So you are a new coil builder! Welcome to the club. Great hobby and very distracting if you are trying to quit smoking. LOL.. You can't concentrate on wrapping a coil and think about smoking at the same time.

I have a video sticky on 4 basic coil builds for new builders. Here is what they do.

Simple basic coil. A straight single strand coil.
Easy to build. Gives very good cloud production with some flavor.

Basic single core clapton.
Easy to build *not as easy as the basic coil*. Gives good clouds and greatly improved flavor over single coil.

Simple parallel build. Lower resistance, More surface area for better clouds. Flavor slightly better than single coil.

Dual core fused clapton. This is a parallel core (same as above) wrapped with a much thinner wire (clapton) which traps more ejuice for best flavor of the 4. This is 1 step below coil porn. Fairly easy to build and produces large clouds and big flavor. Basically, this "go to" build will be all most vapers will need. Much cheaper than paying $14.00 for a pair of zippered, fused alien coils and yet.. the flavor is almost as good as even the most coil pornographic coil ever made.

Of course there are fancier coils for those flavor chasing fanatics, but for the average new vaper, these 4 are all you really need.

Next.. what wire do you use to wrap the claptons? Kanthal and Nichrome are easy to use but slower to transfer heat to the ejuice. Stainless steel is slightly stiffer to wrap with, oxidizes a bit faster (you need to change coils a bit more often) but... it transfers heat from the core wires almost instantly, for that burst of flavor right away. Basically, it is your choice. For best flavor, SS is the way to go. For longer coil life.. kanthal or nichrome.

Cool post. This should be helpful for people just starting to build.

The part at the end about SS heating faster than nichrome is wrong. Nichrome has a lower specific heat than SS therefore it heats quicker and also transfers that heat quicker.

I thought I should also chime in that all the stuff about flavor is totally subjective. When I first started building I skipped right over plain round wire builds and went right into coil porn builds. After about 6 months of building on a regular basis and trying new coils almost daily, I decided to give a parallel round wire build a shot.

The performance that I got from the basic build was so much better than what I was getting from the complex builds I had been using for the last several months. Aliens, staggered fused claptons, corrugated ssfc's, fraliens, and a bunch of others. Not to say that these coils aren't great, because they are, but now that I have moved back to basic builds I see that Clapton type builds don't really make the vape taste any better.

I know that a lot of people swear by flavor builds such as aliens and ssfc's. If someone gets better flavor from those coils, good. Whatever helps them stay off smokes. I just wanted to share that because flavor really is subjective and what one person likes another may not. There is no coil that tastes better than another, only peoples' subjective opinions.

Here's were I need to chime in. I honestly think that Claptons don't make the flavor better but it allows the initial flavor rush longer. I don't know how to explain it, I think is so subjective. But for me

The aliens I'm building taste better even longer than fused Claptons and honestly just a cunt hair better flavor.
