat in a corner for an hour or so going over them. handed them to me and apologized for taking up my time.
had a temp that refused to bathe, was bad.
I told him to either bathe or not come back.
he told me I could not fire him for not bathing. I quoted the reasonable hygene rules of GTE.
he did not come back...
Ahh that wonderful mobile workforce for the new millennium we kept hearing about....

The Zombie apocalypse is upon us.
What happened between my generation and these assholes today? We worked for a wage that paid the bills and we took great pride in our work; we did the absolute best we could. Today's jerk-offs don't care whether or not they do good work, or any work at all, and they seem to think the world owes them something. I'd like to send them all to Venezuela (given that Pluto isn't an option yet) and get back the country I grew up in.
I remember loving a full-time job that paid the minimum wage, when it was $3.35 an hour, even when that barely paid the rent.

Ahh but we had preachers preaching that greed was good in the 80's and continuing onward.
parents deserve a lot of the blame as well for spoiliing their children and not teaching them responsibility.
And of course the marketing industry as well...

I live in an area where everyone owns a rifle that does not require electronics. I also do not live my life via smart phone or any other stupid ass electronic toys that control my life. My neighbors and I cannot be defeated so easily.
Spent way too much time outside, gardening, fishing, etc...

That is probably the main reason and they, in turn, blame Dr. Spock and that "thou shalt not spank thy child" routine. Rotten Brats!
But then to we focused on paying the rent and such first before paying $500+ for a smartphone and $100 a month for service and such.
Priorities are so messed among the younger humans in our country today.
Ohh it was laziness on the parents part as well. It is much harder to raise a child than to let them run amok.
I still don't have much time for the boob tube. If it is on, it is usually for background noise (the stereo broke ages ago).
i never did get into a TV as background noise.
And cannot go to sleep if it is on.
I watch more TV lately but usually Andromedia or somesuch.
I never watch any of the current network shows.
have not for decades.
I babysat a couple of kids for one of those parents. When the older boy (age 10) started punching me in the back, I pulled him over my shoulder, and gave him one swat on the ass.
His mom chewed me out for it. I told her "fine! Don't expect men to watch your brats then". She gave in and had me watching them every weekend when she went gambling.

The "Me Too" movement that's in the media now is exposing this stuff like it's something new. Most women over 40 have dealt with it off and on their entire work lives. It's about time, but really, it's way PAST time, that junk like this can't be allowed to happen, and it can't be covered up once it does happen.
My daughters (both of them, worked for the same company at the time) were in a limo being driven home from their company Christmas party one year, where at that party the company furnished employees unlimited, free alcoholic beverages. A man with whom both of them had worked for years just lost his mind and basically assaulted my older daughter during that ride. She said before she knew what was happening, he was all over her, trying to stick his hand down into her slacks, slobbering all over her face, you can imagine that drill. Of course my younger daughter witnessed all this (she was only about 22 years old at the time) and was able to validate the statements my older daughter later made to their HR department. It took a while, but the man was eventually removed from his position. He is still working in the same industry, though, and they run across each other from time to time. He acts as if nothing ever happened.
Well, first of all, what in the hell is a company doing, encouraging their employees to get stinking drunk at a Christmas party? How do they know whether or not they may have employees who are raging alcoholics, and once they start drinking, they cannot stop? JEEZUS. And next, the damn lack of self control of this man? Well, alcoholics who are in active addiction DON'T have self-control, otherwise they wouldn't be in active addiction. I very much doubt that it's "fun" for them.
Anyway, I guess this is my bitch for this morning.

I dunno, I followed Dr Spock like it was my religion, and I don't recall reading anything about not spanking. It wasn't my first choice once he was old enough to understand language, but a belt is a remarkable last-ditch option -- use it once or twice, and it functions as a BRILLIANT deterrent forever after.
Before the onset of language however, a slap to that Luvs-clad fanny worked great -- too much padding to hurt him, but that plastic coating means it makes a loud noise -- like using a rolled up newspaper on a dog. Andria
