Hey everyone, the other day i finally put filled my nautilus with my vader puddin from maple leaf vapes. I got a 120ml 8 mg customised to 70 vg 30 pg. It was bod 12/11/2014, when i recieved it on dec 15 all it smelled like was alcohol. So it's been steeping pretty well a month now, and man is it ever tasty. Oh btw its a vanilla custard. But i've noticed im getting what i assume is "dry hits", like on the exhale i feel it in throat what i think is dryness, as vg gives zero throat hit at all as far as i know, & its only 8mg. Which is to low, im used to 12mg. So ive been chain vaping taking 4 5 6 hits in a row. Im guessing theres nothing i can do? Ive heard about putting airflow closed or cover with finger & take few unpowered hauls to get the coil saturated. Sucks because im in love with vg now. Much smoother and satisfying vape over the harsh 70 pg crap. Ive just never experienced a dry hit so im curious if this is it

What you're describing doesn't sound like a "dry hit." A dry hit would mean no vapor is coming out at all and you'd probably taste burnt flavor. Personally I find VG rather harsh myself. It reacts differently to different people so it could be that your assumption that there wouldn't be any throat hit with your higher VG level just isn't proving true for you.

Check your coil to make sure you didn't accidentally burn it.

It really seems like a dry hit, maybe not to the extent it normally is but it only happends usually if im chain vaping. I thought maybe it just wasnt getting enough juice in coil because when i close airflow and take few unpowered hauls then open again its fine. Its a 5 ml nautilus with bvc, wide open airflow. I dont see what else it could be then juice not wicking fast enough as its not due to nic throat hit. Juice isnt expired lol. I mentioned it was made dec 11th. Coil is only 3 days old.

Maybe you just need to slow it down a bit then.

Sounds like with that fairly high VG mix you're vaping too fast for it to wick efficiently. I vape 50/50 generally, so I don't have this problem in those tanks.

This same exact thing happens to me. I have my kfl+ built at like .8 - I really should've went 1.8 - anyways when it's on my dna 30 if I vape it over and over at about the 5th or 6th vape I get a dry hit.
I just think the way you're describing it is a bit off lol... I still get vapor but it tastes burnt/funky.
I just take a few vapes without actually hitting the button and then it's all good. Well actually I now just vape on it slowly and if I want something hard hitting I grab something else.

The juice I have in it is probably 86% vg or around there I forget what I made. What's weird though is depending on the build sometimes it performs better on a mech - I don't get it.

Yeh i was'nt sure what a dry hit was exactly. Its deffinetly not a dry hit because its not burnt or taste bad and getting no vapor. When it happends it still tastes great, and still good vapor production. Im still getting used to vg having no throat hit at all.

I still get a throat hit. I vape 12 - 14mgs but I drip. If I'm using a kayfun or for some reason I use my Aerotank I won't feel a darn thing.
I make my juice specifically at 14mgs so I do get a throat hit. I know some people who drip don't want one and like it smooth but i need to feel it.

I use max vg. I also use juice with menthol. The menthol doesn't affect taste, but does provide a cool throat hit. I feel the menthol in my throat, lungs and sinuses and taste the flavor in my mouth. Works very well. Mint is different. I taste mint and don't really like it, but menthol does just what I want.

I've found using thick juice in my Kayfun requires a larger diameter coil than normal to achieve proper wicking. I use 28g wrapped around a 7/64" drill bit. When I switched to max vg the 5/64" coils couldn't keep up with wicking the thick stuff. Going slightly bigger worked perfectly.

FWIW:

- Nicotine tastes peppery. At high dosage, especially in a dripper, it stings pretty bad and can make you cough. But it still stings like breathing in pepper would.

- Acrolein (which is what dry-hits really are) at low dosage tastes of burnt something. Usually it's mixed with the taste of burnt cotton, or overheated silica, depending on your favorite wicking material.

- Acrolein at high dosage is almost as unbearable as taking a sniff of pure ammonia. It'll burn your throat, your nose, makes your eyes water, and you'll gasp for air. No mistaking it for nicotine.

- Pure VG (glycerin) is perfectly odorless and tasteless if you're used to it, or has a faint rancid butter/caramel taste if you're not. It provides zero throat hit. In fact, nothing could have less throat hit than glycerin. If your particular VG feels of something, it's almost certainly laced with something.

- Pure PG has no taste or smell, but provides a lot of throat hit. It can be quite irritant and make you cough.

- Flavors... well, what's in them is quite a mystery, unfortunately. All you can be fairly sure of is that diacetyl (cookie, buttery, baked goods, and some poorly made nuts flavors) can make your lungs feel heavy and uncomfortable, and all acidic flavors (lemon, orange...) and malic acid (sour) can irritate your throat or lungs after a while.
