Good bye Chicago B&M's. You now have to charge an extra $17 dollars per 30ml bottle.

New tax is .55 cent per ml and an additional .80 cents per unit.

And if true to form per past nonsense with Chicago politicians, a big chunk of that money will end up in the pockets of Proco Joe Moreno!

Rahm Emanual is a true socialist dirtbag. They are to fucking $$$ greedy to realize that attracting business is the way to increase tax revenue and get out of debt. They are too busy purchasing votes with the tax revenue they already have.

It says "liquid nicotine products." So: No nicotine: No tax, right?

By the end of the year the majority of vape shops in Chicago will have moved just far enough to get out of the city and continue business, or go out of business. One of the two.

Regardless of party, Chicago has a tradition of corrupt politicians for hundreds of years. Why should things be different now that in the tech-age than they were then?

It's cool, Chicago. Your citizens are coming to my city in droves.

You might want to rethink that. (Hint: Whom do you suppose voted for the people who pass the laws in Chicago?)

Jim

I think the Chicago political system works hard to ensure that even the good ones come around to the CCP, the Chicago Corruption Party.

Does not surprise me Chicago is in a desperate situation they have even sold roads and highways to the Chinese to make a buck. This country is falling fast could it be maybe leadership.

I wouldn't say "regardless of party", The fact is, Democrats have dominated Chicago politics since 1930
I would say communists and fascists.

20 years ago it was a toilet bowl of corruption, I remember hearing some of the stuff about some corruption thing on the radio.. sounded like a gaggle of barely solo functioning retards then... now I shiver at the level of fucking stupid that has infected that hell hole.
Funny the weekends downtown were BARREN.

This may be so but the way it is written I would think unflavored nicotine would fall under the tax. On the other hand it can't be consumed directly at higher levels as a finished product. This is very poorly written. I see some court cases coming.

That's why Illinois has two governors in prison now trying to fill there pockets to fast. It looks like the third one is pushing his luck.

That is just for Chicago though.. Since most shops that thrive are in the subburbs and not in "Chicago" it really will not affect them unless each subburb follows Chicagos lead which they may!

I should have said "Cook County", which is quite a large area effected by this tax. Just did a quick count on yelp, and there seems to be 30 or so vape shops in cook county. I know if I owned one, I'd be liquidating everything right now and leave town to set up elsewhere. Like you said, people will just drive to the burbs to make purchases.

Yeah, pretty sure all of cook county http://blog.casaa.org/2015/10/cook-co-il-oppose-e-cigarette-taxes-in.html
except they changed it from .20 cents a ml to .55cents, plus an .80cents per unit. Then you have 10.5% sales tax on top of that.

Maybe it was just the City that added the extra .35cents on top of the .20cents and the .80cents per unit. But still, @.20cents is adding 6 dollars on to the cost of a 30ml bottle, premium or not.

$43 dollars for a 30ml bottle of Premium-X e-juice.. yee haa! Good Job Chicago

School teachers, the ones that are educating your kids to be good little Nazi's. I don't think I've met a more militant bunch of idiots in my life, than Chicago school teachers.

If that offends anyone within this forum. Let me say it now, so I don't waste my time responding to any future comments. Go f*** yourself with a pogo stick.

Holy hell!!! Language people, language. How in the hell are they going to enforce this? This is a tax on the CUSTOMER, not the merchant. While I'm sure the bill has the merchant collecting the tax on any juice sold in their establishment. What happens if you can't produce a receipt if you're asked to prove you've paid the tax on the juice you're vaping? Will they now be monitoring online purchases then sending you a bill for the taxes?

Words have meaning.

Chicago, known for their logical government....whatever. Keep in mind this is the city that bans guns but is always among the national leaders in murders with guns. I assume some rich government idiots got together in their posh conference room, looked at a few photos of ecigs on a projector and breathlessly agreed with each other on how "scary" they looked and how unhealthy they must be. "These look scary and are WORSE than cigarettes, comrades. I don't like them one bit and, therefore, no one in Chicago will use them. WE HAVE SPOKEN!"

Once the taxes start up, and it will happen across the land, eliquid vendors won't be charging $25 for something that cost them $0.06 to make.

Not that I agree with taxes but I often wonder why vapers don't feel taken advantage of by eliquid vendors who are making a huge profit off vapers, yet they complain bitterly about a tax.

To me, both are just as bad as the other. It's called getting fleeced.

I never begrudged anybody making a "typical" retail profit , which is usually about double your cost. But eliquid? It's marked up about 200-800%. That's a bit much IMHO?

.06 cents is a little exaggerated but get your point. Juice makers have a right to make a profit, large or small. Free market. Governments shouldn't have the right to indiscriminately tax the shit out of something without honest representation.

There are many juice businesses out there selling juices at 25 to 30 bucks for 120ml, many who can afford 22 bucks for a 30ml bottle, and many who DIY. People come in all sizes.

It's going to be interesting to see where this goes with other cities nearby, and if other states might be looking to follow in their footsteps.

All states see is $$$$
not a way to get the people of off stinkysticks or a way to get more jobs and small businesses open.

Can you see the door slamming shut in the distance? Between the FDA and massive taxes, the Golden Days of vaping are almost out of sight. I am glad I got started when we could easily assemble almost any kind of setup imaginable at a pretty reasonable price. The increased cost alone will help some smokers justify staying on the cancer sticks.

I've noticed that people will find excuses for not doing just about anything they are not committed to doing.

In my travels to turn smokers on to vaping, I've heard them all.

This will just add to the arsenal.

The truth is that if somebody truly wants to quit smoking, they will do whatever it takes. That was true before vaping hit the scene, and it will be true in the future.

I totally disagree. I tried to quite smoking for 40 years, and I was only succcessful once I discovered vaping.

I agree with the excuses not to vape the 3 i always here is, well its just not the same. Duh if it was the same why would you want to switch. The 2nd being, well i just want to quit for real..... ya know? To that i say how long have you been trying to quit and hows it working also you would be quiting bc its not the same. Third is, but I heard there worse than smokeing. If they say that i just give up bc obviously this person will believe anything and forms an opinion with no research.

The Courier from the College of Dupage just posted an article yesterday titled "Vaping Under Fire." Here's a portion. I bolded the holy-crap part.

Cook County’s Board of Commissioners passed a 20-cent per milliliter sin tax on e-liquids containing nicotine, which starts on Jan. 1, 2016.

The City of Chicago already had a 55-cent per milliliter sin tax on e-liquids with nicotine before this recent increase, and now puts the city’s tax up to 75-cents per milliliter. As seen in the chart below, this puts the City of Chicago sin tax on e-liquids higher than the Illinois cigarette sin tax of 36 percent of the base price and 9.8-cents per cigarette.

This also puts the sin tax over 100 percent on both 30 ml and 120 ml bottles in Chicago. Based on prices from the popular online e-liquid retailers “Direct Vapor”, “VaporDNA” and “Viper Vape”, a 30 ml bottle is about $20. On top of the 10.25 percent sales tax in Chicago, the price would arrive at $44.50. That is about a 123 percent tax on the product.

With 120 ml bottles, based on pricing from online retailers “Kick-Ass E-Juice” and “Seduce Juice,” the average price is about $25.50. With sales and sin tax added, that’s $118.11. That is about a 363 percent tax.

Perspective: 30 milliliters is one ounce. If you take that estimate in bold as gospel, that's $5,696 per gallon.

Some are just looking for an excuse. Funny how so many quit with eGo setups, now most seemingly can't stop smoking with less than 50 watts...
