I plan on building mainly between 0.8 and 1.5 ohms. Should I go with 28 gauge Kanthal?

I like working with 27 gauge Kanthal.

The coils last a long time with just a tad of care.

If your a newbie start with 28 then go to 26 when you have experience use 24 and lower iv been making coils for ages now and ti be honest I find 24 to be easiest to work with less springy.

28g is good for that range, but you might run into a little trouble if anything lower than 0.8Ω is in your future (like not enough wraps).
I try to stay around 0.7-1Ω and use 27g.
