So, I had mentioned in the Daily Mixing Thread that I could use a recipe for a Nilla Cake clone... The response was overwhelming with numerous variations for clones and even clone recipes that turned out BETTER than the original! So someone mentioned that all the recipes should be put into one single place, so I volunteered to start this thread.

The general consensus is that V5 by @wildgypsy70 is the closest to the original (I have 60ml steeping as I type this).

Okay, so here's what we have! First off, I tried making a vanilla something or other a few weeks prior to this collaborative. It's okay, I guess, but nothing like the Nilla Cake that I wanted it to be.

Nilla Bomb Beta v1.0
  • 1.00% Bourbon (Vanilla Bourbon) (FA)
  • 2.00% French Vanilla V1 (CAP)
  • 1.00% Madagascar (Vanilla Classic) (FA)
  • 2.00% Simply Vanilla (CAP)
  • 1.00% Sugar Cookie (CAP)
  • 2.00% Vanilla Cupcake (CAP)
  • 2.00% Vanilla Custard v1 (CAP)
  • 2.00% Vanilla Shisha (INAWERA)
  • 2.00% Vanilla Swirl (TPA)
  • 1.00% Vanilla Tahity (FA)
  • 2.00% Vanilla Whipped Cream (CAP)
Flavor total: 18%

Next, we have a lot of hard work and testing by @wildgypsy70

Wild Gypsy's Nilla Cake V5 (Boo Boo Version)
  • 3.00% Cake (Yellow) (FW)
  • 0.50% Cake Batter (CAP)
  • 1.00% Cookie (Biscotto) (FA)
  • 2.00% French Vanilla V1 (CAP)
  • 0.50% Golden Butter (CAP)
  • 0.25% Super Sweet (CAP)
  • 3.00% Vanilla Cupcake (TPA)
  • 1.00% Vanilla Whipped Cream (CAP)
Flavor total: 11.25%

Wild Gypsy's Nilla Cake V5
  • 3.00% Cake (Yellow) (FW)
  • 0.50% Cake Batter (CAP)
  • 1.00% Cookie (Biscotto) (FA)
  • 2.00% French Vanilla V1 (CAP)
  • 0.25% Super Sweet (CAP)
  • 3.00% Vanilla Cupcake (TPA)
  • 1.00% Vanilla Whipped Cream (CAP)

Flavor total: 10.75%

Wild Gypsy's Nilla Cake V7
  • 2.00% Bavarian Cream (FW)
  • 0.25% Butter (TPA)
  • 2.00% Butter Cream (CAP)
  • 1.00% French Vanilla V1 (CAP)
  • 1.00% Vanilla Swirl (TPA)
  • 4.00% Yellow Cake (JF)
Flavor total: 10.25%

Wild Gypsy's Nilla Cake V8
  • 3.00% Butter Cream (CAP)
  • 2.00% French Vanilla V1 (CAP)
  • 1.00% Golden Butter (CAP)
  • 0.25% Super Sweet (CAP)
  • 1.00% Vanilla Shisha (INAWERA)
  • 4.00% Yellow Cake (CAP)
  • 1.00% Vanillin 10% (TPA)

Flavor total: 12.25%

And last (but certainly not least), @nadalama took the Nilla Cake idea and brought it to a whole new level with an entirely new recipe that I really want to try also:

Nadalama's Dark Vanilla Creme Cake
  • 0.40% Butter (TPA)
  • 0.60% Coconut Extra (TPA)
  • 1.00% Cookie (Biscotto) (FA)
  • 1.00% Cream Soda (FW)
  • 2.00% French Vanilla Deluxe (TPA)
  • 1.50% Marshmallow (DIY)
  • 3.00% Nonna's Cake (FA)
  • 3.00% Vanilla Whipped Cream (CAP)
  • 0.60% Zeppola (FA)

Flavor total: 13.1%

This was an awesome collaboration by some of VU's finest talent! Considering how let down I was by my own Vanilla Bomb recipe (appropriately named, in hindsight...), I want to take some ideas from your guys' work and try to put yet another Nilla Cake type recipe together.

I may have missed a recipe or 2 - please let me know and I'll add it in.

Lol!! I think you and I are the consensus. We may have been the only ones with the OG. But....I still think we did better! Yum yum

Did you try adding any butter to your v5? If not, think I’ll mix up your v5 again without any butter.
Ok. I originally did not. But added it later....found it in my notes. I just sent @CrazyChef v2.0 the final edited edition. .5% TFA butter....figured TFA is easier to find and most would have it, besides Caps Golden.

Thanks, Chef! Awesome job! Hopefully, something can be patched together to your liking. I’m still stuck on v5 and 8. They’re pretty damn good, with a steep. @nadalama ’s is equally amazing, in a completely different way! Yum!

@wildgypsy70 didn’t v5 have these additions?

FA Cookie 1%
Cap super sweet .25%

Cos that’s what I made with your edits to your post. o_O
Yes! You are correct! There are so many versions, it’s hard to keep up. Now I gotta go to ELR and fix it there. Thanks for catching that!

