Mirai, Summer Wars Director Mamoru Hosoda's Next Film Will Be 'Completely Different from Mirai'

Director and writer Mamoru Hosoda has had an impressive track record in the anime industry. He worked at Toei Animation on Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon as a key animator, directed The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars while at Madhouse, briefly served as the director of Howl's Moving Castle at Studio Ghibli, and went on to co-found his own animation studio, Studio Chizu. With another film under his belt, IGN sat down with Hosoda (with the help of a translator) to talk about his films up until now and what’s next for the director.

Many of Hosoda’s films center around childhood and growth. His latest film, Mirai, stars a four-year-old boy who has to learn how to live without being the center of attention when his parents bring home his newborn sister.
