im in a similar spot. my chuck clamp ripped in half a while ago, my raymo clamps are stuck at the border/customs, and im almost out of wire. the only build i have done in the last couple weeks is a plain staple. cant wait to see what you come up with using that ribbon wire  post some builds so i can live vicariously through you until my stuff arrives :D

5 core aliens are gonna be my first build, I’m gonna be rusty been a while since I’ve done aliens ...hell might even give em a polish and prove you can polish a turd

You've got to be feeling like a kid at Christmas!

I've been eyeing their 2*26/36 fused Clapton's. Just might be the next spooled wire I try.

my clamps arrived today! i got a highly anticipated vape mail via normal mail service this morning, i set it up and went out for the day. i guess a parcel delivery came later with my clamps in it, and roomie just left them on the table and also went out. i just found them now (10pm)...now i am frantic trying to figure out wtf to do with them. i feel like i have to build something for my new mod right now :bliss:

i got a lot of thinking to do now...i am running low on most of my favorite wires, and the mod is a quad parallel setup, which i have never built for. im using a regular parallel build on it now (that i moved from another atty), but i feel like i should make something specifically for this mod. off to consult the oracles of the wirewizard on mt steamengine for inspiration, and place a tribute to the building gods....

Helps to keep it greasy. The importance of sufficient lube cannot be overstated. PS-in a pinch, spit works too:bingo:

I REALLY like Kidney Puncher Wire, so I ordered KP. NiCr80 0.3mm and 0.5mm, and some Kanthal 0.4mm. They were out of NiCr80 0.4mm lol. Lotta cores/low resistance in a framed staple so that Kanthal will come in handy though.

I have some SS316L premaid that turns purplish when dry fired to hot. I never knew if that was good/bad or unimportant. Do you know what the consensus is about it?

Your coils look really good I think.

I Was going to order from KP, but they don't ship to {redacted} because they think we can't buy anything vape related. We do have an unenforceable law about inter-state tobacco products, that includes anything with nicotine, not any hardware. I didn't want to uhhh, lie, so I just didn't order... :( I might email them and ask about it.

I think the consensus is just don't overdo the heating, if your coils turn light grey-blue and look fuzzy/flaky/ashy, that's overdoing it. Purplish is fine. I can taste some yuck if I don't heat SS at least to gold/purple. And thanks man :)

I don’t use ss wire myself, but it seems that some thermally induced coloring is absolutely to be expected. Shouldn’t have any effect other than to make your coils pretty for a minute :)

It would be nice if everybody could get on the same page as far as retailers are concerned. Some states have become simply stupid in generating ineffective nonsense legislation, and its got to be a shipping nightmare for them, but damn a little consistency would be nice.

Probs worth an email to KP customer service though. It is mighty fine wire...

I have a Black VV Pyro in the mail too, I have a clone SS Pyro that was good enough to get an authentic

And 500ft of 30 awg wire, it should work just as well as my stretched out 28 frames I Hope

I would think that for frames, the 30 is gonna seem pretty similar to well-stretched 28. At >0.4mm ribbon I’d guess you’re def in the ballpark.

are you talking about those tiny coilheads? i might have to get you to show me how to do that at some point.

yeah 40 is hard to deal with. everything you do has to be more gentle and much smaller (angle adjustments and stuff). when you get the hang of it, it makes everything else feel easier by comparison.

get it hotter. i think you have to glow kd until its very hot to get colors out of it...

great fuckin work btw. i dunno how many dead ribbon stacks you have in your trash can, but it took me about 5 tries before i ever got one that would clapton and coil up

I was verrrrry careful, been thinking it through in my head for a week now...so no dead ribbon stacks. I was stumped on the stacking because I cut 8 pieces, so couldnt fold...VG was magic though

I tried to go overboard on the glowing, trying to get it blue, but didn't want to melt anything haha - I got some dark streaks from the hot spots... I'll keep trying, maybe not with this staple though, don't want to break it, it's pretty :D

The IC coil is super easy to do, just a crappy airflow system to start with so they get gunked fast. Drilling out the wick holes a lot has helped but mannnn tiny coils lol

yeah just make a set of fused claptons to practice coloring the kd. i have never used it but i remember when it becaome popular in the builds thread, a couple guys were talking about pulsing it at nuclear levels to get it to color...beautiful pastels. it might be harder with such small gauges so i suggest trying to make a foot or two of basic fused clapton and just try to color one coil at a time to get a feel for how hot it has to be.