The small amount of coconut is something I have been doing off and on for a few years with bakery and custard type mixes. Not enough to really flavor the mix, but just enough to give it a little flavor boost. I just like pudding, and I'm hoping it'll be a S&V without the custard. Still waiting for additional input from you guys until I mix it. As far as steeping time, I really don't know. I'll try it S&V, the again after 3 days, then after a week, then after 2 weeks I guess. Unless it end up being worthy right away as a S&V.

The only potential worry I have....which, damn, I love pudding, too....is that the vanilla pudding, Bavarian and vanilla swirl might drown out the cake. But again, I love pudding, so it doesn’t bother me any! Might be like those magic cakes that layer....

Does it seem similar to the OG?
Very, just not quite as much vanilla. And not quite as sweet, either. But it's WAY better than the Nilla Bomb recipe I came up with. I'll definitely vape the entire 55ml I made. Maybe increase the Super Sweet to 0.50% in the next version. I'm kinda afraid to increase any of the vanilla flavors, as it's already at 15.75% flavor, and I don't want to give it a chemical taste from over flavoring it.

I added 2% Cupcake, and didn't get the results I was hoping for. I guess leave it at 5%. Also added an additional 0.25% Super Sweet and can't notice a difference. I think my tastebuds might need a break. Gonna drip the OG on top as soon as the wick dries a bit and see what the difference(s) is/are.

The OG has a bit more of a bakery taste to it. I think I'll add 1% CAP Sugar Cookie to it next time, change the Cupcake to 6%, and keep the Super Sweet at 0.50%.

While I kept the VU versions private (I don't have your permission to share them), I've made the betas public. Here's the latest with very minor even more tweaks.

Nilla Cake - VU Collaborative Beta V1.2
  • 0.50% 10% Ethyl Maltol
  • 2.00% Bavarian Cream (TPA)
  • 0.50% Coconut (FA)
  • 2.00% French Vanilla V1 (CAP)
  • 1.00% Sugar Cookie (CAP)
  • 6.00% Vanilla Cupcake (TPA)
  • 1.00% Vanilla Pudding (Flavorah)
  • 2.00% Vanilla Swirl (TPA)
  • 2.00% Vanilla Whipped Cream (CAP)
  • 2.00% Vanillin 10% (TPA)

Flavor total: 18.75%

http://tjek.nu/r/mKhm

EDIT: Increased the FA Coconut from 0.25% to 0.50% because I screwed up and accidentally added too much. But it works, so I'm gonna leave it at 0.50%.

I don't diy but read the whole thread. Just want to add that you guys and gals are some crafty mother chickens. Im looking into diy to make one flavor. Monster melons by cuttwood. Jasonandsarah started a batch to try and clone but I never heard back after his personal life had some issues. Which is ok. That's life. If any of you get the nilla cake going well I'd like to definitely try some. Purchased if course. I love the nilla cake. Came Chef recommended so I bought 4 bottles after the first one I tried. I never realized this much work went into a juice. Great job

I know one thing for sure. Before my short DIY experience, I'd never have guessed that there could be so much variation in "vanilla." People think of vanilla as a generic flavor, but good grief, it's anything but.

@wildgypsy70 's Nilla Cake V5 is really good. I had to mix it with a couple of subs, but it's really good. Haven't mixed the others because there are just too many flavors I don't have.

My Dark Vanilla Creme Cake as I originally mixed it (with the FW Cream Soda) is on day 10 and it's really good, too, but as gypsy said, an entirely different flavor than the Nilla V5, or I imagine, any of the Nilla-oriented mixes that came out of the collaboration. It's not the slightest bit subtle. I'm vaping it in a Geekvape Illusion Mini at 28W with one of those 0.9ohm Vaporesso ccell coils, and it says "VANILLA" big and loud, at least imo. I think the Cream Soda makes a world of difference in it, and going forward, will mix it that way.

Maybe I'll rename it YETI CAKE. :giggle: Sound right, for the Bigfoot of Vanillas?

ETA: Just realized something about the DVCC - it has a little bit of a "boozy" flavor to it. Have been trying to get hold of what that flavor is, think it might be coming from Nonna's Cake, because it's in the version without Cream Soda, too. My lips feel a little numb. Does AP have flavor?

Do any of you use Vanillin? I'm thinking I've read somewhere that it's pretty much straight, sweet vanilla, a la sweetened vanilla extract? Maybe @CrazyChef v2.0 's mix needs a little shot of vanillin?

Actually that occurred to me, too. It's easy to obscure the cake flavor.

I am hesitant to chime in with mixes done by folks who have so much more experience than me. You all are miles and miles further down this road.

Please always chime in! I am def not a super experienced mixer by any means. I’ve only really been doing this seriously for about a year. I tried and failed miserably two years ago....then really listened and started mixing again with some success. Any opinion is a good opinion....a different take is always welcome!
