Hiring a qualified vape shop sales assistant: What should you know about this?

As business booms, many vape shop owners may feel the need for extra hands to cope with increasing customer demands. However, it could be difficult to hire a qualified sales assistant even though labor supply is ample. In this article I will try to present what is a qualified vape shop sales assistant like, the challenges vape shop owners may encounter in the hiring process and how to handle them accordingly.

What is a qualified vape shop sales assistant like
First, we need to define what is a sales assistant. A sales assistant helps create repeat business which in turn generates money for the business by assisting customers and making sure their shopping experience is enjoyable so they come back.

Second, we need to be clear what a vape shop sales assistant's job specification comprises. The following bullet points serve as a brief summary to the basic responsibilities of a sales assistant.

1. Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent sales service, including

a. Welcome and greet customers

b. Ascertain customers' needs and wants

c. Recommend and display items that match customer needs
d. Accurately describe product features and benefits

2. Actively involve in product procurement and inventory management, including

a. Maintain a fully stocked store

b. Keep up to date with product information
c. Participate in the receiving of new shipments

3. Follow all shop policies and procedures

Third, with these in mind, we can now decide what is a qualified vape shop sales assistant like.

1. He/she should be an enthusiastic vaper

2. He/she should be extroverted and warm to customers

3. He/she should be proactive when providing information and recommending products to customers
4. He/she should have certain knowledge and experience of inventory management

Challenges

One of the primary challenges that vape shop owners may encounter is the lack of enthusiasm for vaping presented by the applicants. A candidate may exhibit excellence in every other area, but the lack of enthusiasm for vaping will render his/her performance insipid and ineffectual. Imagine a zealous customer conversing with a most polite, informative, but uninterested sales assistant!

Another challenge is best understood if it be considered as the opposite pole of the above mentioned one. Some applicants may be experienced and ardent vapers, but they lack necessary trainings and skills without which a sales assistant cannot be considered qualified. Imagine a sales assistant passionately discoursing with a customer, yet he/she fails to fetch the exact items requested, nor is he/she able to report to the owner the accurate figures of revenues of the day!

There is, however, one challenge that would put most vape shop owners in great predicament, namely, over-qualification of the applicants. A candidate possessing all the above-said qualifications, and with other marketable qualities and skills, certainly will not stay as a sales assistant, if the applied vape shop does not make promises of promotion or a good pay, which most owners, constrained by the nature of their shops, are unable to guarantee. Imagine a sales assistant who resigns after one month when a better opportunity presents itself!

How to handle these challenges

The first two challenges hereto falls into the category of under-qualification, the solving of which demands certain sacrifice in one area to preserve the merit of another. I would recommend vape shop owners, upon receiving applications from under-qualified candidates, to consider favorably the ones who exhibit much passion towards vaping but lack necessary trainings and skills, the absence of which could, and should, with the right attitude, be amended through subsequent experience and useful instruction.

I recommend vape shop owners, if situation allows, not to consider hiring those who exhibit excellent sales skills but lack enthusiasm for vaping, for the reason that such candidates, without deriving joy and satisfaction from a job which requires passion, will soon succumb to spiritlessness and mediocrity, and who, with their superior trainings and skills, may request a salary higher than the shop owners are willing to pay.

I recommend vape shop owners, if not desperate for manpower, do not consider hiring those who over-qualify. There is no point to expend the precious hours to interview and instruct a candidate if he/she has decide to leave upon better opportunities which may present themselves any moment. Shop owners will also have to offer more compensation and benefits to such candidates. Lastly, that shop owners are compelled to start the whole hiring process over again when such candidates leave, is not a cost to be overlooked.

Conclusion
We have described a qualified vape shop sales assistant as such depicted in this article, and when encountering the challenges of under-qualification and over -qualification, I strongly recommend vape shop owners, with good reasons presented above, if the matter allows it, to consider favorably candidates who, though lacking certain trainings and skills, exhibit passion for vaping, as opposed to the other two sorts.

b. Ascertain customers' needs and wants

As in not sell a set up to someone, that is beyond their new user comprehension, just to make a buck
