Hi All, Anthony Vapes back here with my review of the Hugsvape Surge Pod Kit, please see the bottom for disclaimers and links. Note this is not marked as a sample version.

Introduction:
The Hugsvape Surge Pod is the first Pod Kit from Hugsvape. They are a new company that has been making some good products this year. The lotus RTA, theseus RDA, and chalice MTL RTA were all good devices to me so, so far they are doing well. I also have a sub ohm tank and squonk mod and RDA in my queue from them as well so they have been making quite a bit of products lately. The Surge is a flat style AIO Pod system like a zero, motiv 2 or innokin EQ with a built in 600mah battery and is inhale to fire. It’s available in 6 colors Black, White, Pink, Red, Yellow, and Baby Blue and is available online around 20 USD so pretty cheap price point

Kit Rundown
The Hugsvape Surge is a flat short style AIO (all in one) Pod kit, meaning there isn’t a separate mod or tank that can be used with anything else. It does have replaceable pods so you can carry spares. It’s a medium size kind of similar to the Wismec Motiv 2 and innokin EQ, but not quite as small as a zero or ceto and is very easy to pocket and carry around. There is no adjustable air on this device which would have been cool but not a big deal as most this style don’t have adjustable air. It’s a loose MTL vape. It has a crazy large capacity of 6 ml. The battery is listed at 600mah so good size battery as well for a pod system. It features built in USB charging but they don’t list an amp limit. It does not have passthrough vaping however which is odd as it should like most pods. The drip tip is proprietary and part of the pod and is a nice oval shape but symmetrical so you can hold it either way and vape on it and works well and is comfy to use. The Surge is very nicely build and feels solid with no rattle and the coloring is beautiful on the white one i have with a matte finish. It’s very light as the body is made of plastic.

The Pod itself is easy to fill. It comes with an empty pod and the coils are built into the pod like the Wismec Motiv 2 or rincoe Ceto. The pods are magnetic but the magnets are a bit weak so it doesn't really snap into place and can be wiggled around quite a bit. Stronger magnets would have been better. To fill them it uses a standard rubber plug you remove to fill and the fill hole is large enough to use with a fine tip bottle easily. The pods have 2 options. There is a dark tinted one that’s hard to see juice level and a clear one that is easy to see. I much prefer the clear one personally. There is also a cutout as well on the battery so juice level is very easy to see with the clear pod but very hard with the tinted one.

Usage is pretty easy. There is no buttons or settings on the device. It’s a simple inhale to fire and that’s all. No adjustments and no way to turn off. There is an LED that shines into the pod to let you know battery life. It’s hard to see on the dark one but very nice and easy to see on the clear pod however being so close to your mouth when it’s lit means you have to try and look at it to see your charge. It should have stayed lit for an additional second or 2 so you can see the color after you stop vaping easily. Green means 3.7V or more, Purple means 3.4-3.7 and Red means 3.3-3.4V. It’s a direct output device and the cut off is 3.3V. I can’t speak much on how well the auto draw works however over time since i barely got to use it due to the coils which i’ll go over in the next section.

Coil Performance and details
The Hugsvape Surge Pod comes with 2 pods which is great. Both are the same 1 ohm resistance pods with a massive 6ml capacity. The only difference is one is tinted and one is clear. As i’ve said a million times before in my pod reviews, i prefer the clear so glad there is both options. All pods should be clear IMO or at least very lightly tinted. Performance though is where it all went south for me. I barely got to use the device because i filled up both pods (so wasted 12ml of juice) and let them prime and both instantly burned out on me. The coils are just too small for the output. You can see in the pics in the album the burnt coil and how the pod is still full. They needed more mass and higher resistance on these coils. The ones they designed just don’t work and can’t handle the output of the battery. I’m not sure how that passed QC from them. Overall poorly designed pods that instantly burn out. No complaints from me there. I used all 50/50 nic salt juices 20 mg nicotine.

Pros:
  • color options (6 total)
  • great 6ml capacity pods
  • easily removable pods
  • good build quality on battery
  • nice looks and paint job
  • small size for easy portability
  • good battery size for such a small device (600mah)
  • price point (under 20 USD)
  • good battery meter
  • clear pod is easy to see juice level
  • comes with 2 pods
  • easy to refill
Cons:
  • tinted pod is hard to see juice level
  • Can’t judge inhale to fire since barely got to use it
  • coil life
  • coil performance
  • no Passthrough Vaping
Conclusion
So with all that said, do I recommend this POD AIO or not? I don’t like to do a hard yes or no, but this one is an easy no for me. Another case of bad coils making the pod unusable. I can’t even really judge the performance of the device itself due to the pods instantly dying. I’d just stay away from this one personally. Hopefully if they make a V2 they do better with the pods because i do like the capacity and the clear pod. I won’t be adding this to my spreadsheet of recs which is linked below.

This is Anthony Vapes just keeping it honest, hopefully you all can say the same and i’ll catch you on my next review.

I’ve been doing vape reviews since late 2016 and have done around 200 reviews to date. I enjoy helping vapers on forums as well and helping contribute to the great vape community. I’m not an “out of the box” reviewer. I do my best to be thorough at all times and have enough experience with many products to tell what’s good and what’s not. All mods get tested with an oscilloscope and stress tested and results are posted in my reviews.
