INTRODUCTION
Hello everyone and welcome to another review. This is Pizza Dave and today I will be going over the Gpriv 3 by Smok. This is the third iteration of one of Smok’s flagship devices and they appear to have pulled out all the stops. The Gpriv 3 comes with a massive 2.4” touchscreen, is powered by dual 18650s, and has a max output of 230w. We have seen Gprivs before, but this seems a bit different. I never had a previous version of the device, but I remember when the first one came out it made everybody go “wow, this is where we are now.” They have been known for large screens, but in a compact body, and the 3rd version has all of this and is a bit more refined. Let’s get right to it eh?

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Purple? They had to send me purple? Yeah, so reviewers generally get the bottom barrel of what is out there and this was no exception. I was sent the purple/red model, which is very much a pink color, until it is held up to the light in which the red comes out in the paint. It is actually a really nice looking mod, even in this color. The fit and finish all around is top notch as well. The backside has a battery door, held firmly in place with strong magnets and there is no wiggle on it at all. The mod just feels very solid in hand and I am experiencing no rattles what so ever. Where things really get interesting is on power up. 5 clicks of the side firing bar reveals a large 2.4” color screen that is vibrant, clear, and just really well done. I am very impressed with the look and feel of this device out of the box, so let’s start using it.

OPERATION
Operation of the Gpriv 3 is similar to what I had on the Mag P3, but with a larger screen. So much so that the operating section is nearly copy and pasted.
With the screen unlocked, you will be able to click the arrows down on the bottom of the screen to adjust the wattage or temperature of the device. The screen is super responsive and feels almost like a smartphone.
To enter the device menu, with the screen unlocked, click on the symbol in the top left corner with 3 boxes on it. Inside the menu there are 4 sub-menus
So yeah, if you have a Mag P3, or read my review of that device, you will find that the chipset is about the same, but with a different screen. It is easy to work with and is all done very clearly. The fonts are large, it isn’t too muddled up, and it has several options to play with.

USEAGE
The majority of my time with the Gpriv 3 was spent with the included TFV16 Lite tank. This tank is a lot like the regular TFV16, but in a smaller form factor. To be honest, they vape a lot alike as well. Once again, I found the dual coil mesh to be better than the single for air flow smoothness and flavor. It is a nice pairing on top of the mod and the color is very matchy matchy. One of the only things I don’t like about the smaller version is heat. The tank gets very hot when chain vaping and it heats up the entire top of the mod. I felt like the regular TFV16 had some more room to dissipate heat and this struggled to do so. It isn’t a deal breaker, but it is noticeable. As far as overall performance goes, I am going to assume that the Gpriv 3 and Mag P3 have the same chip. They both perform about the same. Wattage performance seems to be on point with the setting and the ramp time for smaller coils, or the TFV16 Lite coils is instant and delightful. I also like the preheat settings on this, as it allows for some extra power at the start to preheat larger builds. I did a quick TC test with this and found it worked about the same as the Mag P3. It wants to work, and nearly does what it is supposed to, but not quite there. If one takes the time to play with it, I am certain it could perform at least some form of “acceptable” temp control.
The mod overall works damn well. The screen is intuitive and the stealth button is key to better battery life. I did find that this device is a little more power hungry than the Mag P3, so I found myself putting it in stealth mode and found it to be a little better for battery life this way. One thing I NEVER point out is charging screens. I don’t suggest doing it, and I will always push to an external charger. However, one day I took mine out of the house, tossed in a set of batteries, and found that they were both at 25%. I grabbed a low set, whoops. I plugged it in with the USB-C port and was delightfully surprised at the colorful and interesting charge screen. It also charged my batteries evenly and rapidly. In a pinch, it is a nice feature to have, so there’s that.

OPERATION
Operation of the Gpriv 3 is similar to what I had on the Mag P3, but with a larger screen. So much so that the operating section is nearly copy and pasted.
- 5 clicks of the fire button turns the device on and off
- 3 clicks of the fire button locks out the fire bar
- One click of the screen button (located above the fire bar) turns the screen off for stealth mode
- Holding down the screen button will lock or unlock the screen and if left unlocked, it will lock again once you start vaping.
- MODE: TC-Ni, TC-Ti, TC-SS, and Watt. Within each mode you can set preheat settings, or TCR in each of the TC screens
- MY MODE: Which offers 4 preset wattage modes for you to play with. These include wattage, preheat, nicotine strength, and a spot to rename the mode. Once in MY MODE, these settings can be changed by clicking the setting logo underneath the wattage dial on the screen. There are no adjustment buttons on screen when in MY MODE.
- PUFF: Where you can play around and reset the puff counter.
- SETTING: Includes a sub menu
- GENERAL: About, factory reset, accessibility, power off
- CHIP: Info on the chip itself
- THEME: Where you can change the screen color and timeout
- PASSCODE: Set up a password to enter instead of the standard swipe to unlock
- GENERAL: About, factory reset, accessibility, power off
So yeah, if you have a Mag P3, or read my review of that device, you will find that the chipset is about the same, but with a different screen. It is easy to work with and is all done very clearly. The fonts are large, it isn’t too muddled up, and it has several options to play with.
