Lol, you must be a cousin too.:giggle:
Lol.

I was raised on a 255 acre farm over 15 miles from civilization. I picked up some hobbies to entertain myself. I can't live anywhere near a town or city because it drives me absolutely nuts from extreme social anxiety so I have kept some of these hobbies through my adult life.

It's funny. I have a hard time sleeping in the country. I have a messed up schedule right now but usually I can sleep pretty well. In the country the darkness and silence is too much. I need some background noise and a little bit of light to help me fall asleep.

I have to have white noise, but that's mostly because of all the idiots in my neighborhood with fenced-in dogs. Puts dogs in fences and leave them there all the time, the damn things are gonna bark... at nothing!

We have a lot of dogs sround here too. They are mostly ankle biters. My dog' Pepper is a Beagle. Her Bark/howl is unbelievable. She loves being outside She can stay out there until she starts yelling at the other dogs, which usually doesn't take long. I find her noise cute. I don't think others feel rhe same.

LOL Crickets, toads, locus, and whippoorwills aren't enough ambient noise for you? I miss when I lived on the outskirts of town the whippoorwills lullabies. Our neighborhood hawk is back so not much bird song in town either.

The noise that dogs make is why I've switched to being a cat person. Cats are (mostly) just about silent. Even their loudest fights aren't as noisy as dogs' barking. My son said we should get a Basenji, but they apparently won't get along with cats, so that's out.

Letitia -- I miss the sound of cicadas, being shut off by air conditioning... but i'd rather a) breathe, and b) be cool, than hear cicadas. :D

The Cicadas are back this year here. We have all those noises except the toads and whippoorwills. There are frogs on the golf courses but that's about it. A lot of migratory birds Winter down here . There is something soothing about the static sound of traffic. Not horns and sirens just distant traffic. I have a friend who lives in the shadow of the 5 and 91 interchange in Anaheim. When I stayed at his place I got the best night of sleep ever.lol The humidity in CA usually makes it tough to sleep but that's another story.

I had a little tuxedo cat a few years back. She was a sweet kitty once she got settled in. I had an apartment on the 6th floor and she would sit at the window and watch the birds fly by the window. We ended up giving her to my friend wghen my Wife got pregnant with our son. I miss that cat. I love my dog, bit she is a bit extra sometimes. The cat was so mellow.

I'll miss having a cat's presence in the house when Beana and Little Foot are gone but I'm not going to get anymore. After over 35y of litter box duty I'm ready to retire.

Tuxie is a really weird cat. She was an abandoned feral kitten who showed up on our carport back in 2011 just before we bought the house we live in now. Our son fell in love with her, so I had the opportunity to learn all about these newfangled 24-hr antihistamines. :D We think she must have been brutalized by someone, and definitely never really socialized as a kitten, since she runs and hides from anyone who isn't us. She also will not tolerate the new kitten we adopted in May -- again at the son's behest -- so we still have to keep them apart. The kitten is now almost 7 months old, so we're thinking that maybe by the end of the year, she'll be nearly full-sized, and we'll just let them hash it out, cat-style, so we don't have to keep them so carefully apart.

But other than that, she's pretty mellow too. The new kitten is a LOT more hyper and destructive of all our things, so it's just as well that she mostly stays in my son's room. Tuxie was never the kind of cat who loved to knock shit off tables just for the fun of it, or get into EVERYTHING; the only real foible she's exhibited is that she loves to find odd places to hide, so sometimes we have to nearly tear the house up, looking for her. But once she realizes we're looking for her, she usually comes meowing, like "WHAT??? I'm right here!" :giggle:

Well, I had to hunt up this thread; insomnia has been absolutely kicking my ass for the last 5 days or so, and IT'S PISSING ME OFF!!!!!!! :headbang: What in the FUCK do I have to do to make myself sleep, hit myself in the head with a ballpeen hammer????????

Partly it's that damned itching eczema, but not 100%; some of it is just PLAIN OL INSOMNIA! AAARRRGGHHHHHHHHHH! I managed to get to sleep by about 5:30 this morning, and made myself get up just shortly after 11, so that maybe I can sleep tonight.... so now, I'm fighting a nap with everything I've got. We have an every-other-month gig doing housework for my stepfather, and that's coming up on Saturday, so somehow I've got to get a handle on this inability to sleep, or I'm gonna be dog tired on Saturday, and me without sleep is a real ornery cuss. :D

Sorry to hear about your sleep troubles. That sounds awful. I found some relief in Advil PM. I had my first good solid 8 hours of sleep in years last week. It says it's non addictive but we'll see. I felt good for a change. Tomorrow I am back to work on graveyard... I hate my schedule.

