The first trailer for the anime film adaptation of Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto's one-shot manga, Look Back, has finally been revealed.

Look Back follows the story of a fourth grader named Ayumu Fujino and her shut-in classmate, Kyomoto. Over the course of the 142-page short story, the pair become friendly artistic rivals as they share their love for creating manga. Look Back's manga was first released online in 2021 shortly after the conclusion of Chainsaw Man part one.

The film adaptation of Look Back was first announced in March. Unlike Chainsaw Man, whose first season and upcoming film adaptation of its Reze arc were animated by Studio Mappa, Look Back is being animated by Studio Durian. The film is being directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama, an anime industry veteran whose resume includes contributions to the Neon Genesis Evangelion rebuild film Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, Arrietty, and The Wind Rises. Look Back is slated to release in Japanese theaters on June 28, 2024.

Other one-shot manga from Fujiimoto created in between working on Chainsaw Man include Goodbye, Eri and Just Listen to the Song. All of these are available to read on the Shonen Jump app.

In our review of Chainsaw Man Season 1, we said "Fujimoto captures the bleak outlook many in his generation have on the world (with good reason), and Chainsaw Man constantly shows why it is necessary to have any kind of release from the cruelty of the world, even if it's just joking around like an idiot with your roommates."
