When making a Clapton coil, how do I make the wrap stay around the core?

I made Clapton wire yesterday (26ga / 38ga), and when I tried to make coils out of it the wrap (38ga) unwrapped from around the core (26ga) on its own and the wire was ruined.

How do I make the wrap stay on and around the core without unravelling?

Thanks!

Use as little tension as you can without overlapping, overlap the beginning and the end, hotglue the ends, fold the core over the wrap, etc...

I don't have hot glue or a glue gun, I'll have to pick those up. In the meantime I'll try the vice grip method.

You don't need the gun. Just the sticks.

Bend the begin and end over itself and crimp it so the outerwrap can't slip off while wrapping ;)

another trick I was told is once its wrapped, gently grab the outer wrapping and hold it with pliers. Spin the drill a little more and it will cinch the wrap down onto the core.
