I do think literacy has a great deal to do with it -- most of us from earlier generations tend to be a bit more literate than younger people -- nowadays knowing how to google is considered more important than how to use a card catalog or encyclopedia (or dictionary, for that matter!).
But my son, who's almost 28, has the same issue -- online, he's perceived as older because he's extremely literate and well-read; in person, it's his receding hairline that causes the confusion. Andria

I know... my son outgrew his earlier boniness when he was in his early 20s... but I always see those stork legs, nevermind how well developed (and hairy!) they are now.

our son was so bony,,(played football from 5 years old).. in highschool he was 6'2 & 145 lbs With his football gear on! we moved from the city to a country school where the boys were much bigger.. at practice the coach pulled him aside and talked to him. after practice i asked him what the coach said... he said the coach asked him if he will be ok with all of the other players being at least 50lbs heavier,, ,,,,,,,,,,the boy said-yes,,,,the coach next asked why..,, the boy said........fear sir,, all i have to do is catch the ball and runI know... my son outgrew his earlier boniness when he was in his early 20s... but I always see those stork legs, nevermind how well developed (and hairy!) they are now.
