Hello everyone Pizza Dave here, delivering a review of the Owl tank by Advken. The owl is something that has been talked about by a ton of people lately. It is an interesting looking, mesh sub-ohm tank, that also works with baby beast style coils. It comes with an interesting, low profile drip tip, has top air flow, and is a beastly looking thing. Let’s dive right down and see if this thing is a hoot….. or not.

OVERVIEW

I had to make up a section here. I don’t often do in depth reviews of sub-ohm tanks only, but I am giving it a shot. So here we have the Owl. It is a beefy, large tank, and this will be the biggest thing that jumps out right away. Measuring in at 25mm at the base and 30mm in the middle (w/ bubble glass) and having the weight of a small person, this thing isn’t your every day sub-ohm tank. It doesn’t work well on lightweight mods, and can look flat out goofy. However, the Owl is one unique tank. What makes this such a large tank, with just 4ml of capacity is because it has two large air flow channels that come down the sides and all the way under the base. This provides top air flow which comes up through the coil like it would if it was a bottom air flow. Everything is machined really well, and this adds to the styling of this large tank.

HOW IT VAPES / FINAL THOUGHTS

The Owl is something different for a sub-ohm tank. The top air flow feels smooth, and provides a restricted lung feel. It is one of the quieter sub-ohm tanks I have ever tried, and no matter how burned he coils were, I never had flooding or leaking at all. Leaking would be about impossible, but I could see the base getting flooded if the cotton is completely burned out, but at that point it wouldn’t even be enjoyable to vape. Speaking of coil life, I was able to get about 30ml of good life from the coil. At that point, the wicking started to struggle, and I would get a burnt taste here and there. I vaped it until the 40ml mark and it was time. That being said, the smaller baby beast style coils have slightly less life than some other mesh tanks out there, but not too far behind. After about 1 full tank, the coil was broken in and I started to get the full flavor from this tank. It didn’t really blow me away, but it is somewhere in the middle of the road for mesh coils out there. Even with flavor that isn’t crazy good, I personally loved using it, and it’s great to have piece of mind that it won’t leak when I tip it to vape. Even though I like vaping the Owl, I did find some small cons. With just a 4ml capacity with bubble glass, I found myself filling it up more than I thought I would. Speaking of refills, they kind of botched the filling port. The port is small, and the design of the tank means there is a restriction right below the fill port. The only way I could have any success was the just barely stick my bottle tip in the corner, slowly fill, and hold the tank at an angle. If you don’t do that the e-liquid till fill up the top and not flow into the tank. Here in ND, liquid can easily thicken up and that only added to the frustration. The last thing I might nitpick on a bit is the drip tip. I just don’t like it. Doesn’t feel right to me, so I swapped it out to something more standard. I also hate Ultem, so having that on the SS and black models is a fail to me. With just a few small cons that aren’t that big of a deal I can’t really bash this tank much. I love how it looks, love the heavy, well built feel, and love the air flow design. The fact that I can go get plenty of baby beast style coils locally is a huge perk, even though many BB coils are crap (yet to try their mesh).

OVEN TEST

If this were to accidentally go into the pizza oven would I go out and get another? I may not get another, but I will definitely keep on using the one I’ve got. Coils are super easy to find and it is one of the most unique tanks I have used to date.

REVIEW CRITERIA: I use each item extensively for about two weeks to ensure I have collected enough data to adequately write a review. I use the same e liquid in tanks or rdas throughout all my reviews to ensure that I am comparing apples to apples between all modern equipment. I do not post reviews until I feel confident that I have used all products enough to give an educated review. The reason I started doing reviews was due to poor purchasing decisions in my vaping infancy about two years ago. Back then, I purchased several different pieces of hardware without really enjoying them and I hope my reviews can guide people into spending their hard-earned money more wisely than I did! ****Keep in mind that some items I receive may be pre-release and not in retail packaging. Quality may be less than the finished product and what is in the package may differ from the retail package as well.
