Hey everyone. I figured it was about time to introduce myself. My name is Chris. Been vaping for about 3 months now. Still trying to quit the icky sticks. Right now I'm using an ijoy rdta box mini. Learning to build my own coils as well. Any recommendations to help me along with my vaping journey would be much appreciated. Thx.

Welcome Chris - and keep up the good work trying to put down the smokes

Lots of great advice out there on quitting and dual using - it took me a very long time (years) to finally quit tobacco but haven't had a cig in over two years now - so it can be done

Hey Chris! Congratulations on deciding to quit carcinogens. I have been analog cig free for 5 years. I think most of us go through a back forth fight as we transition to a smoke free alternative. I agree with SteveS45 that cold turkey is the best way but for me, I just wasn't mentally strong enough to do the cold turkey method. I am the type of person that used cigs for life's stressful moments and whatever excuses I could find to light up, I did. What I found worked best for me was to experiment with nic strengths and find one that actually satisfied my cravings and along with that, find a juice flavor that also prompted you to reach for the device more than the cig. I think that was the turning point where the cig packs sat around longer and longer and eventually became easier to ignore and hence, obsolete. Additionally, I actually keep a small pod system around with 30mg salt nic liquid that I use for those "life's stressful moments" to get my fix quick and satisfy the mental urge. Wish you the best of luck and stay strong!

Welcome!

I myself alternated between the Stinkies and Vaping for about 2 weeks.

At the end, I just got up one morning and I realized that I wanted a vape instead of a Ciggy

Welcome Aboard Chris ...I gave up by using a big foggy tank ...hated the throat hit so went high VG and kept the nic level at 3% because I was vaping like a madman to begin with just to satisfy the cravings and didn’t want the sweats with chain vaping ....took me a few months to come away from this and appreciate lower puffers with a tighter draw

Still love a cloudage though it’s my way of counteracting the want for a stinkie ...down to zero nic now (although had a wobble at the weekend and had to use some nic) I’m determined to kick this nic dependency though

Welcome @chrisswearingen4 and I hope you enjoy your stay~!

The only advice I have is to quit COLD TURKEY because it was the only way I could and I did it with Cig-A-Likes not the gear you already have~!

Good Luck and Vape On Safely~!
Thx for the advice SteveS45. I tried the cig a likes a few years back it was a e go but it didn't work for me found that it wasn't satisfying the cravings. I wound up smoking cigs again. This time I figured I would try again and research more about vaping to help me along. I've tried the cold turkey path but the wife and kids say I'm not easy to live with going cold turkey. Lol.

Thx GardenofEdenVapors. Congrats to you as well.I'm the same the cold turkey path won't work because of wife and kids. I know that I'm more irritable going cold turkey. Haven't tried the nic salt juice yet. Using a 70/30 blend from the local vape shop now. I was smoking about 3 packs a day. I started with 3 mg nic but move to 6 mg.because of the cravings. Right now thinking of bumping up again cause it seems the 6mg isn't satisfying the cravings. I'm trying not to make my nic addiction worse but haven't found that level that satisfies the cravings yet. Thanks again for the advice.

You might should start a little higher and then work it down over a period of time. Don't want any excuses to pick up a cancer stick. Try 18 and dump the cigs cold turkey, then ween down to 3mg over a period of months. Not sure how long you smoked for but this is a pretty successful strategy.

Thx jwill might try that. I've been a smoker for 30 years. The vendor at my local vape shop let me know that should start at 3mg because 6mg gave the headaches, but that's what I'm using now and thinking of bumping up again because of the cravings.

Experiment and find what works. Cheering for you while you find your feet. I was two packs a day menthol and started 24 and worked down from there. Made stopping the cigs cold turkey a lot easier and kept me juiced on nic while transitioning.

Welcome to VU! :vino:

I dual used for 2 weeks using 18mg nic in eGo pens 4 years ago. I stayed at 18mg for almost 6 months because of my business travel. Then I went to 12, then 6, then 3, and now I'm making my DIY at 2mg. It's been over 4 years since I last lit up a smoke. You can do it!

Head over to the Builder's Corner. We'll get you making your own coils in no time.

Welcome to VU. Hang in there and up the nic, you should look into nic salts or WTA juices. Took me 5 months and dl vaping to quit. Finally decided to not buy another pack.

Thx Leticia 9. I've heard of the nic salt and looking into a good place to get them. I haven't heard of WTA juice, what type of juice is this and where do you get it.

I'd use WTA as a last resort. That stuff is almost as hard as cigs to wean yourself off, but whatever it takes to get away from burning leaves is a win! @AndriaD and @JuicyLucy have used it in the past I do believe.
I've not used them but know they have saved vaping for some. Have seen many positive testimonials on various forums.

Agreed @Letitia9. The folks from https://umbavape.com/pages/wta-the-difference also pretty much state to use WTA only if regular nicotine is not doing the job. Whatever it takes to get away from smoldering tobacco leaves is a win in my book. Here's a quote from umbavape:

"Because WTAs work so well at emulating what makes cigarettes so habit-forming, WTA e-liquid is more habit-forming in itself. Which is why we'd prefer people who have not had any problems getting off cigarettes with regular e-liquid, stick with regular USP nicotine. We're not out to get people addicted to our products, but rather we want people to have an alternative to something they are already addicted to. Ideally, WTAs should be looked at as a stepping stone in the switch from cigarettes. They do not contain the cancer-causing chemicals and tar released when a cigarette burns so the negative health effects are expected to be smaller than cigarettes and much more like any other e-liquid." Everything in bold was in bold on their website.

@chrisswearingen4 Whatever you decide we will support you 100%!

WTA works best if you can stay off tobacco for at least three days - then when you vape it, it brings that calming effect and what is sometimes described as a feeling of well being

It probably works best for folks like me - who just could not give up having a smoke or two or five because the nicotine alone did not satisfy the craving, in fact, the higher I upped my vaping Nic, the more I craved a smoke

Thx gopher_byrd, letitia9, and juicylucy for the info. You guys are great. I'll keep that in mind but think I'll keep trying with the standard juice for now and keep trying. As they say if at first you don't succeed try and try again.

I agree that WTA should not be used unless smoking has already been quit for at least a week, otherwise you'll never notice any difference between WTA and regular ejuice -- and you should ONLY use WTA if you're having such awful cravings that you're about to cave and smoke. It really is addictive, almost as addictive as cigarettes, and requires a slow gradual weaning process to get free of it without suffering the same miseries as cold-turkey cigarette quitting. It took me 15 months to wean off it, but without it, I'd never have been able to remain smoke-free.

I never noticed any particular feeling from WTA, except... NOT craving, NOT suffering. The absence of that misery was a godsend.
