Can't Taste Liquid for Over a Year (Not Vaper's Tongue)

Hi,

Can someone please assist? I woke up one morning 13 months ago with a dry mouth, and cannot taste much ever since (can taste up to 30% on a good day). I've tried every remedy you can find (except leaving vaping entirely). I am 31 years old and have a type of arthritis. Could this be contributing to the problem? I can smell perfectly fine as well - doc says there doesn't seem to be any problem with my sinuses

Can you taste food and drink okay?

Sounds like medical thing then. Some meds will affect your ability to taste. Good luck tracking down a solution.

Thank you very much. I am not on any meds though. Is it possible that a PG allergy could have this effect?

Anything is possible but this sounds medical. Have you had any head injuries? I used to box and there were times after getting my bell rung would lose sense of taste and/or smell for some time.

First you must rule out any Medical Problems but you could maybe try a strong Tobacco Flavor as when I get hit with the vapors tongue I can still taste a Tobacco Blend. Good Luck

I've had a neck/back injury a long time ago. I don't think that had anything to do with it because it wasn't that severe, and this was many years ago. I am vaping for 2 years now. The first year I had no issues and its for the past year (13 months) that I've been experiencing this problem

Thanks. I am able to taste flavours generally but only around 10-30% (30% on a rare good day like yesterday - this only lasted for a few hours)

Sounds like it might be related to the old injuries. Every few years my nerve damage will affect me in some odd place. Sometimes it goes away and sometimes I'm stuck with it.

Many flavorings will kill my sense of taste. For everything.
Some artificial ingredient in them.
And why I was forced to go 100% DIY shortly after starting vaping over 3 years ago.

You might try some natural flavorings? worked for me
And a few non natural flavorings work for me such as CAP Vanilla Custard V1.

If your issue is similar to mine it takes a few days to get taste back after vaping the offending flavorings.

I also recommend medical attention though.

hi, google just took me here because i am having the same issue.
i wanted to check up on u, and see if every thing is ok now؟
i need to communicate with people with the same issue as many as i can, so we can share experience with that, we may solve this out.

first Welcome to VU
second this post is quite old so the best suggestion if it is not a vapers tongue is see your GP and or a nerve specialist to rule out your body and mind first.

There are a few tricks you can use to help this problem.
Vapers Tongue has a name so it has to be less rare than we think.

Your best bet would be to go on youtube and search for "Vapers Tongue" and see what the reviewers on youtube use when they are reviewing eliquid and devices.

Helps if you mention if you are using commercial or diy juices.

More information, please, @bander88.

Is this something that just manifested itself recently? Is all taste affected, or only vaping? With me it was mainly vaping that was affected and, even then, I was still able to "taste" the more in-your-face juices.

I had the same problem, recently. It mostly cleared up on its own, roughly coincident with my sinuses clearing up--I suspect as a result of the Flonase™ generic nasal spray and Allegra™ generic antihistamines I'd started using about a week before.

Yep. Some of my nerve issue stuff makes me go wonky too.

To the OP: Like others I'd suggest seeing a doc.
