Airflow wide open.
Waited 5 minutes between each setting just in case the coil was the type to get hot and stop producing flavor.
After priming I fit 2ml juice in.
KTR Coil (W8) 0.15Ω rated @ 50 - 110 watts (60 - 80 watts is their suggest "best" range)
These are octuple kanthal coils.
50 - Some flavor, not bad but a tighter draw than I am normally after.
60 - Minimal change from 50
70 - Flavor slightly increasing. Vapor had a huge increase.
80 - More flavor and the tank is getting fairly warm. The vape is only slightly increased in temperature.
90 - Minimal change from 80
100 - Not sure this works for my particular style. 100 watts on a real tight draw isn't quite my thing.
110 - For a single hit or two, this is almost ok but as I said with 100 watts, it isn't for my particular vape style.
The tighter draw works fine at lower wattages for me but not so much in the higher range.
(that might be why they labelled it as "Best 60 - 80")
I found 85 watts produced the most amount of flavor for the amount of airflow this coil has. (for me)
After running 120 ml of juice though this W8 coil I decided to change to the W2 coil.
Not because the W8 coil was done, just because I was curious to see how the W2 coil performs.
(Considering I use super sweet juice with high flavor percentage this is fairly long coil life for me.)
I did NOT close the air flow during tank refills and id did NOT have any negative results.
KTR Coil (W2) 0.4Ω rated @ 30 - 80 watts (45 - 65 watts is their suggest "best" range)
These are dual kanthal coils.
30 - Just a touch of visible vapor but no other signs that I was actually vaping.
40 - Starting to get just a bit of flavor but the vapor production is crazy thick.
50 - Flavor really picking up but not quite where I like it yet.
60 - Flavor still increasing some and surprisingly so is the vapor. Who knew this little thing could produce clouds of this volume?
70 - Oh I am liking the flavor now. Base of tank starting to get a little warm but vape temp staying put.
80 - When the coil is cool this setting would be right where I'd want it.
Once the coil warms up (about 10 chain vapes) it seems to lose a little flavor.
Allow it to cool back down and you'll be right back in greatness.
Cloud production is about 75% of what I get from the Aromamizer Plus with dual Alien Claptons @ 100 watts at 0.12Ω
90 - This is just a touch outside the capability of this coil, not burnt but tasting like it is headed that direction.
I found 78 watts produced the most amount of flavor. (for me)
Wicking had no trouble keeping up.
No leaks, no condensation.
I did have a bit of trouble getting this coil to thread into the base due to the threads not being as smooth and clean as they could have been but after a few tries I got it.
Maybe this is just on the particular review/test version that I received.
As I said, it arrived in a plain white box with no accessories other than an extra glass.
On their site they have coils listed as:
W2 - Rated @ 30 - 80 and best @ 45 - 65 (included)
W4 - Rated @ 30 - 70 and best @ 45 - 60
W6 - Rated @ 40 - 130 and best @ 70 - 90
W8 - Rated @ 50 - 110 and best @ 60 - 80 (pre-installed)
Since the W2 and W8 are in the package we know their resistance.
I didn't find any mention of the resistance of the other two coils on thier site but the ones I have DO have it printed on them.
As previously stated I was asked to compare this to the Smok Big Baby Beast and Baby Beast,
The coils are interchangeable.
To ensure the closest comparison here is the setup:
All three tanks are on Smok Alien mods with new fully charged Samsung 25R batteries.
All three mods are on firmware version 1.2.2
VivaKita Frogman has Turbo X8 W8 Coil 0.15Ω - rated for 50-110W | recommended 60-80W *set at 85W
VivaKita Frogman has Turbo X8 W2 Coil 0.4Ω - rated for 30-80W | recommended 45-65W *set at 78W
Smok Big baby Beast has 0.2Ω V8 Baby-T6 Sextuple Coil - rated for 40-140W | recommended 70-90W *set at 75W
Smok Baby Beast has 0.15Ω V8 Baby-T8 Octuple Coil - rated for 50-100W | recommended 60-80W *set at 55W
After testing and comparing all the above:
The Turbo X8 W8 coil has a just a tiny bit MORE air restriction than both the Baby Beast with the 0.15Ω V8 Baby-T8 Octuple Coil and the Big baby Beast with the 0.2Ω V8 Baby-T6 Sextuple Coil.
The Turbo X8 W2 coil has LESS air restriction than both the Baby Beast with the 0.15Ω V8 Baby-T8 Octuple Coil and the Big Baby Beast with the 0.2Ω V8 Baby-T6 Sextuple Coil.
With each tank being set at what is the best flavor setting for my tastes;
I bounced back and forth between X8 W8, V8-T6, and V8-T8 coils and was unable to tell the difference in taste.
To be fair, if they all had the same drip tip and air flow, I wouldn't have even known what tank I had if I were blindfolded.
I replaced the drip tip on the Frogman with one from another Baby Beast to eliminate that aspect.
Once I compared the X8 W2 coil, it provided more flavor from 50W through 80W than any of the other three coils.
Simply comparing the Turbo X8 W8 against the V8-T8 (with the above mentioned settings) the ONLY difference was airflow.
Taste and vapor production seemed identical.
So when I was told they are comparable, truer words couldn't be said.
But the X8 W2 coil produced more flavor than all of them I compared.