That's just diphenhydramine, same as benadryl or sominex. I can't take that shit, except for allergy; it gives me a little "fogginess", but also makes me hyper, and that's not a comfortable combination. What I take instead of that is Dramamine, dimenhydrinate; it actually gives me the "heavy eyelids" sensation, which is a lot more helpful than just fogginess. I take 3-4 a night, which is 150-200mg. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I also take about 40mg of melatonin about an hour earlier than the dramamine -- again, sometimes useful, sometimes not. I also take a zyrtec at night, to keep from waking up with allergy, and that might increase the sleepy effect of the dramamine. Sometimes also throw in half a benadryl if I'm experiencing allergy at the time I take my pills, and that does seem to increase the dramamine's effect, and is a low enough dose of that drug that it doesn't give me the hyper effect.

When I take the later set of pills, I also make a cup of cocoa with warm milk instead of water; last night, I had 2 cups -- and made sure to hit my "dry leaf" vaporizer pretty heavily. Whether it was that 2nd cup, or (mostly) resisting a nap (I did snooze for about an hour in the afternoon, but made myself get up after that single hour), I did get to sleep by a decent time last night; went to bed about 1:45, and I don't recall anything after going to the bathroom around 2:45. I woke up fairly early, about 9, and though I had my clock set for 10:30, 30 mins earlier than the 11 I got up yesterday, I decided to go ahead and get up, and try to keep better hours all week, so that Saturday isn't such a rude shock.

Hopefully I can resist the siren lure of a nap all day today, since I feel fairly rested.

Andria

ETA: all drugs like diphenhydramine and dimenhydrinate are non-addictive, but they do have a fairly rapid build of tolerance -- hence the 3-4 pills of Dramamine. I used to take just 1 or 2, but now my body laughs at that low dosage. :giggle:

ECF refugee there Andria. Guess why...

Offering unsolicited, uninformed, IGNORANT opinions, and vomiting up spam all over threads? I reported all that spamming, dunno if it did any good, but I notice the idiot hasn't been back.

Sometimes ECF bumps people for GOOD reasons, along with those of us who were treated unfairly.

Unfortunately true, but they (ecf) seem to have relaxed a bit here lately. I see comments posted that would have brought a mod running a year ago being ignored.

Maybe the asshole mods are on vacation? There's really just 2 mods over there that are intolerable. The others seemed like fairly normal humans, except for that asinine rule about not criticizing nor even DISCUSSING the moderation. Only those with pitiful little egos can't take criticism, and censorship is the first mark of FASCISM.

I always oppose censorship in any form you want to say fuck every other word fine, you want to say Nazis where right okay good for you, you want to tell me the Indians started it great I may not agree with you or think you are a dumb ass but I will support your right to say and think it. I understand that if I use a website then I have to follow the rules set by the owner of that site, but I also have the right to think some of those rules are dumb as hell I mean the reason on ECF for some of the censorship is keep it so if kids see it or someone's work won't have a problem with the content blah blah blah, the site is for Adults, kids should not be on it, as for work if your job does not want you going to sites that have this or that then that is on you not me hell last job I had there was an email war going on about who could find the most fucked up porn (I will never ever unsee those 90-year-old, women and that cucumber)

But no matter what kind of site and who runs it you will always run into ass hats on both sides but looking above and seeing infowars.com in the siggy well that says it all to me.

Those were EXACTLY my points, that the site is for adults anyway, and if you're surfing the web when you're at work, that's YOUR problem, when your boss finds out, it shouldn't be everyone else's problem. Within my very first month there in early 2014, I was thinking how asinine it was to treat 50-yr-olds like goddamn 5 yr olds. But I needed the vape info, and didn't know any other place to find it -- I never could figure out the first thing about using Reddit, totally greek to me, and I've been online since 1989 with amateur BBSs! So I had to stick around there until I felt comfortable with my level of vape knowledge, and I made some friends along the way. But when Retarded1 got his ass on his shoulders about my use of the word "herbs" (the illicit variety is always SINGULAR!) and suspended me in Feb 2016, I said fuck you very much, and never went back. They can kiss my shiny white ass.

And BTW, having your tits smashed flat and x-rayed is a real damn good way to START breast cancer. I'll pass.

And BTW, fellow insomniacs... last night was pure and unadulterated HELL. It wasn't that I couldn't sleep.... I could have, IF THE MOTHERFUCKING LEG CRAMPS HAD LEFT ME THE FUCK ALONE! From an attempted nap yesterday afternoon interrupted by severe cramps, an hour watching Criminal Minds last night, interrupted by leg cramps, and about 6 wakings from 2am till 10:30 this morning, the goddamn leg cramps would NOT leave me alone. Because I ate a fucking banana yesterday on my fucking cereal! FUCK THAT SHIT! I'm sticking to eating just blueberries on my damn cereal! They're a super food and don't give me goddamn motherfucking leg cramps!!!!
