Terrible cough from vaping

Hi guys,
A friend of mine, who has been vaping for years, bought a a whole set. The set was really quality, even the essential oils he got for me were good stuff. However, I got a really bad cough after every time I vaped, this didn't happen when I smoked cigarettes.
Am I allergic to oil?

You should NEVER EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE vape oil.

Hopefully what you actually have is a high quality eliquid most call "juice" made of PG, VG and flavorings

Are you vaping to replace smoking cigarettes?

It is very, very common for people to cough a lot when they first start vaping instead of smoking - a person's lungs are trying to heal from the abuses of tobacco exposure

I can't even imagine how horribly I'd cough if I was vaping essential oils. UGH.

Newage bullshit never ceases to amaze me.
Yep and $20 each for a disposable cigalike difuser thingy.
Grand daughter called up her Mamaw wanting us to buy her some.

I checked them out and saw that they were unsafe AND $20 a pop and said no way in hell. The grand daughter does not even smoke.

Many have already stated the thoughts on vaping "Oils" so no need to expand on it but from my experience when I first started vaping while attempting to quit smoking, vaping caused me to cough. I theorize it was from not having the thousands of additional chemicals which anesthetize you throat so to speak. After finally quitting cold turkey took about 2 weeks for my throat to heal enough that is did not irritate it anymore. Now remember I am not a doctor and these are just my opinions from my experience.

^^ Best reply. Oil in the lungs leads to lipoid pneumonia. Never ever vape any kind of oil at any time. The normal stuff that vapers vape is NOT oil, though it leaves a slippery feeling on the fingers, similar to oil -- it's water soluble though, which is the only kind of thing you should ever vape. High VG can cause choked, tight, dry, or seriously mucus-y coughing in some people, and PG can cause irritated, ticklish sort of coughing in some people.

And some people do cough a lot when they switch to vaping, though I didn't, not really. Qutting smoking the old fashioned way (cold turkey) also leads to a lot of coughing as all the accumulated tar starts to loosen and come up, so I'm not sure it's fair to blame the vaping for the coughing. I think the reason I didn't notice vaping causing any particular cough was because I was suffering the very end of a very bad smokers' cold when I started, so I was already coughing like I had pneumonia, and considered that normal for having/getting over a cold, after 39 yrs of smoking. Vaping actually eased and soothed that just a little.

When you vape most citrus flavorings, many spice flavorings, camphor-like flavorings, select fruit flavors, most florals -- those flavorings almost certainly contain essential oils. In fact, most of us use some flavorings with essential oils.

Here are some examples. Check the ingredients (hardly unique to TFA, just using them here because they list ingredients):

Vaping flavorings that are made with essential oils is entirely different than vaping oil-based flavorings (which are lipids). http://vapingunderground.com/threads/ingredients-to-avoid-using-in-diy.102/#post-45117. Of course i have no idea what's in that cig-alike-looking product linked in this thread, but that's some info to be aware of.

That cigalike looking product has frankensense and such in it.
The manufacturers directions are to inhale thru mouth and exhale thru nose but not to inhale into lungs...

That's different than vaping the oils themselves, though. :) Although it does bring to mind something I've been wondering. I'm allergic to kiwi fruit, so I've been avoiding any flavors that have a kiwi taste in them. No idea, though, if the flavorings have actual kiwi in them and/or how much of the actual fruit is in them, but I've been avoiding them just in case.

I've wondered that too, about coconut; my son is DEATHLY allergic to that, goes completely anaphylactic. I was even worried that VG from palm oil might cause a problem, but it doesn't seem to, THANK GOD. Fortunately I don't vape anything with coconut flavor in it, and didn't care much for the 3 diff coconut flavorings I tried out; they all seemed too "dry" or something.

I'm going to make a leap here and guess that someone who's been vaping for years probably got a setup that was far too much for a beginning vaper. I like a nice thick sub-ohm vape now, but when I first started, that would have killed me. I don't doubt I would have coughed up my shoes. If this guy ever comes back, we need to find out what that quality set-up consists of. He might need something a bit less powerful to start with. :)

As a guy that was NEVER a smoker..... I began vaping because I tried a few and really enjoyed it. That being said, I started out on a smok osub 40 watt kit. It produced a nice amount of vapor and i vaped anything from 0 to 3 mg nic and usually was about 80/20 vg/pg ratio. About 2 weeks into it, my lungs felt very heavy. I felt like I had pneumonia. This was at the time when I began to bump the wattage from 25 up to 40. I came to this forum and asked people why (and I've been here ever since). The feeling passed, and I now vape 0 or 3 mg juice in the regular and have no issues.

My case asside..... this one seems very different. I've heard of people doing essential oils and having awful awful results. Even people that toss 1 drop into a regular ejuice found it to be hard in their lungs. Don't do it.... simple answer.

Wait what?

I mean back in the day as I grew up, running into a train or sniffing glue was a thing too, doesn't mean everybody did it. Guess nothing should surprise me anymore. What's the trend next week? Hanging up side down a tree, butt ass naked, cracking your nuts with your own butt cheeks? Kids these days...
